Title: Disproven/Alternate "Slaw Dog" origin ideas
Post by: rpm1200 on April 23, 2016, 09:11:23 AM
Hi everybody,

Now that the "Slaw Dog" epic is over (download the HHOP here if you haven't heard the conclusion yet (http://thebestshow.libsyn.com/the-half-hour-of-power-episode-25-0) - spoilers below!) let's share some of the ideas we had that ended up not being right. Or maybe people have some "alternate reality" ideas better than what really happened.

Here was what I thought going into this week's HHOP. Since we knew the football coach added "Dog" to "Slaw", and Jason played defense, but "Dog" did not refer to the phrase "dogging it", I thought that maybe the coach was using another meaning of the verb "to dog". As in, to stick to another player tenaciously would be to "dog" that player. And since Jason wasn't the best at football, maybe the coach yelled out something like "Come on, Slaw, you've got to dog him!"

Of course this theory was knocked out almost immediately when Jason said it had nothing to do with gameplay.

I thought that maybe during practice on a hot day, the coach saw Jason looking exhausted, possibly with his tongue sticking out, and said he was panting like a dog.

I kept thinking it had to do with some kind of code they'd use in a no huddle offense, like if a player was supposed to do this or that maneuver they'd tag their name with Dog.  So if Tom's calling the shots and AP Mike, Pat and Slaw were in the play he'd yell out: "MikeDog, SlawDog, HUT!"

The bit about his coach accepting the "I'm failing math" excuse was the best tag on that story.  So hillarious.

Cheers to SlawDude!!
