Title: Washington DC 7/10 - Unrest
Post by: Barry Egan on May 13, 2010, 01:29:46 PM
Per this thread (http://www.friendsoftom.com/forum/index.php/topic,6895.0.html), there's a DC gathering going down on July 11th for the Unrest reunion show in DC. Six or seven seem to be in so far.

Oh, man, I really hope you and Mr. Erika can come ... that would be the bestest!

Yeah I just have to see because we're hosting a pretty big party the night before and Mr. Erika's back is still kind of funky so we'll play it by ear. But I need a meet-up! :)

How would the FoTs identify each other? I say we all wear trash bags with arm holes cut into them.

Not gonna be able to make the DC show... rats.  DC/VA area people should take a gander at the PFT RVA facebook page that's gaining slight momentum. I hope it's not the only time we see each other, but it will be a good one.

Scrambled again, Yes/No

All the mp3s are still on my hard drive but playlists/podcasts are deleted.  Portions of records remain, the rest: no longer in iTunes.

I know how to reconstruct it.  But, man, what a pain in the neck.

This is the fifth or sixth time it has happened.

I don't know what to tell you.  I've had the same iTunes library across multiple Macs since 2003, so it is possible.  I even have the "date added" and all that kind of metadata intact.  Sometimes I accidentally delete a song or a playlist, because I don't pay attention to what's highlighted.  Just keep backups and you should be able to recover.  Also, remember that iTunes keeps two library files, one XML and one data.  You can always regenerate the data from the XML.  The idea is that XML is a "standard" and it's written to when iTunes closes.  But the data is the working file.  If you launch iTunes when the XML is present but the data isn't, it'll regenerate the data file.  Sometimes this fixes things.

I wonder what Mark Robinson has to say about this.  I'll be sure to ask him at Washington DC 7/10 - Unrest.

I lost a bunch of tunes, but still had them on my iPod. So I got the senuti program to transfer from the device. Tech savvy people can probably pull this off for free, but I went ahead and paid the $18 for the program. Worth it to save 20,000+ songs.

I recommend we meet at Founding Farmer's before the show.

Founding Farmers or a suitable alternative closer to the club would be fine.

Whatever you guys think is best - a big draw for Founding Fathers for me was the strong Veggie menu. If something else also fits the bill, I'd vote for that too ...

There's a circulator bus from right near FF to the club. But the only reason I picked that place is that I've been wanting to eat there.  Multitasking.  But I really don't know what's in the U Street area that's good.

If something closer to the venue is needed, Busboys and Poets is nice, but often busy.  There's some decent veggie food at the Black Cat itself.

Am really hoping it cools down as I'm putting up two out-of-towners in an AC-free room.  So if someone else wants to offer them more hospitable conditions, that'd be awesome.

And did youse guys hear? Stephen in Chicago is also coming down for the show! I don't know if he and his GF are the 2 who are sleeping in that hot room of yours. Now I'm all super excited to multiple powers of ten.

I msg'ed him on the facebook in case he's not aware of the gatherings we have brewing.

I think Founding Farmers is a good idea.  I don't know any place on U St that would be particularly good for groups.

re a friend of mine:

Quote

Unrest at Maxwell's in Hoboken was among the top three best shows I've ever seen (which begs for a list, I'm realizing). They are the rare exception of a band who actually sounds better live than on record.

A little advice - bring cash because they have the best merch table you'll ever see, and everything costs about half of what it is through Teenbeat directly. Buy before the band plays. Afterward everyone's mind is blown by the concert, and they swarm for souvenirs.

I'm going! Purchase those tickets, why don't you?

Afterward, we'll pop over to the Dischord House. I heard tell there's a backlog of lyrics sheets to fold and stuff for the new split Nation of Egg Hunt/Marginal Manager 7 inch, and MacKaye put out the batsignal.

I'm still in for Mulaney if Barry won't butch up and go get an eye patch.

I'm moving to Silver Spring tomorrow so the Drafthouse is likely out for me. That's also partly why I can't put anybody up (that, plus my houseguests don't seem to like it when I get up and tickle them at night)

Please wear an eyepatch.

I wanted an eyepatch  but they said the warmth and moisture is bad for the ulcers.  However if it worsens and I need surgery then I WILL get an eyepatch.  So fingers crossed.

But yes, I'll suck it up and go to these events, so steel yourself - I look kinda scary and am well-medicated.

Many thanks to yesno for securing me a ticket AND putting up WKghost/Icepants.

Ok, do people want to meet at 7 or so at Founding Farmers?  Or more like 8?  The show "starts" at 9, which means opening acts, who are all probably pretty good.  Also early = better access to merch table.

Did you guys get that email that said:

The doors/start time for the The Unrest show at Black Cat on July 10, 2010 for which you have purchased tickets has been changed from 9:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Please be aware of this change and thank you for continuing to be a loyal customer.

Makes sense ... how many bands are playing? 4 or 5?

oh, I thought I remembered them pushing it back from 8.

In the absence of hearing from anyone, I am suggesting we meet at Founding Farmer's at 7.  Since we all have tickets, showing up at exactly 8 for a concert could probably lead to a lot of standing around, and at the same time even showing up at 9 or 10 would probably still count as "early."

At least, my wife Susie and I (in person I respond better to "John" than "yesno") will be there then.  I believe I know what Auntie Christina and Chris L look like through Internet osmosis.  Maybe I will be wearing a GG Allin or WFMU-related T Shirt.

I will text the out-of-town FOTs will this information, as they may not be checking this thread.

Top-flight evening.  Lots of old and new FOT faces and some exceptional music.
The restaurant we chose smelled like an Amtrak restroom, but my falafel was delicious and the company was pleasant.

Could you please post or send me the photo Susie took?

Also, I can't stop thinking about what band would be fatheaded enough for each of it's members to release a solo album like KISS did.

I cannot come up with a band I'd like to see do this.

I don't have time to update any fancy galleries or facebooks or anything, but I put those two FOT group photos online. They came out blurry in the dark.
