Oklahoma City. If was a hometown show.  If you ever get a chance to check them out, even if you're not into their music, you should definitely do it.

I've read some music message boards that complain that the show is not original or inventive because they've been doing the same things for the last 5 years of so, but they really get into it, the crowd enjoys it and it's still a lot of fun.

They gave everyone in the arena a laser pointer and then filled the place up with smoke and had them all shoot the lasers at a mirror Wayne was holding.  It was a pretty neat effect.

It is one of the sadder facts of my life that I got to see them at City Gardens in Trenton in 1986, opening up for The Dayglow Abortions, and mostly ignored them because everyone said they were hippies.  And then I bought a Dayglow Abortions shirt featuring Ron and Nancy Reagan eating a fetus that my mom immediately made me get rid of.

Flaming Lips, London Astoria July 2002 - best gig I've ever seen.

Caught them last summer and they're still great, even if (whisper it) none of their albums are that good.

obviously I'm biased because they're from here, but I really enjoy their albums from every era.  Interestingly, the one that gets the most critical acclaim (The Soft Bulletin) is probably my least favorite.  Also, I wasn't that into this most recent album.

Shut yer gob, samir!

I think Yoshimi is overrated, but Clouds Taste Metallic and Soft Bulletin are terrific records. I'm not a Lips completist, but from what I've heard, they've never made a bad record. Even their last one (which I'm not a fan of) was at least 50% good material.

I last got to see them in OKC in 2006, at the show that became the UFOs at the Zoo DVD. The guy in the dinosaur suit seen during the costume contest is a friend of mine and actually gave me a free ticket to the show. I thank God that I am seen on the DVD only briefly - during the closing credits, no less. If I were seen on the DVD for more than ten seconds, I would've died of shame.

I love Hit To Death In The Future Head and wish they would at least start playing stuff off that one again. They really need to mix up the setlist.

I'm with Samir. It would be fun to watch them live but I've never been all that interested in their music. They aren't bad by any means. I agree that they haven't made a bad record but nothing comes out at me as great.

Me and Andy from Knoxville bonded over Yoshimi, so nothing can top that, past or future. Same with me and my awesome dad, Beanhead from Nashville, watching Pride of the Yankees together while he was dying of cancer. Don't try to claim any film is more important; you will LOSE. I can't say I will beat you with a baby, though. I don't have THAT level of commitment to Gentleman Cooper.

Same goes for the Polyphonic Spree, fer serious!

Flaming Lips are so much fun. They do the same show every time, but which bands don't? It's just more noticeable cos they have nun puppets and lasers.

They supported Bob Dylan here a couple of summers ago... a massive stadium show... and me and a friend got onstage... me as an alien. Best day ever! Leading 20,000 people along to Radio GaGa-style handclaps... a Santa proposed to an alien (not me!) during Do You Realize. Such nice chaps too. Bob Dylban didn't stand a chance after them.

I never had a copy of "Clouds taste Mettallic" and I found it in a cut out bin for $4 last week.

Its really good, I have been listening to it all holiday season, it even has a Christmas song on it.

They are super fun live, I have seen them in little clubs and in big venues and they always manage to blow me away.

I love them. I saw them with Wilco and Sleater Kinney on New Years Eve four years ago, and it was awesome. It would have been the best New Years ever if my ex boyfriend hadn't dumped me for another girl 2 weeks earlier.

Their old stuff is good, but I think their first perfect album was  The Soft Bulletin.  It's pretty amazing to me. That's probably the standout. Yoshimi is pretty wonderful too, I dare anyone not to tear up during Do You Realize?.

I really didn't like At War With The Mystics very much though. I thought it was kind of blah. But when they perform the songs from it it's pretty wonderful.

I saw them last year, and it's in my top 5 shows ever. I could've done without the bit where Wayne asked everyone in the audience to turn to the person they came with and say, "I love you." Fortunately, I went with FOT Josh, and I feel a platonic sort of love for every single one of my fellow FOTs. Awwww. Still, it was kind of awkward. I'm not so good at expressing love or affection.

For the record, my favorite show EVER EVER EVER was His Name Is Alive at CMJ. I can't wait for the opportunity to see a full show from Warren (Warn?) Defever and friends. I hope they play San Francisco. I can use it as an excuse to visit my brother!

Weird! I was at that show too! Oh, the stories I have about that night...

Anyways, I remember Sleater-Kinney completely owning that show, although Wilco's breakout of "Love Will Keep Us Together" was not an unpleasant surprise.

Sleater Kinney was one of my favorites for a long time (I was so deep into that riot grrl stuff in high school). That was a nice last time seeing them for me, now that they've broken up).

I have stories about that night as well. I kissed the guy next to me at midnight, and he was a stranger. I've never done anything that crazy, but I was feeling particularly brave I guess. Also I was very drunk.

That wasn't you was it?

No, but wouldn't it be cool if it had been?

It would have been crazy. I was telling that story to my boyfriend the other day, and I was thinking "who was that guy, and where is he now?". I wonder if he remembers it, and tells his friends about it. Or maybe I'm giving myself too much credit. It could happen to him all the time. It was pretty crazy for me though. Probably the nuttiest thing I've ever done.

I'm such a dork.

I've been wondering what that guitar is. The only lucites I know are those Dan Armstrong Ampeg guitars. What is that guitar?

Had a chance to take part in the Zaireeka synchronized tape experiment but, regrettably,  passed.

Have no regrets Rainer.  I went to one in Norman, OK, in 97', and it was the kind of thing that sounds better in discussion than in participation.  Interesting yes, but...  only a little.
