$2.99 for an old movie and $3.99 for a new release is ridiculous. I'm not paying that much to have a movie for 24 hours. You get to keep it for 30 days and it starts the 24 hour countdown once you start watching. But, my local video store has better prices than that. How does this compete with Netflix or Redbox? Oh yeah...people will buy anything Apple puts on the market.

Post by: Beth on January 15, 2008, 06:43:48 PM: I guess that's not awful. But yeah, netflix has some deals where they charge 5 bucks for the whole month. But you only get one movie at a time. So that's probably much better than what Apple is doing. However, last time I checked, the local chain video stores were renting movies for that much.

eh apple isn't breaking ground with that. you pay 4.99 or 5.99 for movies via comcast on demand... they're just aligning themselves with traditional pay-per-view fee structures.

Post by: Gilly on January 15, 2008, 07:06:15 PM: I was expecting Apple to be more in line with Redbox (the things you find in McDonalds, Walmart and other places and can rent movies for a buck a day) than Comcast On Demand and Blockbuster. Especially since you're already paying for an internet connection to be able to download the movies in the first place....and that they are making money off the AppleTV's and Ipods you can play them on.
