...I don't there's a chance that Tom waits until 2015.  If for nothing else...

Deep cut.

Points? Is this like a VISA card system?

on the show @midnight the host says "Points!" whenever a contestant says something funny.

The theory that this is the dark time is interesting. Tom hates @Midnight. He has also mentioned that the unfunny half wits will be destroyed upon the Best Show's return. Maybe this is supposed to be what it's like when the anti-Best Show people rule.

On a typical night, one might argue that things are at their darkest "@ midnite"...

I've noticed that he's been really active on Facebook recently.  I think that this is the Dark Period.  We have evidence supporting why there would be anything on his Twitter--which was needed because he said the account would "go dark".  And now we have evidence that he is doing things on other forms of social media that he's not doing on twitter.

If the unfunny and halfwits rule, and if the catchphrase of these gremlins is "POINTS", Tom could still be advancing the darkness of his account by adopting their ways.  Perhaps "darkness" isn't, like, total absence of communication.  Rather, perhaps it's the Dark Ages of Comedy, which is completely fucking embodied by @Midnight.  That's it.  We are in the dark ages and Tom will be our fucking Charlemagne, reuniting the Best Show Empire and trampling underfoot the head  of the snake of snoozey, nap-wave comedy.

A Twitter user asked Tom if we are in "the dark period" that he previously spoke of. His answer was, of course, "Points!!!!"

I think this could be great news. Everything on this thread from the past week is getting me excited!

Yeah, I had my doubts if "darkness" meant inactivity too. It seemed to cause FOTs to think if Tom didn't tweet for one day that meant it was happening, only to be disappointed when he'd post a tweet. Let's face it, Tom's tweets are pretty amazing, especially when he's calling out bullshit as he sees it.

I'm pretty sure he means he plans to play bass for The Darkness for a few years.

Alright.  Here's what we've got so far:

1) The last non-POINTS!!!!! tweet was 9/9

2) On 9/8 Tom said that the account would "go dark"

3) In responding to whether we were in the Dark Period, Tom responded POINTS!!!!!!!!

4) The 14th anniversary of the Best Show is on 10/10 (WFMU doesn't have the first two archived)

5) Which is almost exactly a month away from the 9/9 tweet.

So, my guess is that the show comes back the week after 10/10.  I also suppose we'll hear about it at least a week in advance.

Also, Mike reported that he worked on something new for the show that should be out the first week of November and that Tom has a studio (possibly with parking for Mike). CHIKU:

Also on 8/15 Tom tweeted "it's gonna go like this: at some point this account goes dark. Then the announcement comes. Then IT IS TIME TO FUCK SHIT UP. #BestShow2014"

We also know that Tom's friend and collaborator Chris Gethard may or may not be ending his public accesss show. We'll be finding out on the 24th. If Geth shows up on MNN, the show continues. If he's not on your NYC TVs or the webstream, TCGS is over.

Gethard tweeted this on 8/14:
Quote
I've spent enough time licking my wounds and I'm now officially out for revenge." - unironic line in an email i just sent to @scharpling

I'm a college student heavily involved with my campus' radio station. We subscribe to CMJ which does an annual festival/conference. One of the events/panels is this:

Quote
Tom Scharpling In Conversation with Chris Gethard
Tom Scharpling is a comedian, television writer, producer and radio host. Though perhaps known best as the host of WFMU’s The Best Show, which began in 2000 and aired its final program in December of last year, Scharpling has also directed videos for New Pornographers, Ted Leo, Aimee Mann, Ben Gibbard, Titus Andronicus and Wild Flag. Scharpling, who joins CMJ as one of the most prominent and distinguished figures in modern music commentary, will be placed in conversation with Chris Gethard. Gethard, comedian, actor, writer and host of The Chris Gethard Show will join Tom for what promises to be a memorable collaboration.

No date/time has been announced however CMJ happens October 21-25.

I don't know if Gethard will be involved with the next iteration with the Best Show however we're all itching for more Tom so even if this ISN'T RELATED to TBS, it's good info to know.

I will say this much--I think it's impossible that Tom does this without having a Best Show announcement to coincide with the interview OR the Best Show is already back, and it'll be used as a promotional tool.  I have a strong intuition that it's the latter.

Tom hasn't done any podcast/public forum since the Best Show went off the air.  I'm sure he's had more than enough opportunities to help CG promo stuff in recent months.  If it was just a favor to CG, I feel like it would've already happened.  I mean, wouldn't it make more sense, if this was just to promote CG, to do it when the pilot was being filmed?  Or when CG filmed his comedy central special?  And if it was just to keep Tom's name in the public's mind, wouldn't he have just done another episode of the Marc and Tom show?  All pure speculation, but I think it's well-founded.

"At some "POINTS!!!" this account goes dark." Only Tom could make this transition/waiting perio so funny. Everyone (including myself) focused on the darkness part when it was the word point that was the clue. That's genius. So eventually one of these "Points!!!!" will lead to announcements!! Very exciting!
