Title: Non-Best-Show radio appearances by Tom?
Post by: moonshake on October 31, 2007, 01:11:21 PM
I know Tom was on 7SD at least once. Has he appeared/filled-in on other FMU shows? I'm trying to compile a list so I can go listen to them all!

There was the Kid Zone, which replaced Greazzzzy Kid Stuff at least once.  No link for you; sorry.

There was a great Scharpling & Wurster interview on AST Radio recently, probably pretty easy to find.

TSOYA interview (http://www.maximumfun.org/blog/2006/10/podcast-scharpling-wurster-2-3-05.html).

I have listened to them both a few times already.

I'll look for Kid Zone and the Jake and Jackie ones too. Thanks for the suggestions so far.

I dunno.  Unless we get Official Notice, I don't see that we have to absolutely pretend that what is true is not true.  As long as you're relatively subtle.  It's not like it's impossible to figure out, anyway.  I don't think they avoid being seen in public or anything.

That 7SD with Tom is great due to some some to an inappropriate joke that makes Andy really laugh

The show dated - August 11, 2004

The thing that bugged me about the Jake and Jackie appearance was when they couldn't keep it straight (or at least get off mic) through the jokes from the RR&R author.  Like:

W: "Metalica invented speed metal"
Jackie: "BLAH-HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!"

Overall they were pretty enjoyable shows, though.

Calling the other radio station wasn't the best comedy idea, and then calling them again to apologize probably made things worse.

The Marky phone call was terrific, though. Jackie sure loves her some erotic fiction.

I am quite possibly wrong, but I gotzta wonder...there was a 7Second Delay rebroadcast last night from January 1993. Around the 11 minute mark, a caller named 'Randy' checks into the show. Early into that call someone else picks up Randy's line and says the name Tom. Randy also says "slobs" at some point, haha, but it's hard to know if it's the Tom since it's nearly 15 years ago (and he's not using the voice modulator)...

According to Ken, Tom was the very first caller to Seven Second Delay. There was also another episode I heard where I could swear it was Tom calling in using his voice modulator in reverse.

BUMPING to post this!

About 40 minutes in, then about 45 minutes after that, then about 55 minutes in after that.
http://archive.wfmu.org:5555/archive/AV/av911129.mp3

His calls are in reference to a caller from a band called "The Pundits" who is depressed about not having any fans after only existing for 7 months. The last call is in reference to a guy who keeps calling in and singing.

He doesn't identify himself as Tom, but it's very much his voice.

Dec 31, 2009 show: http://www.wfmu.org/playlists/shows/34215  Starts at the 2:10 mark. An hour of great radio.

I also recommend the entire 4-hour show if you have the time.

Bumping an old thread time for you Scharpling completists

JUST STUMBLED ON THIS LISTENING TO BRONWYN'S ARCHIVES:

http://www.wfmu.org/playlists/TH (http://www.wfmu.org/playlists/TH) (December 19, 2000)

Tom plays Bronwyn's Teenaged twin boyfriends Justin & Otis. Don't go in looking for a lot of character work; The gag is they are lunkheaded and terse and only answer Bronwyn's questions with sentence fragments.

Note: Bronwyn had a running thing where she often referred to her teenaged twin boyfriends. this is the payoff.

Ken Plume has posted the 51 bit of a chats he did over the span of 25 hours for Comic Relief's Red Nose Day, including his interview with Tom.

Not an appearance by Tom, but Gary the Squirrel is on the latest episode of the Fogelnest Files, giving his commentary on the trailers for Grownups 3 and Star Trek.

Since Tom is sort-of regular on Ken Plume's podcast and I don't particularly want to listen to non-Tom episodes, I created this custom feed using Yahoo Pipes. Use this URL to subscribe to just the Tom episodes.

Friends of Freudian psychoanalysis might argue that Tom made an astonishing appearance on the first episode of Kurt Braunohler's The K Ohle Podcast.

Was he really on there?

No, but that guy who hates him was, and Kurt called him Tom by mistake moments after that guy said "we hate in others most what we despise about ourselves."  It was pretty insane to hear.

A man's reach should exceed his grasp, else who's gonna the entertain the trolls with nothing to contribute?

Just seems like picking scabs to me. Ill recuse myself, lest we start down a path beyond what I'd consider our business.

Inspired by this thread and my constant search through iTunes to find anything Best Show related, I compiled a list of Scharpling appearances on podcasts in my blog. I'm sure I missed something, but I tried my best.

Sorry to resurrect this, but it made me really happy when I downloaded a recommended episode of a podcast I hadn't heard before, Superego, and recognized Tom's voice as a guy at a convention. Season 3, Episode 1.

Does anyone know what podcasts Tom might appear on in November? I know he is taking a trip to LA. I'm betting maybe something on Maximum Fun or maybe Earwolf, but that one might be weird, I guess. I'd love to see him on Nerdist and just play a sound collage.

It's time to steamroll those chumps.

I worry that he isn't nerdy enough for Nerdist.

Personally, I'd love to hear Tom on U Talkin' U2 To Me? and the Todd Glass Show.

U Talkin' U2 would be so funny, he was great on Analyzing Phish. A WTF episode or another Mark and Tom Show seems probable. I think it is unlikely he would do Hardwick's podcast. He has been tearing apart @Midnite since it began. Also, didn't Hardwick blow it with garbage language when he called in once? POINTS!!!

It's time to steamroll those chumps.

I was just about to ask, how long does it take to drive from New Jersey to LA in a steamroller?

Seriously, it would be great to hear Tom on:
The Joe Rogan Experience
Getting Doug with High
The Adam Carolla Show
Doug Loves Movies (with co-guests Michael Showalter, and Samm Levine)
Greg Proops Is the Smartest Man in the World
The Nerdist
Girl on Guy with Aisha Tyler
Never Not Funny
Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend
You Made It Weird
The Duncan Trussell Family Hour
Ari Shaffir's Skeptic Tank
The Dana Gould Hour
and
Kevin Pollak's Chat Show

Hopefully he has time to get to all of those during his visit, and that's only 1% of the comedy podcasts in LA turning out weekly episodes.

I have a hard time imagining that Tom would be a guest on the "Never Funny Poscast", given that he's "never heard a minute of that thing". Ditto on the "down-home Goebbels" Adam Carolla's show.
