Title: American Gladiators
Post by: Chris L on January 07, 2008, 08:25:55 AM
I didn't watch it last night but I read elsewhere that one of the gladiators uttered the line, "Justice has been served... facially."

I think it was one of the commentators, which was even funnier. And that wasn't even the best part. I think more facials will be getting doled out tonight, right?

I was a little disappointed that, unlike the great Mike Adamle, The Immortal Hulk Hogan (his full legal name) didn't personally run through The New Eliminator to demonstrate how it should be done.

This was so awesome, though I could use without the 49 (30 of which are TIGHT) camera angles and the 1/2 second cuts.

But, swimming under fire! And Assault!

The between-challenge interviews with the contestants might be my fav part.  They manage to perfectly straddle the line between inspirational and very confused.

Having seen another episode, I can now say that while I appreciate whatever brand of sorcery or super-science it takes to set water on fire (Executive Producer Randy Newman is making his presence known), the new Eliminator isn't working for me. I gotta think a guy like The World's Greatest Living Athlete, Makoto Nagano, would blow through that thing without breaking a sweat.

But Wolf is definitely the highlight of the show, and I will probably cast my presidential vote for whichever candidate he throws his support behind.

Idiocracy seems more prophetic every day.

I wonder if that's the same Wolf from that episode of Brass Eye where they got him to talk about the elephant with the trunk stuck up its ass?

That upcoming Fox show where people are connected to lie detectors... that'll be our "Ow! My Balls!"

Idiocracy The Running Man seems more prophetic every day.

Fixed!

I watched the old version when I was a little kid and think I enjoy the overall crappy production of the old one, but the new one can't be topped for ridiculous interviews, editing, and unnecessary graphics. And you can tell they're still toying with the rules and events -- the eliminator was hilarious because the two guys were so exhausted by the end that they couldn't get up a treadmill and it was a solid 3 minutes of them running running running FLOP fallfallfall stand and pant (repeat). I'm so ashamed I watched even 10 minutes of it.

Agreed. Chuck Norris's tears couldn't stay in the cancer ward with Nagano for 1 minute.
