Dollhouse
« on: March 18, 2009, 10:19:14 PM »
is anyone watching this shit?

I recently caught up on the first five episodes and i wondering what other people think.

personally I'm pretty into it, even though a show featuring the most annoying actor from buffy and the most annoying actor from battlestar seemed like it would be really bad.

but i was pleasantly surprised, nothing is really stand out amazing yet but it's thoroughly entertaining. apparently the 6th episode (guest starring patton oswalt!!!) really kicks the season into high gear so i'm really excited for that. some of Joss Whedons stuff tends to drag at first so i'm hoping that it will really go somewhere exciting and awesome.

On paper, Dollhouse shouldn't work.  It is positively addictive though.  I really enjoyed Joss Whedon's Firefly as well.

Also enjoying it, and really excited for the actor playing Alpha to show his face. I'm a big fan of his. But yes, The Dush is not my favorite.
He's this soulless bastard from Siberia. I once saw him shove Fred Savage's face in a toilet.

I don't like it much.  But I'll stick it out because I can't imagine it's going to continue to be this unremarkable with Whedon at the helm.  Every now and then there's a little flash of him, and you can see what the series could be like.  So far, though, it's pretty drab and pretty exploitive.  And Eliza is painful.

All in all, I'd way rather that the very short-lived Drive had been allowed to continue.

Kings now . . .

I am watching it and its okay. Supposedly it kicks into high gear at episode 6 (and apparently Patton is on that one?). I think its a good-ish show so far but there are enough lame things about it that if it doesn't deliver in the next few I will be done with it.
Dushku is fine when she is acting, but when she gets into her persona of a "tough girl" (what I imagine she is like in real life), it is just the worst ever.

I like it. Actually, I don't like it, but I'm into it.
I read that about the next episode too, so I'm holding out. It seems like it gets better every week, so I think that's a good sign. I hate the character of Topher...although I guess he's supposed to be annoying. And Eliza Dushku is doing a decent job of playing different characters--and she really has the blank robot face down.
The doctor with the face scars is a cutie. But ten to one she gets with Topher. Was she ever on Buffy? I feel like I've seen her before.

If I'm not mistaken, the first 5 episodes were not written by Joss Whedon, and Fox chose to show them in a different order than Joss wanted.  Firefly, anyone?  I wonder if the quality of the show will improve when they got to the Whedon-penned eps?

I'm pretty sure the pilot episode was written by Joss Whedon. It was the second pilot after Fox wanted a clearer start to the series.

I told a couple people last week, "I'll probably get into it sometime after it's canceled."  And, you know, available in a ridiculous deluxe Blu-Ray package for the dozen or so people actually interested.

I really like Joss Whedon, and most of his work, but it feels like he's always just a little bit out of step with the times.  It's hard to imagine him ever having a hit, unfortunately.

I think it's starting out pretty slow, but I still like it a lot.  I loved the episode called "The Target," where the outdoorsman hunts Echo.

I'm hoping that Echo eventually becomes totally self-aware, even in her "tabula rosa" state, and begins to fight the dollhouse corporation from the inside.

Whatever.  Joss Whedon rules.  Firefly needs to come back.

I think Topher is the only comedic relief in the show.  So I like him.  Actually, maybe that's what Dollhouse is lacking.  Buffy was so much more comedic than Dollhouse so far, which is kind of why I want Echo to become self aware and team up with Boyd and then make, like, "man-reaction" jokes.

Hey,
Patton Oswalt was on tonight!  Of course, he was really good, that voice...
I admit to having been a huge Buffy/Angel fan, so I have to stick with Dollhouse, although I found last week's cult invasion episode unwatchable.
