Title: Navigating London
Post by: Susannah on March 19, 2008, 02:16:10 PM
I'm going to visit my brother in London in about a week and am trying to figure out how to get from Heathrow to his place in the Clerkenwell neighborhood.  I'm pretty good with the Tube once I figure out where I'm going, but I'm not sure of the exact location of Clerkenwell.  Can someone help?

Also--where do you get on the Tube from Heathrow?  It's been about 8 years since I've done it.

Thanks!

Heathrow has its own Tube. Just hop on it and let the adventures begin!

Here's my moment to shine!

At the airport, look for the signs for the Tube. Get on that and take the Picadilly Line into the city. You'll be on it for at least an hour or so because Heathrow is way out.

Kings Cross St Pancras is on the Picadilly line, and that's pretty close to C'well, but you might want to check to  see what the nearest station to your brother is. Chances are, you'll have to change at Kings Cross anyway.

Chancery Lane should be your stop, its on the central line. Either change at Holborn or walk from Holborn if you don't have much stuff.

If you're staying around there I totally recommend -

Black Friar pub, one of the few remaining Victorian pubs that retains its original interior.

The Soane's Museum, a pretty crazy place.

Have a walk around Temple.

All within walking distance.

Thanks guys!  I can buy some Jaffa cakes and mail them to you, if you'd like.

Bring back a cask of "real ale" -- it should fit within the overhead compartment.  Thanks!

I love John Soane!  Sure, some architects I really hate cite him as influences, but he himself is awesome.  Have you seen the documentary about it?  So awesome.

I'm actually going to be holding court in Scotch Plains from the 21st-30th (splitting my time between NY, Philly and the Scotchwood Diner) and in London from the 31st until April 6th. If anyone in those places wants to have a mock meetup, I'm there!

Go and see Malcolm Middleton at Union Chapel on April 2nd. It's in Islington, close to where you'll be.

And Malky is GREAT.
