Dear Tom-
I know you don't need more ideas but I feel compelled to share mine. I say this humbly and
as a fan that's been listening to the show for about 7 months, called twice. The best
stuff. I really and truly hope you aren't getting bored or tired of it. I did an afternoon mix
shift on community station WFHB in Bloomington, IN for two years before I moved out to Boulder.
I got so burned out after about a year and a half. So I understand your frustration as of late
with callers, etc. I hope this week off helps.
My humble suggestion for a topic:
You may call and answer any topic from a previous show. State the topic and answer.
I'm listening to the "What emotion affects you from a TV, book, or commercial that only
you would be affected by" show. Great topic. "If you are disenfranchised, truly disenfranchised, please call and
tell why you're disenfranchised." "Who do you think should dial it down a notch?" So many great ones.
I think there is a certain warmth lost as
of late that makes me feel like you're not really having fun doing the show. Myself and little
Timmy-shanks can only hope that's not true.

I had a topic idea today. Lots of people talk about the things they want to do before they die, and most of the things that they list sound awful to me - which naturally leads to the topic, "What is something that you have never done, and feel prepared to go your entire life without doing?"
For me there are many, the top of the list including mountain climbing, riding a mechanical bull, swimming with dolphins, and driving across America, and having a baby.

I must disagree; Tom has sounded as loose and playful in the past few weeks as I've ever heard him.

Agree with you, but you were responding to a post from August 2007.

Now now. There's no need to throw an analrapist back at me.

Are you the guy at WFHB who only let me have one CD as a premium then I was supposed to get 2? Because I'm still kind of sore about that.

I don't think he's gonna answer, Steve.
-
Probably not. Shortly after he left the station, IIRC. He's avoiding me, I think.

Listening to that show now - so good! I love that Tom's example is the snake scene of Pee Wee's Big Adventure. I always laugh really hard at that part, it's so funny to think about the deeper sort of meaning of it, that he was so giving he was willing to face his biggest fear to save the snakes.
I have one for that topic! - it's from that Burt Reynolds movie with the little kid, called "Cop and 1/2" from 1993. I was 10 or so when I saw it. So Burt Reynolds is a cranky, lonely cop who takes in this little boy, for witness protection or whatever - and there's a scene where Burt wakes up and the boy isn't there so he freaks out and runs outside, and finds the boy walking back with a box of donuts, and Burt starts screaming at the kid for leaving the house without telling him, and the boy throws the donuts on the ground and is like "Fine, I don't want to stay with you anyway!" or something. I teared up every time I saw that scene (saw the movie multiple times for some reason) because the boy was so thoughtful to get donuts for Burt so he'd have them when he woke up, and he just threw them on the ground, I don't know why but it broke my little 10-year-old heart!
