Suggestion for Best Show theme song
« on: January 11, 2012, 11:09:55 AM »
For your consideration Mr. Scharpling, sticking with AC/DC...instead of the long "Live Wire" how about  IF YOU WANT BLOOD YOU GOT IT.  Talk about a fightin' song!  It also calls out all who want a tussle...those miscreant journalists, podcasters, and trolls who call in.  It's a minute and a 1/2 shorter and it moves right along.  I think the lyrics reflect the Best Show fightin' spirit...

If You Want Blood (You Got It) - AC/DC (Lyrics)

Vandalism! Sick vandalism! When I get my hands on the little punks I'm gonna hang them by their Buster Browns!

Here's an idea. Each week, pick one Lou Reed song at random, and pick one Metallica song at random, and play them at the same time.

A bevy of themes by Angry Anderson and Rose Tattoo.

Consider this- a defiant anthem of ultimate triumph:

A warning to all not to underestimate you or the show. This is an obscure gem. It could be ALL yours.

I held off on calling the show with this suggestion.
It's likely too tounge in cheek and unable to be stomached for multiple weeks.

But a week ago, my wife and I were laughing about the use of the Dropkick Murphy's song ,
"I'm Shipping up to Boston" in 'The Departed'.

It has the punch in the face quality you were speaking of.
But it is also pretty ridiculous.

Maybe more in line with the Mike Show.

But Tom, 'I LOST MY LEG'.

I'd like to suggest Minor Threat's Seeing Red.  It would kick off the show in that rowdy, rampageous way you're looking for, and in just sixty-three seconds.  I prefer the first demo tape version, it's screamier.

I'm new to the forum, but a habitual listener.  Thanks for the great show this week.

The more I think about this, the more I think that some version of "Good Guys Don't Wear White" would be the perfect Best Show theme song. It's a perfect Joe Lunchpail anthem that avoids any hint of gurgy classic rock-ism (not that there's anything wrong with glurgy classic rock).

The original Standells version might be a little bit to droopy:
The Standells - Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White

But the Minor Threat version kicks ass, and would be a funny counterpoint to Rollins covering the Pink Fairies:
Minor Threat - Good Guys (Don't Wear White)

I am assuming Superchunk is off the table? too bad... I think Precision Auto would be a great start to the show.

I had to break my three-year lurking status to post a possible theme song.

Wake Up! by Les Savy Fav

http://cellfortyfour.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/04-wake-up.mp3

It starts sparsely, but still powerfully, and really picks up around the 50 second mark. And the last minute is especially "punch you in the throat" intense.

Also while the lyrics can be kind of murky, they can easily be seen as a warning or a call to action.

This seems like a good choice.

Lyrically I have no idea what it means, but the energy of this has Tom written all over it

Blue Oyster Cult - The Red And The Black (with lyrics)

This too. Right Omar?

King's X - The World Around Me

Or this. And lyrically it makes more sense. You could even jettison the Peter Gunn intro of it was too long, but dear GOD don't jettison the Peter Gunn intro

Cheap Trick - On Top of the World

Or this?

Jellyfish-Joining a Fan Club

Or this version

Puffy AmiYumi - Joining A Fanclub

Sorry, I guess, wanted to share some tunes.

Elton John - I'm Still Standing
"You know it's like, if you had a choice between 4 slobs dressed as lumberjacks and 4 shirtless good looking guys in tight black jeans and high-top leather sneakers, who would you choose?"
