Yesterday at work we were talking about the powerball and what we would do with gobs of money etc. etc. But we stumbled across a fun discussion: If you could pay any band one million dollars to play your backyard/basement apartment who would it be? After much thought I said Daft Punk (and no it was not inspired by the LCD Sound System song) because I don't think I'll ever get a chance to see them live, it would be an instant party and you get a lot of show for the money.
Anyone have any dream shows?

Rush. The co-host on my podcast is Canadian and I give him a hard time. He H A T E S Rush with a passion, where as I, having grown up white trash in Wisconsin in the 70s/80s find them amusing. I'd throw a birthday party for him and he would have no recourse but to finally admit his love for his countrymen.

Tom Waits

Husker Du
I'd also have Greg Norton cater the thing.

RADIOHEAD.
Seeing them live in Charlotte May 9. I tried to see them a few years ago in Centerville, VA but got RAINED OUT.
My choice for this question is ca. 1984 REM.

this site (http://www.main-stageproductions.com/music) for a production company actually gives you a bunch of bands' prices... albeit just bands that do college tours. so i guess you could put together a whole music/comedy festival with that million dollars.

like Ted Leo's Reggae Weekend

I was on my way to that same show when we had to turn around and go home.

Aphex Twin, Screeching Weasel, Ween, GBV quadruple header.

A Diamonda Galas/Mike Patton show may be worth dropping $1,000,000 on, if I had enough millions that I wouldn't miss that million.

I would pay Rancid.
What they don't know is that the "stage" is actually at the bottom of a tank that will slowly fill with water while the invited party members dine upon a platform high above.

I would pay Rancid.
We saw Rancid at the Reading Festival a few years back, and afterwards my mate Simon said, "Unless Wheatus is Portuguese for 'whiny shite-hawks', never has a band been more appropriately named."
That sentence has stuck with me.

Me, too - we were halfway there. Somewhat interestingly, we ate lunch at one of the restaurants where the real-life DC snipers would kill someone a little later.

ABBA
In 2000 ABBA were reported to have turned down an offer of approximately US$1,000,000,000 (one billion US dollars) to do a reunion tour consisting of 100 concerts. (Source (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1424667/20000202/abba.jhtml)).

I'm going to say Devo. Good Devo, not bad Devo.

pavement. but i'd also need a flux capacitor because i think i'd rather see them in the 90s
more likely, i'd hit TL with a mil if he'd come and hang out with me for a weekend and play an awesome show.
