Can anyone help me with this?
For the last week, whenever I try to log into my Hotmail account, the URL box starts bouncing around from address to address, before the screen finally settles on this:
Windows Live ID is unavailable from this site for one of the following reasons:
This site may be experiencing a problem.
The site may not be a member of Windows Live ID.
It doesn't even give me a chance to log in!
If I reboot or clear my cache I can usually get back into Hotmail and log in. But this is madness! Madness I tell you!
What can I do to stop this stupidity?

I don't know how to fix the problem with Hotmail specifically, but if you have a gmail account you can set it so you get your Hotmail mail in the gmail inbox and even send it as the hotmail address. This prevents even going to the Hotmail site.

What can I do to stop this stupidity?
Get a gmail account.

Tom -- try a different internet browser. Maybe hotmail made an update that your current browser doesn't like. (I'm assuming you're having trouble on your mac...)
You also might try adjusting your security settings for whatever browser you're using. Maybe they're too high... or maybe you're not set up to accept cookies from hotmail. Sometimes if you've done a browser update (which can often happen behind the scenes without you even being aware of it) it can increase your security settings to the point where some sites don't work the way they used to.

As a mac user I've never had a problem with hotmail with any of the browsers I've used Camino, Firefox, and Safari. So I don't think its a browser problem.

why the holy hell would anyone still be using hotmail?
get a yahoo or gmail account.

Hey, be nice to The Kid! Hotmail is good for when you need to put in an e-mail address for airline tickets and other crap that guarantees that you'll be spammed for a LONG time to come.
Tom, they've been trying to switch over to a new service in the past couple of weeks; once you get in, you'll notice that they've changed the layout to show you fewer messages in the hopes that you'll sign up for a paid account. Also, if you don't login once a month with Hotmail, they threaten to close your account. You can try to Sign In through MSN.com and then jump to Hotmail from there.

I've been having this same problem too over the last couple days. Hotmail can be so great, and at other times, so frustrating. I usually just switch from Safari to Firefox OR quit the browser. I know you've probably tried that, but it works fer me. Also, since I updated it (it can hold 10GB!!) I haven't been able to send email to certain people or attach things properly, which is a great feature in an email account...

As you knew would happen, Tom, no answers. Only an idiot would have trouble figuring THIS one out! ... Now if you will excuse me, I will keep the answer to myself... But not because I don't know, of course, *ahem*... Okay, the truth is, I have no idea, either. There, I made you read a totally useless and unhelpful post.
