Anybody planning on going to either of the NY area appearances in April? I think I'm gonna catch the one in Hoboken as it is closer for me. If there are going to be multiple FOT there, we should, you know, say hi or something.
-
I'll go out on a limb and say Tom might be at the Hoboken show.

I'll go out on a limb and say Tom might be at every show.
-
Forrest, if I'm in town I'll go. When are they?
-
I've got tickets for both the hoboken and the brooklyn show.
-
I'll be at the Southpaw show in Brooklyn. If anyone wants to grab a beer, I'll wear a top hat or something so you know it's me.

I'm pretty sure the Hoboken show is 4/24, JG. I'd love to buy a round for you and Brian and whoever else (within reason).
-
Sounds cool. Southpaw is walking distance from me, but I'll truck it out to Hoboken if it means meeting FOT.
-
I can go to Hoboken if anyone wants to make a Night On The Town out of this. Hell, it's probably faster for me to get to Hoboken then Park Slope.
-
Let's do it!
-
I will brave the street-fighting fraternities of Hoboken to do this. Word is bond.

I'm in.

I'm going to the Hoboken show!
-
This has the kind of wings to qualify as an unofficial Best Show meet-up.
-
By the time this show actually rolls around a month from now, this will probably become an organized bus trip. How good a driver is Tom? Can he maneuver those wide right turns?

I'll probably miss that one but I'll catch other FOTs at the show in Boston. Middle East anyone?

It's a maybe for me, but I've been super lame about seeing any shows

Hey Forrest, Jason, et. al: you think it'll sell out? Ticketweb is charging $5 for a service fee. It's worth it to guarantee I get in, but otherwise I'd rather just get it at the door.
-
JG, I will be in Hoboken o'er the weekend. I can grab you a ticket and you can pay me back whenever, if that works for you.
-
Sure, that would be awesome - I could pay you through Morgan A. or at the show. Thanks, buddy!
-
Hey now. Last night's show was spectacular, but I didn't see anyone familiar. Grote? Either way, I was trying to lay low. Tonight I'll be in a more social mood. Who's going to Southpaw?
-
Big Dipper, Great Plains, plus Antietam! I remain seriously excited.
How about that drummer for Great Plains last night? That guy effing brought it.
-
I was at the Hoboken show. It was hands-down amazing. Tom also pulled my mustache. I'm pretty sure he wanted to pull it off.
I have a ticket to the Southpaw show tonight that is going to be unused. If anyone wants it, let me know. We'll work something out. First come, first served.

Oh, Grote was there, bro'in down with yours truly. Awesome show.
-
Yeah, I was there. It was a really terrific show. My ears are still ringing and I'm feeling pretty good about getting older, after seeing how Great Plains and Big Dipper could still bring the rock so impressively.
Sorry to miss you, Neil/Brian and Spoony. I got to meet the Kid and the lovely Jillian Barberie, both of whom were even nicer and more awesome than I expected, which is pretty nice and awesome, as my expectations were already pretty high.
-
Ah, that sucks. I shoulda kept my eye out. I was so into seeing them and getting a good spot (next to the speakers, and my ears are shot today) Grote, going tonight? I owe you a drink for your helpfulness a month back... Ill be wearing my camo hat, unless I lose it somewhere between now and the show. Then you'll never know which one I am!
-
Aw, that's too bad. It would have been great to meet you. Are Big Dipper at Southpaw tonight? It's a distant possibility if I can talk my wife into it - I feel like I could watch them play every night - but we're seeing Fiery Furnaces tomorrow, and I don't know if my constitution (or my poor eardrums) are up to three consecutive shows.
Also, I forgot to mention that we saw Gregory there. And hanging out with Forrest was a blast. If anyone is looking for someone to hang out with, I highly recommend him.

The Maxwell's show was great! Thanks for your part in pulling that together, Tom. If the FOT whose 'stache was pulled by Tom is who I'm thinking about seeing the other night, I wanted to tug on that myself. Awesome mustache!
-
Thanks. I hope no one else there had a big mustache. I have a competition in me over that kind of thing.
-
I bought tickets for Maxwell's in February and was really excited about going.
Unfortunately, I had an interview Friday morning and had to get my shit together.
It was a bummer to miss out. It took me a couple days to come on here and read
about how great the show was. Glad it was awesome.
There's always next time. Right? (someone please say yes)
-
Thanks. I hope no one else there had a big mustache. I have a competition in me over that kind of thing.
I do have quite a formidable handlebar that I keep for my other job as a leather-daddy.

For those unable to attend the Brooklyn Southpaw show, mp3 of the show (and uncompressed FLAC files) are available here:
http://www.nyctaper.com/?p=166
If any are concerned about any possible impropriety, the website states:
Merge Records is also primarily responsible for the existence of this recording. With their forward-looking and web-friendly approach, Merge representatives were extremely courteous to nyctaper, secured permission from the band, and gave us list access. As a result, we arrived early at the venue and set up in the ideal location at Southpaw — in the dead center of the rail area with a 30 foot direct line to the PA and above the crowd. This recording reflects that excellent position, and we proud of its superior quality. Enjoy!
If any are looking for other live mp3 blogs, look to this earlier thread:

Thank you Matthew S for bringing this to our attention. That was one fantastic show, even better than the one at Maxwell's. And I'm pretty sure I can hear myself singing along to The Younger Bums ("THE YOUNGER BUMS!!!") at one point.
