Hello everybody!
Spread the word - Week Two of The Best Show On WFMU marathon is gonna be heavy duty.
Ted Leo returns for his second year of The Best Show marathon, playing songs for pledges.
But we up the ante with two more amazing guests:
Patton Oswalt is going to be in the studio doing funny stuff for pledges!
And Ben Gibbard from Death Cab For Cutie and The Postal Service is gonna come by and play some music for pledges!
But the operative word is PLEDGES. If you haven't pledged yet, you have to do it this Tuesday, March 4th between 8-11 PM EST by calling 1-800-989-9368 or going to www.wfmu.org ! This is going to be your LAST CHANCE to get a copy of The Best Show On WFMU WE DID IT AGAIN Fun Pack, which includes a t-shirt, a sticker, the amazing poster and the amazing Patton Oswalt CD EP entitled FRANKENSTEINS AND GUMDROPS, which is available ONLY during my marathon! Once it's gone, it's GONE.
Please spread the word on this. Let everybody you know who might be interested in pledging know what's going down. Ted Leo, Ben Gibbard and Patton Oswalt all LIVE IN STUDIO for The Best Show this Tuesday, March 4th between 8-11 PM EST!
Tom.

If we have already pledged, can we pledge again?

Yes, you can pledge again!

JM in the AM's final total is $125,699. Think the FOT can donate $85,700 tomorrow, so the show will indeed be supreme? (Seriously, though, when you consider that JM/AM is on five days a week, last week's $40,000 becomes all the more impressive. May this week match or surpass it!)

I find all this competitive one-upmanship about which DJ earned what to be very not toward. The goal about the marathon is to raise much-needed money for WFMU, not make Bob Jones or Pat Duncan the highest grossing DJ.
-
I agree.
LET'S PLEDGE THE F OUT OF EVERYONE TOMORROW PEOPLE!! WE WILL WIN!! THE BEST SHOW WILL REIGN SUPREME!!
-
I think it's all in fun, Gravy Boat. All of the money goes into the same (hopefully) big pile.
-
Of course, gravy. What I really wish is that I were a modern-day John Beresford Tipton who could give a pledge to every single show on the roster. It has been very hard holding off till tomorrow night. The Web-only DJs in particular pluck at my heartstrings.

Did you come to this conclusion during your meditation class?
Also, I let it be known to a podcasting friend of mine that he will NOT be burning my new Patton Oswalt CD if he doesn't pledge. Nems the breaks, kid.

Hi,
Does anyone know the number to call from o/seas?? I don't have the net at home and want to pledge tonight.
-
I just found out that I may not be able to listen tonight. My laptop is broken and my boyfriend's internet mysteriously stopped working. (That happens a lot in his building.)
Poo.
-
I believe it's (201) 413-9368.

Tom.
Pledging online is the easiest way to go as Tom's phone slaves are typically drunk, surly and suffer from poor penmanship.
-
Thats fine, it will be 2am where I am so I will probably be the same.
Thanks for the number Sarah.

I just posted an advert here: http://www.cheapshotposse.com/ (http://www.cheapshotposse.com/)

Shovel.com gave it a plug, too.

Sweet! More hipster $$$ to WFMU!
-
I didn't get a chance to listen to the marathon show last week, but boy was a in rapt attention tonight (with credit card in hand).
Kick ass.
I get the feeling that with an additional hour, we could have topped 60k....
-
Great stuff tonight. Ben's Porcupine Pie was amazing.
-
Actually Ben won me over with that great rendition of Love Comes Tomorrow by The Monkees a personal favorite of mine

May My Show Succeed

SSD sounds like high school radio. I'm going to write the station manager about such me-me-me antics.

Oh whotta night.
Question: Tom thanked someone for videotaping the show. Was there a live video feed I was unaware of, or is it something that might be released at a later date?
-
Check out the WFMU Blog for video! (http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2008/03/ted-leo-ben-gib.html)

I totally got Prize Envy from this show.
Tom, I'll give you fifty bucks if you can get me one of nem Tetes Lourdes CDs. I'm serious.

I think Tetes Lourdes should still be available here:

Thanks for the link, Chris. I still have my copy that I downloaded a few months ago, but hearing Tom give away the CD made me hungry for the real deal.
Tom, allow me to amend my offer - for one Tetes Lourdes CD, I will give you fifty (50) dollars, plus a platter of baked goods. Needless to say, the baked goods will be tailored to your specificities.
-
Jonesy is gunning for Tom today. Will he and X-Ray snatch the Kid's trophy from his hands before it's even had a chance to tarnish? He's sure going to try.
-
Not a chance. Also the transmitter went down and they've been off air for 20 minutes.
I feel sorry for them.
-
I know, I do to. Ken must be going particularly nuts right now. This really sucks.
-
Yeah, pretty bad timing on that. Hopefully folks will switch over to the internet stream.

Uh oh! Rare Sarah grammar error! The sky is falling!
-
Just a typo, but I'm still blushing. (Actually, I've been noticing that more and more often these days I'm typing homophones by mistake. Worse, I frequently omit negatives and the "-ing" from my gerunds. It's very disturbing. I blame it on my great age and on the fact that I've been sleeping extremely poorly lately. Got up at 5:30 [i.e., 4:30, in effect] this morning after going to be at midnight, and I've been functioning on far too little sleep for days now. I'm going to be exhausted by the end of the Hoof and Mouth's performance. Whine whine whine.)
-
The radio station appears to be functioning again, and Glen Jones got a $5000 pledge in the closing minute from an undisclosed source. Nice!
-
Yes, that was lovely. Did you hear the total, sparks? I was feeding the ravening hordes when X-ray announced it.
-
I can't remember exactly what the total was, but I think it was around $34K.
-
Keep it up FMU. No matter the setbacks, they soldier on. Volunteers or not, WFMU DJs are hardened pros.
It's only my 3rd year of following the Marathon, but the final Sunday is always a nail-biter. It's killing me that I can't afford to pledge any more but I'm tapped out. Here's hoping all the wafflers & procrastinators step up by the final hour. C'mon George Soros, how about sending a few thousand their way?
-
I understand Pillsbury has an offer on the table

Yeah, they've had some setbacks this year, between Nachum missing his last couple of fundraising shows due to his father's loss and the radio signal going out today during the Glen Jones show, but they're not giving up. They're getting close. I hope they make it.
-
not to mention, one less hour than usual
-
Apparently JM in the AM is going to do a mini-marathon at the end of next week (3/26 - 3/28) to make up the missed days, so it looks like there's a good chance the station will make its fundraising goal.
-
Beyond a good chance, I'd say. JM in the AM can make $19,000 in three days with its hands tied behind its back, and in the circs the listeners are likely to be even more generous.
