I know Tom was on 7SD at least once. Has he appeared/filled-in on other FMU shows? I'm trying to compile a list so I can go listen to them all!
-
There was the Kid Zone, which replaced Greazzzzy Kid Stuff at least once. No link for you; sorry.
-
There was a great Scharpling & Wurster interview on AST Radio recently, probably pretty easy to find.
-
idk did you try searching the WFMU site ?
-
He was on the Jake and Jackie show a few times. I can't seem to find any links. I might still have the mp3 of it though, I'll look around.

Yes, but it wasn't very helpful.

I have listened to them both a few times already.
I'll look for Kid Zone and the Jake and Jackie ones too. Thanks for the suggestions so far.
-
Here's (http://wfmu.org/playlists/shows/4956) where you can find at least one GKS hosted by Tom S. and the charming Terre T. Not sure if there's more than one, after all.

Hold on, I'm lost. What now?

Josh, thank you for defending my honor. Which, in this instance, did not deserve it.
Ian, thank you for alerting me to my faux-pas. I've fixed mine, now you fix yours.
-
I dunno. Unless we get Official Notice, I don't see that we have to absolutely pretend that what is true is not true. As long as you're relatively subtle. It's not like it's impossible to figure out, anyway. I don't think they avoid being seen in public or anything.
-
My tongue was sort of in my cheek when I made the adjustment, buffcoat. I am not wedded to the pretense; I just felt like going along with it at 08:48:02.
-
Pine State vs. Pine Tree State - LET'S GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Josh, thank you for defending my honor. Which, in this instance, did not deserve it.
Ian, thank you for alerting me to my faux-pas. I've fixed mine, now you fix yours.
Aye. I might just be paranoid after the C-----n J--k fiasco.
-
Pine State vs. Pine Tree State - LET'S GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have no idea what led you to this challenge, but I happily concede--unless KTB agrees to serve as my proxy and you allow it. Far too tired to fight for myself, much less my adoptive state.

Just for fun!
Now I challenge all residents of the Natural, Peachtree, and Volunteer States!

That's the problem with censoring
that seems way dirtier than what it actually is.
-
Just for fun!
I know, snookums. If only the bloodlust were upon me. That Friday when KTB decided to target me was one of the best times I've had all year. But I must be content with feebly shaking my fist in your general direction and hope that someone more inspired than I takes up the challenge.

Last month, I found some interview stuff on the USA Network site where Tom and Andy talk about Monk.
This may be old news for the FOTs. I always catch onto things late.
-
That 7SD with Tom is great due to some some to an inappropriate joke that makes Andy really laugh
The show dated - August 11, 2004

Thanks pinto! I got to listen to it today, but I found Jake and Jackie annoying and had to skip through most of their chatter.
-
The thing that bugged me about the Jake and Jackie appearance was when they couldn't keep it straight (or at least get off mic) through the jokes from the RR&R author. Like:
W: "Metalica invented speed metal"
Jackie: "BLAH-HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!"
Overall they were pretty enjoyable shows, though.

Any idea what time in the show Tom goes on? These two are annoying.

Tom (or someone who sounds exactly like him) has definately called into Chris T's old show Aerial View at least a couple of times, but hell if I could find the specific shows.

Hour forty minutes in. I will post an edited version on the Vault within days.
-
Cool. I eventually scanned ahead (man, was I being lazy...) and found Tom. And Mark. And ventriloquist Mark. How you doin', Mark. Good, how you doin', Mark.
-
Two other Sound of Young America appearances:
Here (http://www.maximumfun.org/sound/scharpling.mp3) and Here (http://media.libsyn.com/media/tsoya/tsoya111205.mp3)
Edited to include:
Here's Tom on Cherry Blossom Clinic during this year's fundraiser right here. (http://wfmu.org/listen.ram?show=22423&archive=33955) (March 17th, 2007) There are also six other appearances by the kid. Just Ctrl+F "Scharpling" on the page.
-
Wow, Jake from Jake and Jackie is like an incredibly annoying Sam Seder.
-
I like Jake and Jackie, they are okay in my book
where are they
-
I'm a Fogelnest fan going back to Squirt TV, consider it a misfired wisecrack.
I turfed out.
-
Calling the other radio station wasn't the best comedy idea, and then calling them again to apologize probably made things worse.
The Marky phone call was terrific, though. Jackie sure loves her some erotic fiction.
-
I am quite possibly wrong, but I gotzta wonder...there was a 7Second Delay rebroadcast last night from January 1993. Around the 11 minute mark, a caller named 'Randy' checks into the show. Early into that call someone else picks up Randy's line and says the name Tom. Randy also says "slobs" at some point, haha, but it's hard to know if it's the Tom since it's nearly 15 years ago (and he's not using the voice modulator)...

According to Ken, Tom was the very first caller to Seven Second Delay. There was also another episode I heard where I could swear it was Tom calling in using his voice modulator in reverse.

BUMPING to post this!
About 40 minutes in, then about 45 minutes after that, then about 55 minutes in after that.
http://archive.wfmu.org:5555/archive/AV/av911129.mp3
His calls are in reference to a caller from a band called "The Pundits" who is depressed about not having any fans after only existing for 7 months. The last call is in reference to a guy who keeps calling in and singing.
He doesn't identify himself as Tom, but it's very much his voice.
-
Also here! About 45 minutes in:

Still have my fingers crossed for Toms long over due appearance on Shut Up Weirdo.
-
Ask not what The Best Show can do for you, but what you can do for The Best Show.
-
Tom called Night People again! They talk about Pinball machines and Rush Limbaugh. A new friendship is born.
Dec 31, 2009 show: http://www.wfmu.org/playlists/shows/34215 Starts at the 2:10 mark. An hour of great radio.
I also recommend the entire 4-hour show if you have the time.

Here (http://www.maximumfun.org/sound/scharpling.mp3)
I've been trying to attach a date to this appearance. I'm sick, I admit it.
Anybody got any idea? the other two appearances happened in 2005 I think. This is probably 2004 sometime, but I'm hoping to narrow it down more. Thanks in advance I love you
-
Why don't you just ask Jesse? Oh, I forgot he doesn't care about the little people anymore.
(That's not true. I think.)
EDIT: I love you

Bumping an old thread time for you Scharpling completists
JUST STUMBLED ON THIS LISTENING TO BRONWYN'S ARCHIVES:
http://www.wfmu.org/playlists/TH (http://www.wfmu.org/playlists/TH) (December 19, 2000)
Tom plays Bronwyn's Teenaged twin boyfriends Justin & Otis. Don't go in looking for a lot of character work; The gag is they are lunkheaded and terse and only answer Bronwyn's questions with sentence fragments.
Note: Bronwyn had a running thing where she often referred to her teenaged twin boyfriends. this is the payoff.
-
BUMP with some recent things.

Ken Plume just did a part 6 of his epic Scharpling-a-thon....I am new to Best Show and loving this!
-
Tom pitching the Christopher Nolan reboot of McDonaldland is super super funny. I could listen to Tom pitching insane ideas all day!

I've just listened to all of these - they're all interesting, but this was the best part. Liam Neeson as Mayor McCheese - "I do one thing well - kill people."

Thanks, Iago. For some reason, it doesn't show up on the main interview page, but I found it with Google.

Tom and Andy Kindler on this week's Am I Right is well worth your time.
-
Thank you Dave!
-
I would pay good money for a Tom & Andy Show. Their chemistry is terrific.
-

I second this, as well as having Andy in the studio for an entire show.
-
Is it possible that the four of them are still talking? :D
Loved every second of that.
-
I 4th this recommendation. I only knew Andy Kindler from Last Coming Standing (which he was great on). Now I'm a big fan, I really appreciate his attitude and take on things. Link for those who don't iTunes http://feeds.feedburner.com/AmIRightCJSW (http://feeds.feedburner.com/AmIRightCJSW)

just listened to the andy/tom am i right episode on a cross country flight and it's a wonderful tour de force. thanks, evan and jesse.

Oh yeah--just listened. Amazing.
-
The Low Times draft might be my favorite thing ever. Scharpling/Kindler also great.

Allow me to deviate a bit from the topic title: The Saturn Scene podcast episode with Jon Wurster pulls back the curtain in a cool way on America's favorite not-the-straight-man.

On the Low Times, what did they cut out of Albini's comments about David Byrne?

Ken Plume has posted the 51 bit of a chats he did over the span of 25 hours for Comic Relief's Red Nose Day, including his interview with Tom.

I'm listening to it right now. Tom was the second-to-last interviewee.

Not an appearance by Tom, but Gary the Squirrel is on the latest episode of the Fogelnest Files, giving his commentary on the trailers for Grownups 3 and Star Trek.

Since Tom is sort-of regular on Ken Plume's podcast and I don't particularly want to listen to non-Tom episodes, I created this custom feed using Yahoo Pipes. Use this URL to subscribe to just the Tom episodes.

Friends of Freudian psychoanalysis might argue that Tom made an astonishing appearance on the first episode of Kurt Braunohler's The K Ohle Podcast.
-
Friends of Freudian psychoanalysis might argue that Tom made an astonishing appearance on the first episode of Kurt Braunohler's The K Ohle Podcast.
Was he really on there?
-
No, but that guy who hates him was, and Kurt called him Tom by mistake moments after that guy said "we hate in others most what we despise about ourselves." It was pretty insane to hear.
-
...bit of a reach.
-
A man's reach should exceed his grasp, else who's gonna the entertain the trolls with nothing to contribute?
-
Just seems like picking scabs to me. Ill recuse myself, lest we start down a path beyond what I'd consider our business.

Maybe it's my morbid curiosity, but I kinda want to hear/read whatever this tweet was referring to:

Inspired by this thread and my constant search through iTunes to find anything Best Show related, I compiled a list of Scharpling appearances on podcasts in my blog. I'm sure I missed something, but I tried my best.

their wordhate roundtable is pure nourishment
oh man, and a live tour! if that happens, i have to come to america.
-
Sorry to resurrect this, but it made me really happy when I downloaded a recommended episode of a podcast I hadn't heard before, Superego, and recognized Tom's voice as a guy at a convention. Season 3, Episode 1.
-
Does anyone know what podcasts Tom might appear on in November? I know he is taking a trip to LA. I'm betting maybe something on Maximum Fun or maybe Earwolf, but that one might be weird, I guess. I'd love to see him on Nerdist and just play a sound collage.
It's time to steamroll those chumps.
-
i'd love to see him on Nerdist and just play a sound collage.
I worry that he isn't nerdy enough for Nerdist.
Personally, I'd love to hear Tom on U Talkin' U2 To Me? and the Todd Glass Show.
-
U Talkin' U2 would be so funny, he was great on Analyzing Phish. A WTF episode or another Mark and Tom Show seems probable. I think it is unlikely he would do Hardwick's podcast. He has been tearing apart @Midnite since it began. Also, didn't Hardwick blow it with garbage language when he called in once? POINTS!!!
-
I would like to hear him and Ron Bennington, I know Toms a fan.
-
It's time to steamroll those chumps.
I was just about to ask, how long does it take to drive from New Jersey to LA in a steamroller?
Seriously, it would be great to hear Tom on:
The Joe Rogan Experience
Getting Doug with High
The Adam Carolla Show
Doug Loves Movies (with co-guests Michael Showalter, and Samm Levine)
Greg Proops Is the Smartest Man in the World
The Nerdist
Girl on Guy with Aisha Tyler
Never Not Funny
Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend
You Made It Weird
The Duncan Trussell Family Hour
Ari Shaffir's Skeptic Tank
The Dana Gould Hour
and
Kevin Pollak's Chat Show
Hopefully he has time to get to all of those during his visit, and that's only 1% of the comedy podcasts in LA turning out weekly episodes.
-
I have a hard time imagining that Tom would be a guest on the "Never Funny Poscast", given that he's "never heard a minute of that thing". Ditto on the "down-home Goebbels" Adam Carolla's show.
-
I'd like to cast my vote for Ronna and Beverly, actually.
