Listening to this now.  Charming.  Really sums up why free-form radio is awesome.

I wonder if those girls are as excited as I am about the new Portishead album.

I haven't heard Teenage Girl Night in years, but I remember it was one of the first I ever heard and I thought it was pretty awesome.

They should have a reunion.  I think they're my age.  I want to meet them.

Agreed.  The new Portishead material that I've heard is excellent.

I have been listening to this episode instead of doing the teenage girl things I have to do this weekend, like homework. And I think it is super awesome. I even made two little drawings! The first one is what the teen girls say Tom looks like, and the second is what Tom says he looks like.

I'm sure there are better ways for me to be spending my time, but I can't really think of any.

I'm I being corny or is everything before 9-11 kind of bittersweet?

That's not corny at all. Hell, I almost misted up at the discovery that "Friends of Tom" was a term intially coined during the first post-9/11 show when it was decided that "Scharpling's Army" wouldn't seem appropriate anymore.

I hate that 9/11 defines my generation.  I hate it so much.

Just think of it all in the broader sense.  Our entire era is still within the shadow of WWII.

Considering that I was born in Germany to American soldiers, I wouldn't even exist if WWII hadn't happened.

I, too, felt it to be some compelling episodes. Hearing people being comforted by Tom during such a devastating experience really made the show feel a lot closer to my heart. (as if it wasn't close enough already.)

I'm a pretty new fan (about 2 months), but since then have delved into the archives and am listening to them all in order (with skips to a lot of the Wurster CD material).

Oddly, the teenage girls one is the one 'on deck' in my lineup.

And, being so familiar with 'Friends of Tom,' I was wondering what happened to this 'Tom's Army' thing he was talking about.

That WAS sad as I heard FOT being unveiled, simply weeks after the Army was announced.

In the end, though, FOT is better anyway.  Imagine my confusion in pondering (before understanding the 'acronym'), "WTF is FOTpedia?!?!"
