Title: Still Like Radiohead?
Post by: Dorvid Barnas on May 11, 2008, 02:04:32 AM
Tom!

I was reading your Gothamist interview (http://gothamist.com/2006/06/15/tom_scharpling.php) from a couple years ago and got a good laugh out of your Radiohead shout-out:  "Who can't get onboard that train? Hey, everybody, there's a band you might want to check out. It's called Radiohead."

I also remember you playing "Pyramid Song" on the show, which I think is their very best song, edging out "Let Down", "National Anthem", and "There There".

Do you still like them?  Any thoughts on Hail to the Thief or In Rainbows? (the music, not the business model)

I'm not Tom, but...

I saw them live for the first time Friday night in Charlotte.  It was by far the best concert I've ever seen.

The new stuff is amazing live, and they're right at that point where they have enough albums to make for great mix-and-match shows but not so many big, well-known songs that it takes a whole concert to play just the "hits" (REM, Pink Floyd).

I saw them last night, and I agree with Buffcoat that it was the best show I've ever seen, even if it was in the worst weather, traffic, and venue imaginable. (http://quarterlifeparty.blogspot.com/2008/05/radiohead-at-nissan-pavilion-apocalypse.html)

Thanks again to Josh for the ticket!  You're a god!

And they played Pyramid Song!

For me, it was worth eating $100 to stay home and not deal with that clusterfudge. Assuming I wouldn't have been turned away at the gate, there's no way I would've enjoyed it w/ my pitiful lawn tickets.  Guess I'm not a hardcore Radioheadhead (EDIT:  make that definitely not).

Still never seen this band; the last time I had tickets was the cancelled '01 show where the stage sunk.

I was supposed to be at that show, too!  We got more than halfway there from NC and had to turn around.

Side note: We ended up eating at the Ponderosa restaurant where, a little later, the DC snipers (not the band) shot and killed somebody.
