Title: VAMPIRE WEEKEND
Post by: Laurie on October 10, 2007, 10:23:12 PM
Who can get me into the Vampire Weekend party? I'm trying a fellow who knows the owner of Cake Shop, and we'll see if that pans out. He's in London now, though, but he just updated his blog, SO MAYBE HE WILL GET ME IN GODDAMNIT I DON'T KNOW OR CARE WHO THE SPECIAL GUEST IS. I just want to see Vampire Weekend because it appeals to my little rich girl sensibilities.

Nope.

p.s. - anyone who is "In London" right now is a douche.

Oh, shut up. He has an art show.

Every painting was sold before his plane even hit the ground and it officially opened. Oh snap.

Why don't you just get Daddykins to pull the Concorde out of mothballs and ask this guy in person?

You've got some classy friends, Laurie (or should I say 'Anonymouse'?).

Did Warped Tour '98 throw up all over this guy or what?

Anyone who does a painting for each page of a Thomas Pynchon novel is a douche.

Anyone who does a painting for each page of a Thomas Pynchon novel is a totally awesome guy.

Fixed.

I was just kidding, by the way, I don't really have an opinion, though I tend to agree with Bobo about the hair.

Im curently in a club owned by the Starlight Mints getting ready to watch Vampire Weekend with 25 other people.

also, this place is my favorite.  they have three 6'x6' pictures on one wall.  the pictures are individual headshots of their three cats.

also, I love concerts, but man oh man do I hate concert-goers.

I know, aren't they great? Too bad they're in Steve from Boerum Hill's hate pit! They have fun with the preppy, privileged white guy thing, though I'm pretty sure Rostam Batmanglij is not white. He looks really nice in an oxford shirt and scarf, though! Also, Ezra Koenig is most likely Jewish or at least half-Jewish like me, so he's not exactly a WASP either. Either way, they're fun and put on a really great show and also pronounce Louis Vuitton correctly!

The Cake Shop thing was just a rumor, but they did play an in store at Other Music. Other Music were kind enough to provide free coffee, bagels, muffins and assorted baked goods for those standing in line. They even saved your place in line for you! Also, Peter of Peter, Bjorn, and John and Demetri Martin were in attendance, as was a hungover girl who spilled hot coffee on my shoes. How nice of them to play a show literally hours before they left for a European tour!

No way.  You were in a club owned by just TWO members of the Starlight Mints. And at least one of those cats belongs Suzy & Wampus from Forward Foods.  Drop that Norman indie rock trivia in front of me, HA!

What was that thing about snapping?

(P.S. Andy, when are we having the Norman FOT super-cool people party?  We can move from James Garner to Opolis and back again!  Are you going to the Dinosaur Jr. show at the Conservatory?  Because it's pretty much going to be great.)

A man of my importance can't be expected to fact check all of his posts.

If I'm in town, I'll definitely be at the Dinosaur Jr. Show.  I went to Vegas to see them back when they first started touring again, but I missed them when they were at Cain's.

Did the Jay Reatard show at the Conservatory get cancelled?  If not, I'm sad that I missed that one.

We need a FOT street team in Norman.  We could totally get some shirts made.

damn it I think I missed Peter Bjorn and John, also.

Good news is that Band of Horses is coming to Meacham Auditorium Feb 1st and I've got a buddy who is a higher up at the Union who has agreed to sneak me in even though I'm not a student any more.

Oh CaptainPizzaMonster, nepotism is wrong. Even though I try to use my personal connections for my own benefit, you really shouldn't.*

*Oh, ok. Just this once.

it's not nepotism.  he's not my family member.

More importantly right now is, how do I get one of these sweet posters for the Dinosaur Jr. Show?

Jay Reatard was fucking awesome and not at all canceled, though only like 30 people came out.

The last time I went to a Dinosaur Jr show I got kneed (knee'ed?) in the eye.  This time will be better, I'm sure.

Is there word that you have to be a student to attend the Band of Horses show? I've never been to a show there where they checked, or didn't sell tickets to non-students.  Do you know who is putting it on?

Also, Andy, you may be able to get one of the posters either at the Conservatory that night or at Size Records next door.  Dustin at Size takes care of the Conservatory posters, so you should call and talk to him.  He can let you know the actual information, instead of my pseudo-info.

It's worth checking out Awesome Color,
