The more movies I watch the more I realize that directors make the same movies over and over and over and over...
But I still want to see this one.
-
I'm very excited about this. (but still a little disappointed that we've got Owen and not Luke...)
-
Adrian Brody drives a yellow hummer. My friend saw it. She heckled him.
-
After watching this trailer, I'd like to propose "Enough Already!" as a show topic
-
Mozart and Puccini--to name but two--also wrote the same thing over and over again. I think many great artists come up with only one new thing--or maybe just a small improvement/adjustment of an existing thing--in all their lives. Most of us won't come close to even that.

I love Wes Anderson. This trailer didn't excite me that much - the poster (http://img118.imageshack.us/img118/6636/darjeeling2yy2.jpg) did, though. (Also, I'm with Sarah.)
I'm seeing this in a couple of weeks - surprised to see it doesn't open in America until the end of September.

Agreed, although Hal Ashby made a wide varitey of films. So does Todd Haynes today, to name but two.
-
When is Whit Stillman making a new movie?
Maybe I'm one of about 5 people in the world who likes em both but prefers Whit (at least the first two) to Wes.

yeah but sometimes enough is enough. People like Tim Burton for example, really don't need to keep making movies. I dont mind Wes Anderson now, but if he's doing the same thing in like 10 years - with little to no ingenuity, I will think less of him.

Agreed. Of course, Tim Burton is no Puccini.

Again, agreed. And, of course, Wes Anderson is no Mozart.

Mozart... wrote the same thing over and over again.
I agree with your larger point but vehemently disagree with this example. I'd elaborate but I'm getting tired just thinking about it.
I will say that even Wes Anderson's bad films are beautifully shot, edited, and scored.
Also that there's nothing wrong with being a one-note if it's a good one.
That said, Owen Wilson and Jason Schwartzman need to call it a day.

well, we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

Rushmore is one of my favorite movies ever, but at this point I just wish he'd open up his own line at Urban Outfitters and stop carping about dysfunctional family dynamics already. He can put out some "curated" CD's on the side. Just skip the filmmaking. It's just an excuse for precious Criterion DVD packaging and eccentric costuming choices anyway.
-
My brother has a Rushmore crest tattooed onto his leg with "I SAVED LATIN" in a scripty font below.
Also, Adrien Brody looks like Jarvis with the glasses and the suit. Hello, Mr. Brody. You may kiss me.
-
I'll watch this movie, most likely in the theater, but I have to agree with J. Junk on this one.

Only the last two are directly about dysfunctional family dynamics right? I really don't want him to skip film making since three of his four movies are on my all-time favorite list. I just want him to avoid becoming Tim Burton predictable.

I'm glad you didn't bother to tire yourself out by elaborating, Dorvid, since I pulled that name out of the air mainly so Puccini wouldn't be lonely. Just wanted to make that larger point.

Mr. Anderson made a universe for himself and now goes around exploring it.
Why not?
There's plenty of genre-hopping directors who suck it (go see Sunshine for a good example of another Danny Boyle total piece of shit, or follow the degradation of Nicholas Roeg (everything post Bad Timing)).
I don't mind giving Mr. Anderson a few hours of my life every few years for another slice of a universe that part of me wouldn't mind living in.
Although I would like for him to do a sci-fi/spy movie and a monster movie.

"How can you lose a train? It's on tracks!"
I'm getting THAT tattooed on my leg... in a scripty font.

I know that is a little negative and I am sorry. I just think Brody is overrated. watch him in The Village and tell me he doesn't blow.
-
But he's got a great nose.
-
Also, I find him attractive. This is all that matters.

did you see the pianist or liberty heights?
he was even good in the horror that was the film "King Kong"
-
He really was excellent in "The Pianist," and that was directed by kiddy-fiddler Polanski.
-
If only it were just "fiddling," alas.
-
Well, "rape" is implied.

Okay I will see the pianist and get back to you.
-
This guy needs to get back to making those Nightmare on Elm Street movies

Why not put this here?
The answer, apparently, is now.

Preferring Whit Stillman to Wes Anderson can't be that rare.
I'm not a big fan of Wes Anderson's shift into making movies about luggage and wallpaper instead of movies about people, but I do think he might eventually do something good again.
