Why didn't I know about this?
-
It's because you were busy birthing babies, Jason!
-
Nice to see PFT lead the list and Mirman have a respectable ranking, but the Sklar Bros.? That they rank at all discredits the whole list.
-
The fact that their CD is on AST's label is probably part of the reason.
-

Whew!
That was simple, wasn't it?
-
The fact that their CD is on AST's label is probably part of the reason.
...and that most of them post on the forums. It's like a top friends list.
-
Cuz they're not funny people at all, right?
Poop on you, you party poopers! Jeez.
-
Good thread.
-
I was just saying....it's tough to take the list seriously when most of the people on that list are part of the community that came up with it. I think most of them are really funny and I suppose that they should get extra props anyway for participating in such a forum.
-
Boo-urns.
-
Boom!
I had a feeling they'd crack the top five this time. Congrats!
I say Todd Barry deserves a MUCH higher ranking, though. And where the eff are Benjamin and/or Glaser?
Otherwise, a fine list of funny folks. Yay comedy.

With all due respect to Jouster et al, AST has become hard to stomach. It's too heavily populated with unfunny bullies pumped up on cyber muscles, which are even worse than ones made out of beer.
-
When WERE you able to stomach AST, Forrest? I'm not trying to be mean, but it seems like you had a problem with the board from the day you signed up...
More to the point, though, is that Tim and Eric are awesome! What a fun song!!! I love them guys :)

Erika, I'm not going to go down an AST-style bile-filled road here. I didn't have a problem with AST 'the day I signed up' but rather the day I became another recipient of arbitrary and mean-spirited attacks. I have tried to stick it out, to remain the nice person I believe I am in the face of it all, and yes, it has been fruitless. There are some cool people over there, and I would count you as one of those cool people, but for some reason there are a lot of amateur insult comics too, and they give the whole site a bit of a junior high feel to me.

I'm not really sure I know what you mean. Yes, there are arguments and pettiness on AST, but I can't think of many cases of bullying? I'm open to criticism of AST if it's thoughtful and reasoned (trust me, I don't love the site unreservedly). Feel free to share.

I should clarify that there is nothing wrong with the site itself. It's really just a few bad apples that leave a sour taste in my mouth. I would be happy to point out some of the most egregious examples, but in the interest of eschewing all personal attacks, I would prefer to do that away from the board.
-
I loved Tim and Eric's song. And wasn't it a thrill hearing them sing "Scharpling and Wurster"--and linger there?
-

That's why God (Jouster) gave us the ignore function.
Use it wisely and all of your troubles will disappear.
-
Was it me or did T & E not acknowledge the Sklar Bros.? Good move!

"Skylar"

oops.
-
It is an awesome song. Great job.
-
I just made my first unnecessarily hostile post on AST. It was exhilirating.
-
Bravo!
Look! Eugene Mirman responds:

It's ON.

This hostility bums me out man

See---hostility is awesome as long as it's, you know, funny.

I get it.

Notes & Analysis
Paul F. Tompkins already held a dominant lead coming into the Poll and seems to only be gaining momentum. He widened his lead on second place and has now ranked first in each of the last four polls. He becomes the first four-time winner of the AST Poll.
93 ballots were submitted, up from 84 for AST Poll #7.
Top-ranked Paul F. Tompkins appeared on 79 of the 93 ballots (nearly 85 percent!). Next highest was second-ranked Patton Oswalt with 53/93, followed by third-ranked Zach Galifianakis with 46/93.
160 different people/groups received votes, 20 more than the last AST Top 20 Poll six months ago.
Big Movers
Andy Daly catapulted into the Top 4 after ranking tied for 20th six months ago.
Human Giant leaped from the unranked into the Top 10 at #8.
Jimmy Pardo broke back into the top 5, regaining the fifth spot he occupied one year ago.
For the first time in the history of the AST Poll, Louis CK did not rank among the Top 5, slipping to #6.
Tim & Eric's theory that they "could've done better" last time proved correct, but only by a little, as they ascended one spot to #9.
David Cross fell outside the Top 20 for the first time in the four-year history of the Poll.
Jon Glaser re-entered the Top 20 at #18.
Mike Birbiglia cracked the Top 20 for the first time at #20.
Thanks to everyone who voted and congratulations to Paul F. Tompkins!
(See you again in October.)
:)

I was only one of four to vote Scharpling and Wurster #1?
For shame, comedy fans.
On the plus side - Leggero!

Well, in fairness, Scharpling himself has described himself as a member of the Comedy House of Representatives while Paul F is a Comedy Senator. PFT was my #1.
Seeing the list makes me remember that I forgot to put Kristen Schaal on my list.
Matt Braunger! (I saw him recently at Pianos and he totally killed it after 3 straight comedians had had very tough sets)
-
I hope Scharpling and Wurster are working on a "Fuck you, Tim and Eric, for being number nine" video.

Yeah I can't wait to see if there are any other video responses this year :)
That was the best!
