I will say this about The Wire after watching season 1: OMAR rocks.

Yeah, his recaps are the best.  It's a shame he's been to busy to post them on a regular basis lately.

I think I've become addicted to watching them back-to-back while I'm quitting smoking. The Wire is my anti-drug.

Still can't see how people call it the best TV show.

after a brief pause due to travel and work, I picked up disc 2 of season 1 last night and watched both episodes.  I've been hooked since the beginning, but now I'm past the first 5 episodes that everyone talks about.

Actually, I would say that you have to get to the second episode, not the fifth.  I rolled my eyes a couple of times at the first episode but after the second episode I committed.
