as per PFT's suggestion.
-
this should be a poll.

done and done.

I've had neither, so I must abstain.
-
I don't think I've ever had either one, so I too must abstain.

Neither have I!
We don't have either of them in Canada, but they both sound equally horrifying. So I'm curious.
-
I have tried neither.
-
funyuns by far.
-
I have never heard of either so I'll go for funyuns...

This is a wall in my room:

And there's a TON more where that came from. I don't currently know where they are, but they are not being used in a pop-art manner. It should be known that I collected these in 7th or 8th grade. I haven't actually eaten Funyuns in years.

Funyons in a rout!
-
I feel a need to defend the honor of Munchos. Whenever I'm completely out of control for a few minutes, diet-wise, and feel like I have a free pass to eat whatever I can, sometimes I'll eat a bag of Munchos. It's sort of a forbidden fruit, and they always seem to be in the generic convenience stores I drive by in my Bookmobile. They have an interesting texture--they sort of melt in your mouth, and they cut it up at the same time (not quite to the extent of Cap'n Crunch, but the Cap'n is the champ in that category).
I lie to myself and say they're almost healthy, since they are supposedly made from potatos. But the fact that you end up with a fine, oily sheen on your fingers and lips that's difficult to remove belies the "healthy" thing, in my book.
I do wonder why they're only found in out-of-the-way shops around here. I guess they keep way past their sell-by dates.
-
I hate both of them, but Funyuns have a much longer aftertaste so Munchos wins by a nose (and by nose I mean pew-yew they stink).

SathingTron, do you play the upright bass and trombone at the same time? Because that would be the first one-man-band worth seeing, ever
also, Munchos.

Haha, I wish. I'm actually pretty lousy at each of the instruments separately. Playing trombone causes my nose to vibrate, which makes it really itchy and annoying to deal with. Because of this, I never am able to get much practice in on it. Then of course there's upright bass, which is easily one of the most difficult instruments to play effectively.
I have thought before that it would be a cool idea to play both trombone and theremin simultaneously. It could actually probably be pulled off with much practice. At the same time, foot pedals could be operated to hit drums. Of course, I'd never be able to do this, but somebody should...

Both of these snacks are the kind of thing that I've always been afraid of in the vending machines. Next time, I'll give it a shot.
Are they vegetarian?
-
Munchos are vegetarian and I think also vegan. Funyuns are not vegan, as it contains buttermilk.

Offering this to shore up Muncho's Rout. 8:00 mark.
-
Funyuns also have MSG, which is a deal breaker for me when it comes to giving into garbage snacks. Doritos, too.
-
Come on, people, it's really simple.
FUNyun's are FUN.
MUNCHo's MUNCH, as in, I will kill you and flay you, you MUNCH".
-
I voted for Funyuns, though to be fair Munchos did launch the career of one of the 20th century's great television icons.

These days, no one can mention Funyans or the Fugees without me immediately saying "Fugees and Funyans" in my best Seth voice.

MSG makes my blood feel itchy. So, no more Funyuns or Doritos for me.

I was a big Funyuniak in my youth but they're really coarse and gave me cankers (and a mouthful of sores ain't no fun.) Nowadays I go for a Vietnamese product akin to the more refined Wise Onion flavored Rings. Munchos are basically just potato chips except they pulverize the potatoes and reconstitute them into chip shapes. Boring.

Well. I vote for healthy snacks like carrots and celery, and so should all of you. For shame.

-
Do you dip those in Karo syrup?
-
Syrup, then egg, then flour, then deep fry them all over again.
-

Has it? I hadn't noticed. Me, I like good food and bad food, although I suppose the packaged bad food in which I indulge is pretty limited (potato chips being my biggest vice in that department, plus a newly reawakened addiction to Campbell's vegetable beef soup, from which I've suffered since I was six). But I eat plenty of homemade bad food: french fries, on occasion onion rings, buttered popcorn, rich cheese, ice cream. I honestly just don't much like packaged food and fast food; does that make me a food snob? Probably. If so, I don't much care. My junk might be more up market, but it's still junk.
-
Oh man, home made potato chips and pita chips are the best.
-
I new a guy who pronounced funyons as "Fune-Jellose." I never understood why. That is all I have to contribute.
