I know it seems nonsensical
but its something thats been bothering me for years
-
Makes total sense. You're trying to figure out which gets you farther; saying "Chocolatey Choco, the Chocolate Chicken" (Busta Rhymes) or "Chickety China, the Chinese Chicken" (Barenaked Ladies)
-
My money's on Busta-Bus.
-
I doubt even a single member of the Barenaked Ladies has ever kicked Michael Myers out a window. Busta Rhymes in a blowout.
-
BUT, I bet Bare Naked Ladies can continue to play the college circuit for years to come, making truck-loads of dough doing that same "If I Had a Million Dollars" song over and over again, while Busta... where's he gonna be? What's he gonna be doing? I'm not suggesting I know the answer, but in terms of an ongoing "career," college/jam bands have got it made in the shade.

I think Canadians would mostly give the nod to the Barenaked Ladies.

This album cover may have foreshadowed Busta's career dominance of the Ladies (I can't comment on his dominance of ladies elsewhere). Look how scared the red-shirted dork is of the guy with dreads.

I have a confession to make: I was the first person to play "If I Had a Million Dollars" on WMEB, the station at U. Maine, Orono. And I thought it was cute.

if I get someone outside of my head to say it
I know I'm not that crazy.

I had no idea Adam Duritz, Roger Ebert and that one dude from The Last Supper were in the Barenaked Ladies!
One of my favorite Sopranos quotes, courtesy of Meadow: "Let me grab the Barenaked Ladies CD."
Yes, the quote I love so much, I paraphrased the hell out of it.

I bet you're really sad you missed this (http://shipsanddip.com/index2.htm):

I'm pretty sure that's Steve Albini in the lower left.

I thought it was Elvis Costello.

I thought it was Jello Biafra.

Is it good or bad that their doing the cruise? I remember it used to be a joke when people set up shop in Las Vegas
now its a good thing (??)
I know nothing about show business
but doesn't it seem way more fun to play out a cruise all loose goose-y
than having to be playing out bars or booze-y college shows.

One of the guys from the barenaked ladies used to live down the street from us (he was a nice guy! I got a scooter for christmas (I was like 10) and he cleared off the sidewalk so I could ride around) and he said that people used to throw boxes of kraft dinner at them while they were onstage as a gesture of affection.
So what does it say about their relative career bigness that they have that and (I think) Busta doesn't? I feel this should be introduced into the discussion as an important point to consider.

Busta's gonna die in a 'roid rage accident anyway.

What happened to him, anyway? He used to have a sense of humor.

His story is basically the story of the 2nd generation of rap kids
with his 1st group LONS (leaders of the new school) it was all kind of fun

The De La Soul influence is evident....the second album from them was even called T.I.M.E (the inner minds eye) very DAISY AGE. That was style of that age ...to be kind of fun, clever if a bit over reaching.
As the years rolled on Busta changed with the times, for the worse. His first solo album came and here was rougher guy plenty of 5% nonsense, lots of weed and gun talk but still clever and fun enough to make him stick out from the pack and even spawn a few imitators.

By the 2nd album rap had totally degenerated and all the fun and cleverness was stripped out to leave
cliche after cliche

When I was in middle school in Buffalo in the very early 90s, Barenaked Ladies were ginormous locally. I remember they did an in-store at a record store that I saw in like 1993 and I vivdly recall there were signs all over the shop and at the entrance reading "NO KRAFT DINNERS".
As far as Busta goes, I always had a soft spot for the video for "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See", what with all the freaky glowing facepaint and fisheye lens tracking shots and whatnot.
Has nobody else suggested to obvious at this point - Why don't these two sterling artists get together for a collabo project? It can be kinda like that Jay-Z/Linkin Park album. That was pretty good, right?
Wait, whuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut?
-
I loved LONS, especially the first album. International Zone Coaster!
-
The Barenaked Ladies easily. They will always have student run radio stations and gas station satellite radio.

I learned it for humorous use, but I can recite all the rapping in the chickety-china song (well, probably not any more). I also do the chorus to Informer (again, probably not any more).
