The lyrics don't seem very apropos, but they're hard to hear anyway, and dig that title:

The Like Young - "Snobs and Slobs"
I am over hope and change. I want hope and a motherfucking chainsaw.

I stand by my original suggestion of "Wake Up" by the Replacements

Shakin' Street by MC5..  good riff and New Jersey reference..

Shakin' Street - MC5

Shakin Street - MC5
live version is more energetic but this is poor quality.

See, I like that song--but didn't Tom just talk the other week about the MC5 becoming lame after the first album?

My suggestion for Best Show Theme 2012: Nazareth's "I'm Not Fakin' It".

1. Learn about history
2. Get pumped up
3. Re-iteration and exhortations about NOT FAKIN' IT!

Nazareth - No Faking It

Less that they became lame and more that they had lameness thrust upon them.  The REALLY good version of Shakin' Street is the mostly acoustic version on Babes in Arms (and it would be an excellent Best Show theme song).  The alternative versions and mixes on that comp (which is on ROIR) turned me me around on that band -- they didn't get worse, they just got the worst treatment from record labels and producers ever.

So I guess I'm alone in thinking that Kick Out the Jams is by far the worst of the 3 MC5 LPs?
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

If you insist on that "by far", then yeah, I don't agree -- it's a close call between Kick and Back in the suckstakes.  Only High Time is really good, but that ROIR comp is the one to have if you're having only one.

I like Back in the USA, but I think that's more because I like the bands that I see as having been influenced by its sound and energy (Radio Birdman is a big one). In terms of songwriting, I don't think it can be argued that Back in the USA is a better album that Kick Out the Jams.

As for KOTJ, it could've been their best album but it's marred by poor song selection. Minus I Want You Right Now, side two is a zero. Here's the tracklisting for my dream alternate version:

Side One
1. Kick Out the Jams
2. Come Together
3. Rocket Reducer No. 62
4. I Want You Right Now

Side Two
1. Black To Comm

Mind you, this would have to be a really hot recording of Black To Comm from the same shows that the album came from. If such a recording exists, I don't know about it. Black To Comm is great but every version I've ever heard sounds like garbage.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

Nah, I agree. Give me Back in the USA over all that silly "brothers and sisters!" nonsense any day of the week.

My pick is:

Led Zeppelin: Wearing and Tearing

others:
Lee Harvey Oswald Band's cover of "Junior's Farm"
Circle Jerks: When the S. Hit's the Fan
Queen: Keep Yourself Alive
Les Fleur De Lys: Hold On
Soggy: Waiting For the War
The Nubs: Job
The Nils: Fountains
The Fleshtones: I Was a Teenage Zombie
Personal and the Pizzas: Brass Knuckles...though maybe save that one for the Gorch to cover.
