Title: Deadwood Appreciation Thread
Post by: Matt on April 08, 2008, 02:54:15 PM
It's been said before, but this show fucking rules. I started watching it a couple weeks ago, and I'm currently two episodes into Season 3. I still don't know for sure if I like it better than The Sopranos, but it's definitely more rewarding; I haven't even finished the series yet and I'm looking forward to going back to the beginning. What can I say? Mike was right.

I know Swearengen gets all the love, but my favorite character:

Thanks, Matt. I'm glad you're enjoying it. I also agree with your assessment of E. B. Farnum. He steals just about every scene he's in. E. B. is to Deadwood what Uncle Junior was to The Sopranos.

This quote is seared into my brain for eternity:

"My bicycle masters both boardwalk and quagmire with aplomb.  Those that doubt me suck cock by choice."

Oh, I did love listening to that show.  Seeing it, too, of course, but it was the sound that mattered.  I'm even tempted to buy the DVDs, and I don't do that kind of thing.

Favorite EB Farnum quote:

"August commencement to my administration, standing stymied outside a saloon next to a degenerate tit-licker."

Expert choices, gentlemen; I'll take either of these over "Shee-it" any day of the week.

I love Richardson and his heathen ways.

Another great quote from Deadwood: "I'm Larry, and this is my brother Daryl, and this is my other brother Daryl."

So many great characters on this show, but my favorite is a tie between Charlie Utter and Cy Tolliver.

I love Richardson and his heathen ways.

Two great Richardson-based quotes from Farnum:

"Avoid lookin' to your left if idolatry offends you."

"Could you have been born, Richardson, and not egg-hatched as I've always
assumed? Did your mother hover over you, snaggle-toothed and doting, as you now
hover over me?"

The fight scene between Dan Dority and Captain Turner is probably the best fight scene ever filmed.  I watched it like four times in a row.

Deadwood totally ruined True Grit for me. Probably not fair, but I couldn't help comparing the two while watching the movie - and Deadwood was so much better.

Besides Angels in America - Deadwood is the best TV I've seen.

Anyone who enjoyed this scene needs to listen to its commentary track on the DVD right away.

I think this is the most realistic 'fight' I've seen dramatized.  They are spent within seconds, like two big lunks (the way it would certainly be), and from there it's a free-for-all.  Utterly amazing--one of those "I remember the night I watched THAT one...." moments.

I think it was something to do with which one of them needed Atkins more.

What do we ever fight about?  Who gets to live and who gets to die.
