Was it any good. I was always intrigued, but never watched. Now they're available of Bluray for under $30 for the whole series.
-
I never saw it but I'm going to say that it probably wasn't any good.
-
I have friends (non-potheads and potheads alike) who swear by it, but I've never seen more than the first two-three episodes, when it first aired. Maybe I didn't give it a fair chance.
-
It was mildly entertaining, but I wouldn't spend any money on it.
-
Did it get cancelled? I watched the first and second season on DVD but never watched the 3rd. I liked the first season and thought the second season was just ok. Under 30 dollars for 3 seasons? I'd buy that.
-
I watched season one and while it wasn't heinous, I wasn't really that impressed by it. It's one of those shows whose whole premise would collapse if the characters involved utilized even the tiniest bit of rational thought.
-
I rented Season One & Two and thought they were pretty good.
The theme song is annoying as hell, though.
interesting: I just checked imdb to see who does that "little boxes" song, and found that Pixie Joey Santiago did some of the original music for the first season.
rent it, don't buy it.
Update: It didn't occur to me how Indie-tastic the music for this show is. You got your Mountain Goats, your Gib Benson, your Decemberists and all sorts of others popping up.

I watched disc 1 of season 1 and thought it was very very contrived and didn't bother with the rest of them.
-
They also used "Who Knows" by Marion Black, which was an unexpected surprise. It's one of my favorite songs ever but not something I expected to hear on a TV show.
-
it's not bad. i'd say watch it online. don't buy it. but it is kind of entertaining. the thing that kind of bothered me was that Nancy's iced coffee was always almost empty. still had some in there, but always at the same almost-empty level. which, if you watch the whole series over the course of a week or two, will stick out as odd. we never see her when it's full. why couldn't they just fill it up a little more?

Continuity.

ah, well variety's good too.

he thing that kind of bothered me was that Nancy's iced coffee was always almost empty.
It drove me nuts that she was constantly clutching an extremely large beverage container of one sort or the other. And I got mighty sick of the way she'd suck on the straw and look winsomely up at people. All in all, I grew extremely tired of Mary-Louise Parker's cute little ways.

To be fair, Sarah, I have a strong feeling that you are on the extreme left side of the curve in terms of patience for cute little ways, no?
-
I liked Mary Louise Parker in that show but it was her kids, especially Silas that made me cringe. I thought Celia and Doug were great characters. Maybe living in the suburbs my whole life and having aunts exactly like some of the council women makes me like it more.

Actually, it depends on the cute little ways in question. I'm not knee-jerk anticute.
I believe this is my 2000th post. God help me.
edit: Apparently it isn't. That milestone came and went unnoticed.

The show is like Paste Magazine coming to life. Heinous. Well, for me at least.

I've been packing (or trying to pack) all my stuff to move in a week and since Thursday I don't think I've been without a coffee cup in my hand. I feel like Nancy... they're starting to recognize me at the Starbucks down the street...
Has anyone else been watching season 4? I love it in all it's ridiculous glory. Celia is a delicious trainwreck. And Esteban? Oh my. Demian Bichir is fantastic in so many ways.

I wasn't a big fan of s3, but this season has been much stronger. Celia loves her Mexican marching powder!
-
Yes, thank goodness someone agrees with me. Season 4 is the best since early Season 1.
1 > 4 > 2 > 3. If you are following along with the show on DVD, SKIP SEASON 3, and you can even think about skipping season 2. It's a depressing mess. You just watch Nancy get her ass kicked over and over and over and over and over. Read a recap.
Season 4 has been a lot more fun, though if you'd described it to me beforehand I would have rolled my eyes.
-
I liked season 3 but didn't like season 2.... well I liked season 2 enough to keep watching.
-
If you're going to skip season 3, make you at least catch PFT's appearance as a super religious summer school teacher.
I agree about season 3, but Romany Malco is always great. I've only seen the first 3 episodes of season 4 and I miss Doug and Conrad and Heylia.
-
I liked the the show. My ladyfriend and I burn through the seasons when they come out on dvd.
Ick, that sounds like a stoner pun. I should say that we shoot through them. Yeeeeah. You know what I mean.

This is exactly what I've been telling everyone about why I've grown tired of Bush and Cheney.
-
I wasn't crazy about Season 1 but I've been watching Season 2 online because I'm stuck in Louisville for a week on business and I don't have much else to do. Maybe it has to do with those circumstances, but I'm enjoying 2 much more than I did 1.

Come on, Fido. I bet when Dick Cheney looks up at you through his eyelashes while sucking on his iced coffee you still can't resist him.

Doug shows up big time.
-
I admit that is took half a season for the series to really get momentum. But I try not to hold any series accountable to the first couple of episodes while it's trying to find it's rhythm.
-
Oh man but Albert Brooks was so funny!
And, even if a season of it isn't so great (I think they were all pretty good) it's only a half hour show so you're not wasting THAT much time with it. Season 4 is definitely worth it.
-
I'm pretty razzed for 4
Celia is my totem. If I took a Spirit Quest in the desert, after three days of fasting hallucinogens, Celia would appear to me and kick sand in my face and tell me get up and lose weight.
