On New Year's eve I was at Harvard station waiting for the train to work and I was scoping the platform when I glimpsed this guy. It was uncanny, and a bit scary.

This next shot was taken right before he proceeded to beat up the Ashmont train. Needless to say, I had to hoof it to Central Square that night.

I can't decide whether that is magnificent or terrifying.
-
Wow. Those Gorch pictures should be part of the art contest! It would be the only thing that could possibly beat that sweet poster.
-
i can only imagine the gorch was getting a malted at charlie's kitchen before the big new years eve chain fight with the parksmen at the tenean beach parking lot in dot.
-
Chainfight in Harvard Square!!
-
You're damn lucky he didn't notice you taking his picture. I suspect the chain would have been put to immediate use.
Where do you suppose he conceals it on his person?
-
He wears it like a belt.
-
Of course.
-
I imagined it sliding out of his sleeve right into his hand like Travis Bickle's gun
-
I swear, cameras these days are so high-resloution it's frightening.
-
Well, it was a cellphone camera, and (of course) I was trembling.
-
I would have been, too. The fuzziness actually adds to the Loch Ness-size of the Gorch legend.

Well, it was a cellphone camera, and (of course) I was trembling.
I love the fact that it only accentuates his horrible natural posture.
-
I don't have photographic proof, but earlier this summer I saw two identical Gorches on the bus. Old, skinny, stooped, dressed in blue jeans and white t-shirts with rolled-up sleeves (at least one of which had a cigarette pack tucked inside). It was kind of unnerving, like the S.E. Hinton version of The Parent Trap.
