Title: YouTube Hall of Fame
Post by: Dorvid Barnas on January 16, 2008, 02:21:12 AM
I'm guiltier than most of over-posting on this board, especially in that epic YouTube thread.

A thread I'd love to see is one where each of us picks only one piece of online media to share.
I hope this can be a sincere thread, that each of you posts the one thing you feel everyone should see before they die; something that truly floored you.

My choice is this Michael Jeter performance from the 1990 Tony Awards.

I'm as wary of musical theater as as the next guy, but this is amazing. Nevermind that he was a hero and pioneer in his personal life, Michael Jeter (right) was truly one of the greats. For those of you who only know him from The Fisher King and Evening Shade, check this shit out and tell me I'm wrong.  I'll fight you.

Syd Barrett - Jugband Blues

A promotional video that turned out to be [one of?] Syd's last appearances with the band.  Recently re-discovered.  Dripping with LSD abuse.

Michael Jeter (1952-2003) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Jeter)

I never realized how much Bebe Neuwirth looks like a tall and sultry Dennis Kucinich.

And you're saying that Kucinich is not sultry? For shame.

Always happy to see Jeter (the face I see when I hear Dave From Knoxville), but said to hear he died. Damn you, 2003!

You just made me chuckle out loud at length.  The sad thing, though, is that Bebe Neuwirth is only 5' 4" tall.

Or have I once again missed part of a joke?

I know this is in the Youtube general thread but it's the best Youtube clip I've seen by a wide margin.

I can't embed this because the Church of Scientology had YouTube yank it, but in case you haven't already seen it 12 times, here's a link to the incredibly creepy Tom Cruise video, courtesy of Defamer:

I'm going with this clip of the late, great Australian band God doing their classic "My Pal", because it's the most recent youtube-based tune that gave me chills. These kids were the Australian equivalent of Squirrel Bait.

Our Bollywood Disco Funk Party was entirely inspired by this video, so it's my pick.

"Traditional dance," my foot.  But his toes sure did twinkle.

Some pretty virulent comments, though.  Yuck.

Squirrel bait is the US equivalent of the hot Australian band, Spiderbait...

I fear I may never fully understand how or why this happened.

I miss the sports era of the late 70's and the 80's.

Does that make sense?

Yes! Bad sports songs are sorely missing from the contemporary landscape. Where's the "Icky Shuffle" when you need it? There was a terrible song for the Rutgers football team last year but, alas, no video created for this glorious monstrosity.
