I know there was a thread here of movie stills with folks trying to guess which is which. Figured I would start up a new thread of it. Here is the first one. The actor is pretty easy to recognize but what's the film.

-
That looks so fudging familiar ... Argh!
-
One of the finest noirs ever - Kiss Me Deadly.
-
crimestick beat me to it.
-
Congrats Crimestick, nothing better the Ralph Meeker slapping everyone around in that flick
-
Alright then, my turn:
I don't know if that's too hard, but just in case, here's one more (not from the same movie):
-
Can we have another Clu?
-
Yeah, sorry. Here are two more clues, one from each movie:

(Ms. Klausner knows this one!)
-
Is the first one from Tapeheads? The first still made me think so, and since the second is of a fake video, I'm now pretty sure I'm right.
-
Ding ding ding! Well done Sarah!
-
Sploops deserves some sly-ass credit, too.
-
The second one, of course, is The Room.

-
Yeah, but did anyone notice my clever use of "Clu" in place of clue? Like Clu Gulager. Get it? Because he's in the first picture. Haw! Haw!
Edit: Doh! thanks buffcoat!
-
Sorry Sploops! And congratulations Jouster!
-
I noticed, Sploops. I figured you just wanted another ogle of Mr. Gulager, who was so particularly attractive in the role featured here, don't you think? I seem to recall socks with garters and a large bare bottom.
I have no idea what movie the other two stills are from, by the by.
-
OK, who can guess this one?
-
Is that Rita Hayworth reflected in the mirror?
-
Jack Elam was the patron saint of the Party Doctor, BTW.

this is a toughy

Awesome movie.

No.
-
sparks, you're killing me with that one...
-
Older Dick Powell and a haughty blonde. I should know this.
-
Could it be Murder, My Sweet? I haven't seen it in ages, but it would explain why it's familiar.
-
obviously, but which one ::)
The one in the middle?

That's what I was wondering, crimestick.

bingo! I picked a really obvious screen capture i guess ( i was going to go and pick, a scene from the airport or something, but I thought that would be too hard)
everyone guessed the movies I knew. That damned cake and ants looks ridiculously familiar. It's going to drive me crazy.

Too fast! Darn. But worth it to post that picture.
I love that movie. Including the music, which I know a lot of people think is crap. My second viewing of it also saw the introduction of a new phrase into my family's private lexicon: "the Bar Harbor position." (My mother parked the car in drive when we went to see the movie--in Bar Harbor--and it took forever for us to figure out what was wrong when we were trying to go home. Fascinating anecdote, huh?)

Suspiria imagery
ROME — Italo horror-meister Dario Argento will shoot “Giallo,” an English-language homage to the genre that made him a cult helmer, with Ray Liotta, Vincent Gallo and Argento’s daughter Asia Argento attached to star.
Argento’s latest thriller will revolve around serial slashings of some very attractive women being investigated by a solitary cop, played by Liotta, who engages in a cat-and-mouse game with the psychopathic perpetrator, played by Gallo.
This will probably be the best film ever made.

Talk about a trainwreck in the making - it's like a movie-game, worst-case, parody of a film. Everyone involved is so washed up and/or over the top it's ridiculous.
(I still love Prince Vince though. And of course I'll see it when it comes out.)
-
Sounds original. Maybe a bit too innovative for my taste.
-
Suspiria stinks.
-
Is there a thread made that actually lists these "off the beaten path" movies so I can fill my Blockbuster queue?

Jeez.

It's actually kind of disappointing since this game is inspiring people to go and watch some of these flicks.

How can Argento be a hack when he makes completely original and idiosyncratic films for 30 years (after Two Evil Eyes I don't like much.)
I think you need to dictionary the word "hack!"

RIP Suzanne Pleshette - The Birds
-
I'm surprisingly sad she's dead. I always liked her. Her relative youth and the cause of her death were hardly surprising, however. Tom would have given her hell if she'd ever called the show.
Not from a movie but a charming picture of her:

Obviously nobody has seen the movie because if you have you would have got it from both of those pictures I think. I guess it was kind of tricky because it was originally aired on BBC I think in 1966 as a Wednesday Play. Here's one more screencap that should give it away to most.

I'll take a guess is it some version of Alice in Wonderland with Peter Cook as the Mad Hatter
-
And Michael Gough as somebody . . . um, the March Hare, according to IMDb.
-
Yeah it's Jonathan Miller's Alice in Wonderland. Excellent film. It also stars, Michael Redgrave, Peter Sellers, Leo McKern and John Gielgud among many others with music by Ravi Shankar.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice_in_Wonderland_%281966_film%29
-
It sounds wonderful. Why doesn't the Box have it, damn it?
On the bright side, though, as I was looking for it there, I found many things by Dennis Potter of which I'd never heard, including two from 1965. I also bumped into something from 1965 by Ken Loach, which led me to search for more by him. All in all, a very successful bit of browsing.

A friend of mine encountered Clu Gulager last night and filed this report:
"I witnessed the legend himself, Clu Gulager, win a porn film tonight. We were both at a sold-out screening of the 1979 blaxploitation picture Penitentiary and his raffle ticket got called. He accepted his prize -- I forget the exact title, but it might have been Anal Inspectors 6 -- with surpassing grace."
Weird-O-Wood indeed. These are the kinds of raffles that go down at the L.A. rep houses? What's wrong with a nice gift certificate to Poquito Mas?
