Title: Achewood
Post by: Em2 on February 04, 2008, 05:56:46 PM
Dear Tom,

What do you think of Achewood (http://Achewood.com)?

I see a lot of similarities between your show and the comic (many well-developed characters who have grown over the years; references to obscure pop culture).

Thanks,

EclecticMuzikMan

I know you're asking Tom, but I gotta say, I love Achewood.  Especially this one:

And this one, where Ray goes back in time and meets Mark Twain:

I, too, always saw a similarity in TBSOWFMU and Achewood, not necessarily a similarity in the material, but more in how they aren't that easy to jump right into but pay off big time in the end.  They're really hard to explain to people and don't shine in their true glory until you've experienced a hefty chunk.  I've constantly told friends and relatives about both fine institutions, and maybe only one out of every four or five ever really gets into either of them.  My brother told me to check them out, so I read a few Achewoods and listened to one Best Show, and I didn't really get either of them.  They were hard to understand somehow.  It was like, "What is this?"  Eventually, I went back and tried them again, and everything clicked for me.  Now, I read Achewood religiously and can't wait for the Best Show podcast to download every week.  I would certainly recommend that FOT give Achewood a shot.

I have never seen Achewood before. I will check it out on your recommendation.

Thanks!

Tom.

Funny timing, since today's strip basically hinges on a whole ton of self-referential gags that might not be as funny if you haven't been reading the strip for a while.

Couldn't agree more!  I've been an Achewood fan for a while and it's hard to find a good webcomic that has been doing it so well, so consistently.

(and since we're linking to some classics, this one has always stuck in my mind http://m.assetbar.com/achewood/uuafHsbwz (http://m.assetbar.com/achewood/uuafHsbwz))

I'm no Bryce, but for some reason starting a joint-rolling company tickled me enough to buy a signed print:
