PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - Philadelphia is home to the least attractive people in the United States, a survey of visitors and residents showed on Friday.
The city of more than 1.5 million people was also found to be among the least stylish, least active, least friendly and least worldly, according to the "America's Favourite Cities" survey by Travel & Leisure magazine and CNN Headline News.
About 60,000 people responded to the online survey -- at www.travelandleisure.com -- which ranked 25 cities in categories including shopping, food, culture, and cityscape, said Amy Farley, senior editor at the magazine.
For unattractiveness, Philadelphia just beat out Washington DC and Dallas/Fort Worth for the bottom spot. Miami and San Diego are home to the most attractive people, the poll found.
But Farley pointed out the results don't mean people in Philadelphia are ugly or the city is a bad place to visit.
"We were asking people to vote on attractiveness, not unattractiveness. Travel & Leisure editors believe there are a lot of attractive people in Philadelphia," she said.
"The relative attractiveness of its residents is only a minuscule factor in evaluating a city's merit."
Philadelphians' self-esteem has been undermined by national surveys showing they are among the fattest people in the United States. The American Obesity Association ranked the city in the top 10 for overweight people every year between 2000 and 2005.
And sporting pride in a city known for the fierce loyalty of its fans has been hurt by not having had a national champion in any of its four main sports since the 76ers won the National Basketball Association title in 1983.

Sounds like my kind of place.

Since this study found the most attractive people to be in warm beach communities, I'm assuming it was going under the blond hair big tits little clothing idea of attractiveness. Or am I totally sterotyping?

What in Christ's name was so unattractive about the people in that commercial? They seemed perfectly ordinary, some handsomer than others and none repulsive. Jeez.

You read my mind, Beth. Obviously whichever population they surveyed don't find tall bikes attractive.

It's because I moved away. That's what caused the rate of attractiveness in Philadelphia to plummet. My absence.
(Har har har.)

I'd like to know if anyone surveyed had ever visited Pittsburgh. Or perhaps Cleveland.
Those are two fairly unattractive cities...

Just the airport, twice, both for layovers. The second time it didn't remind me as much of a skeevy old bus depot as the first time. I was also sort of distracted the second time because it turned out I knew one of the air marshals who was getting on my return flight to Boston. Hadn't seen the guy in years and I wasn't sure if he would be able to acknowledge that he knew me, but he did and we ended up shooting the s hit for awhile. Needless to say, I have never felt safer on a plane than I did on that particular flight.

my mistake, you're right sarah. i guess they're only unattractive after being forced to watch that commercial during baseball games for two consecutive years.
sorry for being so snarky. i'm still smarting after the kid took a shot at the people of boston's looks. i prefer eugene mirman's take on my city (http://www.superdeluxe.com/sd/contentDetail.do?id=D81F2344BF5AC7BB440799E8845256FAFF9988689202FF06): "nobody is crazy beautiful like a model, but nobody is really ugly either". i suppose that's true for philly as well.

I suspect it's true of most places.

It's true about Cleveland. 30 years ago the Electric Eels were considered the city's sexiest band.

Ha! From the second-ever recap (12/13/05):

This was in the context of Tom's follow-up discussion on the Ugliest Band topic from the previous week.
