Okay, clearly you're not down with prog-leaning bands, but Battles has no rightful place on your list. That record is the jam.
I've tried to like Tom Waits before.
QuoteI've tried to like Tom Waits before.
Tom Waits just needs an editor. He's one of these guys that has some good songs, some bad, and he can't seem to tell the difference. Stephin Merritt is the same way. But Rain Dogs is one of my favorite albums.
Tom S. has said that he likes Radiohead, who are the worst band ever. Except when they invented electronic music. Them and Bjork.

Spot on about Robert Pollard. I am always suspicious of the quality control of the overly prolific.
My particular animus against Radiohead is in part caused by the fact that nearly every person on the Internet loves them. Meanwhile, their music is boring and unoriginal. Remember when Perry Farrell released a drum and bass album? Radiohead are a slightly more successful version of that.

Pretty much everybody in reality likes Radiohead. It's not like they're the Ron Paul of current music. Listen to OK Computer or Amnesiac a little more closely and tell me it's unoriginal.

I've listened to every Radiohead album relatively closely, including the new one. They're just awful. Boring, indie prog rock with uninteresting IDM touches.
At least Bjork just went and *hired* people from the electronic music world to create her albums for her. Radiohead just copies. No that there's anything wrong with copying. But it's just that they're not particularly good at it. Their music is so lifeless sounding.
Unlike Perry Farrell's flirtation with drum and bass, choosing to copy sounds from Aphex Twin and so on at least exhibits better taste in music. What I hear in Radiohead is not good music, but the result of a good music collection.

Yeah, Radiohead's real proggy, the way they don't even have a song over five and a half minutes long and everything is verse-chorus-verse. Why do you keep bringing up Bjork and Perry Farrell? neither of them sound like eachother or Radiohead at all.
Feud over on my end, ok?

When you end up having a quote within a quote within a quote within a quote within a quote within a quote above what you write, it kind of defeats the purpose of the "quote" feature. You may as well just type a reply and take it on faith that a truly invested reader will read all or most of the posts that precede your posts.
That's my 2 cents on this issue.

Indubitably!QuotePretty much everybody in reality likes Radiohead. It's not like they're the Ron Paul of current music. Listen to OK Computer or Amnesiac a little more closely and tell me it's unoriginal.QuoteO.k. - that one I actually don't get... but you get the picture!

I'm pretty sure the curators at the Met haven't bought any Matthew Barney crap. That's more of a MOMA/Whitney/WAC sort of thing.
And I have a vague memory that the company is owned by a very right-wing Irish Protestant with close ties to the Tories, or at least it was - maybe The Baffler wrote about it in the 90s?
I do sometimes like Guinness, though.
In any case, I wouldn't be surprised if Barney was referencing the beer trademark and not the Irish national musical instrument - product placement would seem right at home in his work.

No, I meant Guinness sponsoring Barney because of his use of the Harp symbology (which I know is actually significant to the Irish and not a trademark, so don't get mad at me, black men of Britain).
Guinness tastes like ass. I drink Yuengling because it's kind of spicy and Blue Moon because it's kind of fruity. I'm a girl. Oh, and if neither of those are available, which is often the case in Miami, I get Heineken, because that's the only fucking option. I'm not drinking Budweiser.
Interesting about the isinglas. Hell, interesting to learn that meaning of isinglass (I was only familiar with the mica variation). I think you should host a regular feature, "Ask a Vegan," to clear up these matters for the ignorant among us (such as I). For example, there's my french fry question of a while back: why are they not vegan as long as they're cooked in a vegetable oil?
I think you should have stayed in that bar, though. Could have been great.
Paul? I think this thread is very close to a regular conversation, which means that it's about anything, everything, and nothing.

Feud over on my end, ok?
When you end up having a quote within a quote within a quote within a quote within a quote within a quote above what you write, it kind of defeats the purpose of the "quote" feature.

I'm missing the Guinness thing. Did they endorse some Met exhibit? Do they pay for Matthew Barney's expensive nonsense?I call for a thread do-over.
Ian, it seems so... inadequate now. Doesn't it?
I'm pretty sure the curators at the Met haven't bought any Matthew Barney crap. That's more of a MOMA/Whitney/WAC sort of thing.
No, I meant Guinness sponsoring Barney because of his use of the Harp symbology (which I know is actually significant to the Irish and not a trademark, so don't get mad at me, black men of Britain).

Tom S. has said that he likes Radiohead, who are the worst band ever. Except when they invented electronic music. Them and Bjork.

Tom Waits also needs some face cream.Spot on about Robert Pollard.
Listen to OK Computer or Amnesiac a little more closely and tell me it's unoriginal.[/u]I've listened to every Radiohead album [/glow] relatively closely, including the new one. They're just awffromabove that you're directlyreferencing and leave the rest of the thread out of the quoted section. Like this:[/move], who are the worst band ever.

Dude, it's like you dared me to quote that.
I disagree with some points, agree with others.[/i]I'm neutral on this matter, but, as you can see, I am pro-quoting.

I see your point, but I also see other points too.Actually, when you scroll down quickly it looks really cool.Yeah, I see what you mean. The sidelinescome out at you. Not to get all mushy, but we all built that together. :'(

But not too quickly. More like mid-speed.

The quotes boxes are starting to look like something I saw at the Abstract Expressionism exhibit at the Met.

All right, gang. This is no time to get lazy. Do we want to bring this to an end or do we want the FOT on the horn with Guinness?

TAPDANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm pretty sure the curators at the Met haven't bought any Matthew Barney crap. That's more of a MOMA/Whitney/WAC sort of thing.
[/quote]
No, I meant Guinness sponsoring Barney because of his use of the Harp symbology (which I know is actually significant to the Irish and not a trademark, so don't get mad at me, black men of Britain).

I think it's getting too self-conscious. Trying too hard now. Too bad.
AND HARRY SHEARER'S GRAMMY NOMINATED CD
Hey Tom, how about reviewing the new Mars Volta CD?
The Dirty Projectore "Rise Above"
They "cover" Damaged by Black Flag in its entirety.
How about that Vampire Weekend. You can do your own version of it. The entire thing is basically Graceland if it was written by Peter Bjorn & John with many many references to rich people things/problems.
How about that Vampire Weekend.
