*INSERT DODDY JOKE*

Supercaller status must be like any award or accolade -- you need to always be angry about someone not being included or else it's not worth it. Look at those baseball nerds who spend time arguing about the Hall of Fame.

"Look at those baseball nerds who spend time arguing about the Hall of Fame. "   Like you don't honestly believe that Andre Dawson should be in the Hall of Fame?

Another option is to donate a new wing to the Scharpling Library Armory in Neptune City, NJ. Perhaps a trust could be set up, or a hedge fund or two could be liquidated for the cause, hmmm?

I kid. Laurie is tops. She's putting in the time.

 Neptune City, NJ?

Wise up, son, this isn't Tropical Fish Hobbyist Magazine.

On that topic, Herbert Axelrod is a total piece of shit, one of New Jersey's most nefarious characters.

Fuck you, Herbie. Google Herbert Axelrod. You'll see.

I googled Herbert Axelrod like you said and I'm still confused.  I get who he is (and remember reading something about it in 2005 or so) and I know that, you, Stan, work in the tropical fish world.

But whuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut?

Maybe I'm just a big dummy.

Sorry to get off topic everybody, I'll try to be brief.

For starters, this is a page of links to numerous articles about his tax evasion and fucking over the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra:

http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/a/herbert_r_axelrod/index.html (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/a/herbert_r_axelrod/index.html)

But what bothers me the most is what he's done to the aquarium publishing world. In the 1950s he plagiarized the work of William Innes and effectively put him out of business. You can read all about that, here:

http://www.fritz-reuter.com/articles/starledger/alifeofmoneyandmyths.htm (http://www.fritz-reuter.com/articles/starledger/alifeofmoneyandmyths.htm)

Beyond that, Axelrod's company TFH bought Tetra Press Publications in the 1990s and decided to take the majority of their titles off the market, probably because they were better books. The remaining inventory of these books were in  large shipping container that he had hauled out to a parking lot where they were hosed down with water before being returned to a warehouse. Herb then filed an insurance claim that stated they were destroyed in a fire sprinkler malfunction. When asked why he didn't just sell the books, he said "Why would I sell books that compete with my own?". This was from personal communication with a former TFH employee (the guy who asked the previous question). Congratulations everybody, you just learned a dirty little industry secret about Herb getting away with insurance fraud.

The guy really is an egomaniac and a douchebag of the old school.

For the record: I like Stan. I first met him in 1985 or 1986. Good dude, talented musician.

But Wowie Zowie, that was a thoroughly whiplash-inducing thread detour. Obviously there's some bad blood there.

I would go as far as to say it was an LB.

Bottom line, don't mention Neptune City, NJ around me. Seriously though, I never met the guy, I just hate what he did to the aquarium segment of the publishing world. That and his whole 'no matter how much money I have I will always need more and will fuck over anyone or anything to get it' attitude.

The only lid blowing thing in that post was the insurance fraud, everything else was documented in the links provided. I didn't want anyone to think I was talking out of my ass.

I think there's a book in this for you, Stan.  The cut-throat aquarium racket revealed!  Get cracking.

Or at least a quirky indie comedy. I'd watch a movie about the shenanigans of the aquarium segment of the publishing world.

There should be Superposters, too.

I nominate Sarah.

My post count is a source of shame more than pride for me, No Underbites.  Thanks, though.

Sarah holds it down, no question.  Absolutely a Superposter! I second the nomination.
