Title: KITH
Post by: ben on April 10, 2008, 11:17:36 PM
Anyone seeing them on the reunion tour?  I know they're a bit older and fatter but I still think it's cool.  Anyone going to one of the Madison, WI shows at the Barrymore?

I'm going to the DC show, hefty ticket-prices be damned.

I want to see them in L.A. but by now I'm assuming its probably sold out or way too expensive.  I feel like a moron cause I think I could've seen them way cheaper in L.A. a few years ago and just didn't get on the ball.

I saw both rounds of their LA shows and they were great.  New material was just as enjoyable to me as anything they've done.  Two thumbs up!

I saw that show in Seattle, and because of how great it was, I felt ok when I had to let this one go this time. Like I still had some left over or something. Did I make a mistake? Probably.

I didn't realize tickets were so expensive. I was thinking about going to the Mpls. show but if tickets are a lot I'm not going to be able to. I want to go see Todd Barry in May and there's no way I can afford both.

As a fan I have this nagging sense of obligation that I should try to make it to one of these shows.

But I probably shouldn't. I've already seen them during their 1st and 2nd reunion tours, as well as the new show they put on in Montreal last year (which I assume the new tour is based on). All of which were pretty pricey.

I've put in my time. I think I'll leave this to the younger generation to enjoy.

Dave was in "Girl Drink Drunk." How dar -- actually, no, he's probably the least essential (Brain Candy). Bruce is clearly the best.

Now, who has had the most disappointing post-KITH career?
1. Kevin
2. Bruce
3. Mark
4. Scott
5. Dave (would be #2 without NewsRadio)

Really?  All four of you like Bruce the best?  Is Petey getting all of you high?

1) Dave
2) Scott
3) Mark
4) Kevin
5) Bruce

Look, I love Bruce. I do!  Bruuuce.
He just happens to be the fifth funniest one, is all.

I used to think Bruce was the least funny, but now I think he's the best.  Dave is totally funny, you guys.  He just happens to be the most conventionally charming/funny and had the most "cross-over" appeal and Petey has an obvious case of normalphobia. The heavy-leg thing is the worst thing Dave ever did.  Who's the worst?  Without a doubt, it's gotta be Mark.  Not only did he do that "I'm a Cat" sketch, which is like the animal version of Billy Crystal's Blues Man.  Not to mention his blues man character, which is the Mark McKinney version of Billy Crystal's Blues Man.  Not only is he the least funny, he's also creepy.  His performance in Brain Candy is transcendant and awesome, but pound for pound he's the worst.

1. Bruce
2. Kevin
3. Dave
4. Scott
5. Mark

...or KicktheBobo's list works fine too.

1. Bruce (Favorite: Open Letter to the guy who stole my bike)
2. Kevin
3. Scott
4. Dave
5. Mark

Does Scott have an out of print standup album? I heard his standup on the Uncabaret and it was really funny. But, I can't find anything else other than that. I think I might have asked this before.

Not only is he the least funny, he's also creepy.

They're ALL creepy. That's a different list:

1) Mark
2) Kevin
3) Dave
4) Bruce
5) Scott

I'd also like to point out that the only reason Scott is second to last on my list is that I can't stand those Buddy sketches, but I'm not gay, so I guess I just don't get it.  He's actually pretty damn funny.  And yes, the least creepy out of all of them.

Scott is also responsible, if I understand correctly, for those terrible "teens gossiping on the phone" sketches (did those characters have names?).  They stick out because they're the most dated now, in 2008, and they just aren't that funny (to me).  But he was on The Larry Sanders Show, so all's forgiven.

I don't want to rank them, but I always loved Scott Thompson, including his Buddy character.  And his tired, middle-aged mom was inspired.

As for Mark McKinney, well, I really enjoy Slings and Arrows.

I think even Scott would disagree with you all that he's the least creepy.  Mark brilliantly used his creepiness to his advantage.  I love that character Darrell ("Daril!").

Oh yeah, Scott's right up there with Bruce in my mind. "Why Did They Have to Take the Word 'Gay'?" was one of my favorite sketches.

I still have my KITH tour shirt from... when was that? The late nineties? I think I might have been in eighth grade when I saw them. Maybe seventh. I'm not sure.

That was Mark!  FIVE YEAR BAN!!!

Incidentally, there's a sketch on A Bit of Fry and Lori that has that same premise.

Not to mention his blues man character, which is the Mark McKinney version of Billy Crystal's Blues Man.
In Mark's defense, I seem to remember that in the first one of the his "blues man" sketches, he breaks out of character at one point and acknowledges the fact that he is a white guy doing a racist caricature. I don't think Billy Crystal's character was ever that self-aware.

That's a good point.  And I guess that's the whole point of the sketch more or less.  But it's still painful to watch.

The KITH tour actually rolls through the venue I work at this weekend, so I've helped myself to a few comps. If somebody in the area wants to be my +1 for one of the shows, let me know ASAP.

Oh that is so very good. I've never wanted to see a sketch group reform for a television show more. Technical Mumble Jumble!

Not recommended! I've seen a lot of really unhappy kids that show up to concerts with fake tickets they bought on CL. Especially for a show like KITH, the good seats don't make much of a difference vs. the crappy ones.

Seeing them tomorrow (4/25) and pathetically alone.  Taking my change jar to the bank tomorrow to see if i have enough for a t-shirt if they have any and a small coke.  VERY exciting!

The show was amazing.  The coke got me really high, so that was pretty great too.
