I was gonna make some joke about wishing that Ziggy had been sent over there sooner, but then I felt ashamed for even thinking it.  Oh wait - this isn't FOTchan?  SHIT!

I love the way every soldier in the preview is a waspy white guy, because there certainly aren't any black people in OUR army.

Yes, I'm sure you won't see a single black face in this Simon/Burns production.

I still can't believe they didn't cast Omar Epps as McNulty.

It ruins the ending of Oz for me to know that Beecher gets out and gets sent to Nam Iraq.

Premieres this Sunday!

These character-profile promos are VERY promising.  I for one am prepared for absolute TV excellence.
I'm also prepared to cry, throw shit at the screen, and over-post in this thread.

Combined with the formal announcement of Treme (http://blog.nola.com/davewalker/2008/07/hbo_sets_drama_series_in_treme.html), this is a damn fine week for those of us who TheWireTheWireTheWire. (http://www.friendsoftom.com/forum/index.php/topic,1160.0.html)

It's all about carefully measuring your emotions and then expressing those feelings through the size of words.

You're welcome, influential playwright Jason Grote.

Do you mean Augustus Hill?  I haven't watched Lost but I know Harrold Perrineau is on it - - did  Adewale Akinnouye-Agbaje also make an appearance?

Or are we having a culturally awkward moment?   :) ;D :o

Yes, he was a recurring character for about a season and a half.

Generation Kill starts tonight!
It should prove to be one Paul Thomas Wall-E iPhone3G of a mini-series.

Can't wait.

You forgot to work Radiohead into there.

I can't wait to see this, but since I don't have cable I guess it'll have to be when it's released on DVD. Let us know how it is!

I wonder if Tom has it DVR'd?

Not bad not bad. I thought the writing of the first 10 minutes was pretty cheesed out, but it cleaned itself up a bit. Turned out better than I thought it would.

Well, Erika, I thought it was every bit as awesome as I predicted.

I look forward to several pages of glowing FOT praise once AP Mike and others have seen it. (Cough (http://thepiratebay.org/tor/4294429/Generation.Kill.S01E01.HDTV.XviD-0TV))

Where did they get all those Humvees for filming. Isn't there a war on?

Wow... I really liked the first episode.  I'm not sure if it helps my credibility any with my arty friends, but I'm a big fan of war films and miniseries, and Generation Kill definitely has potential to be pretty great.  The reporter/unit dynamic as well its frankness and ambiguity about the war remind me a little of my favorite WWII movie Das Boot.

One thing that worries me though is that I could see this series getting a little heavy handed with the exploration of society etc. and 2003 pop culture references... though I could give that a pass being that this era in history would be nothing without our pop culture references. but it definitely has more than its share of subtle and devastating moments.

In short, I think this is going to be no less than 'The Wire' and 'Band of Brothers' wrapped in awesomeness.

I thought it was a great start, lived up to what I was looking for. Kind of loved the radio talk over the end credits. The only downside to the whole thing was having to see a hundred Entourage promos before it started and those pretty awful skits for the vampire show coming on in the fall.

I'd like to hear from everyone who didn't like it so I can start forming grudges as soon as possible. Also, if you could list shows that you like so I can start putting together lists of what is wrong with them, that would be super. Thanks!

I just hope that at some point one of the marines proclaims "It's all in the game, son!"

That, or maybe some mention of lake trout. Then I'll be happy with it.

POLICE THAT MOOSTACHE!

That guy needs to set up recruitment booths at Black Lips shows across the country.

This episode was a really good start, and it can only get better with more Collichio and more suburban MD shout-outs.

I thought tonight was pretty intense. Is that city a set a la Full Metal Jacket or did they find that location somewhere? I'm definitely enjoying this series, but imagining it without Ziggy makes it seem like it would be unwatchable. And I'm not even a huge Ziggy fan, it's just that none of the other characters have really developed personalities yet. Not very interesting ones at least. The guy with the white man complex, that shit's just trite. Maybe there was someone really like that, but it's completely uninteresting. And the kid in the backseat with the reporter, it seemed like in the first episode they were setting him up to be the scared, weak one, but this episode he had the weird bloodlust.

Anyway, despite my complaints, I'm liking this. I thought the "battle" scenes were excellent.

really enjoying the interplay between ray and brad.
higher ups being incompetent and glory-hungry, who knew?
it's a really great show thus far.
