Following on the awesome thread --
My vote is a tie between Ziggy and D'Angelo Barksdale.

You might have a winner with Ziggy.
I saw a guy who looked exactly like D'Angelo yesterday on the subway. I guess it would've been the actor who plays him, though, since D'Angelo's dead.

(Sorry--couldn't resist.)

Ziggy rules!

Or: the guy who kept roughing up Bubs last season when he was just trying to sell some nice undershirts.
-
Yikes. That facial growth on Ziggy.
-
I'm with you Omar why hating on Ziggy. I've got friends like or should said had friends like that.

I think you just answered your own question there, Bruce.

Although Ziggy was the worst, he's a bit too obvious of a choice. I'm going with Cutty.

I guess Cutty and Ziggy share the same fatal flaw -- waiting for them to fail makes the watching hurt, but I can't stop loving Cutty because I hear Marvin Gaye singing "Mercy Mercy Me" everytime he shows up on the screen.

I love that guy he's so evil, he always steals the scenes he's in (for me anyway)

Fuck I have to stop looking at these topics. Goddamnit!!

It's hard to pick a least favorite because even the folks I hate (Herc & Valchek, for example) are still well-done characters. I guess I'd probably have to pick Dalonda Bryce, Namond's mother. Not only is she hateful, but she's pretty narrowly drawn and not very interesting.
-
I'm almost done watching season 2 and Valcheck gets my vote for least favorite.

Yes. The worst. The absolute worst.

I wanna see this guy get punched, preferably by some of the homeless people he's exploiting.

He seemed a little too unrealistic for me.

Valchek may be one of my favorites, actually. He is a blast to watch. As is Rawls. I seem to be pulled toward the more malevolent jerks on the show.
-
I agree, I think Valchek is awesome. I probably wouldn't think so if he was a real person I had to deal with, but I find something kind of funny about him, especially when he lets loose with gems like "Who gives a hairy ass-fuck?"
-
Most people are just naming intentionally unlikeable characters, but if you wanna talk about weakly constructed ones, look no further than the female population of the show. I love The Wire dearly, but it is ultimately just not that interested in women. The big exception for most of the show's run was Kima, but she's really been pushed to the background lately (and the attempts to explore her personal life always struck me as awkward and half-assed). Aside from her, the female characters are all pretty marginal.
And yes, Valcheck is awesome. Thanks for reminding me about that "hairy-ass fuck" line. Gold!

What?? How can you hate Cutty??
You're cold, Bobo.
C-O-L-D.

I can't quite pinpoint why exactly I dislike him. His character just seems really one-dimensional to me. There are other "fuck-ups" on the show who I enjoy for different reasons: Bubbles because he's tragic, Herc because he's a clown, Ziggy because he's INFURIATING, but Cutty doesn't prompt any emotion in me at all.
It might just be the actor that plays him that's the problem for me. He's just kind of flat in his performance.

Too weird:
Amazing!
I just watched "Michael Clayton" and noticed both The Greek and Tony Gray.
-
Lance Reddick's Cadillac commercial is pretty weird. Seems like the director just told "Play Daniels."

Tom McCarthy(Scott Templeton) and Neal Huff (Chief of Staff Steintorf) were also in Michael Clayton. McCarthy was the lawyer on Clayton's cellphone outside of the poker game, and Huff was one of the associates.
I thought that was a fantastic movie.

One could get the impression that you've watched it three times in the last week.
WORST:

Tom McCarthy(Scott Templeton)
For those who weren't aware, he also wrote and directed The Station Agent.

I was watching Oz episode 25 and they brought the new prisoners in. I was surprised to see Daniels and Herc as two of the three. Herc had hair.
I think everyone who was ever a guest star on Homicide or Oz got a starring role in the Wire.
-
Hell I'm watching Law & Order Criminal Intent and there is Carver with a beard and mustache

I also remember seeing Carver, Bodie and Avon Barkdale on Oz. There were probably others, too - I can't remember right now.

Lester showed up in a Dashiki in the very next episode. Bodie was a star for a few seasons. Carver played the son of a former guard (and also showed up in a Dashiki). And I see that Reg E. Cathey (Carcetti's assistant) is in the next one.
No McNulty or Bunk yet. But the all-Law and Order guest run has continued, too.
-
Don't blink or you miss him Herc was in the Miami Vice movie
-
I heard that Herc was an original "Jerky Boy".
No. Not really.
But it makes sense in my universe. Spread the word. Assist the universe in expanding. I am gonna miss "The Wire" universe. I think "Breaking Bad" and "Mad Men" can only take me so far. Weep-Wah.
-
Also almost the entire "people of color" supporting cast from Dexter is in Oz now: LaGuerta is a major character, Doakes has been in 3 or 4 episodes and Batista has joined as the new Latino gang leader.

He's a serial killer, but he only kills other serial killers!

After this season, I'm inclined to go with this guy
