I don't know what's more shocking, what Tom said or what Spike said.

I missed the show tonight. The archive can't be posted soon enough.

Damn, sounds like I missed an action-packed show. I guess I'll find out for sure once I listen on the archives, but can I assume these changes were in response to that mutant's "Someone needs to write JW some new material" post?

In future, I'll have to ensure that I have no further Tuesday night events.

It's true, Steve. It's part of a wide variety of changes Tom is making. We call it The New Regime and it's here to STAY.

Abba Box, Supercallers, Spike... all gone. W's and L's... BACK!

It's a new world.

Wow.
I stopped listening about an hour in because I had a bunch of homework to do and I figured it would be a nice treat to have the podcast later in the week.
But there's something on the general discussion board about the cbc? Did I make the wrong decision entirely? What did I miss????

Also, Ben, it is hilarious that you thought my name was Gwen or Gail.. Hilarious in a good way!

Dave, you will always be a Super Caller. Even if you're not, you know, a supercaller. Plus, think about it--for about ten seconds you were a part of a club that Spike was also a member of. Enjoy your new freedom.

I am taking the following delusional stance; Tom had to clear out the SuperCaller's lounge and executive washroom to make way for the new Hall of Champions, of which I WILL be a member.

I, for one, believe that change is a good thing and a natural part of The Best Show. But W's and L's frighten me. Go back and listen to the last couple of shows before W's and L's were banished. It was like living in Myanmar.

But maybe reinstating W's and L's is the right thing, like putting the whole show on notice? Maybe W's and L's, if used intermittently and in moderation, can be a positive catalyst for change?

Can't wait to get into last night's archive...

I think its funny, cause I've been listening for a while on the podcast and am going through the archives while at work.  Last weeks show was one of my favorites by far and convinced me to sign up for the message board and to listen live to this weeks show only to have everything change...   but you know what?

This show was fantastic too!

I will say this and try to let it go.

Even though I know the designation was hung on me arbitrarily, it was one of the most fun things in my life in a long time. I have the poster framed and mounted in my office; it never fails to provoke a question or laugh.

Just as it was awarded arbitrarily, it was taken in the same way, a result I thought would come much earlier (I even commented on air one night about worrying when Lucy/Tom would pull the ball out from in front of me,) but now that it's happened, I gotta admit, my mood is dark. I will get over it, but more days like this I do not want to go through.

Many people here sure have been kind about it, though, so that's a start back. Now me and Andre 3000 are going to go have dinner.

I'm just happy to listen to the show and call and talk to Tom most weeks...

I'm a little sad about losing the title, but it would have been worse if I had lost it during a GOMP or if I'd heard Tom get disgusted with one of my calls. Then I'd really be feeling all:

Really?

Not that I've listened to those shows recently, but I remember being sure that Tom was going to pull the plug on the whole show some nights. An "L" would be so severe--in Tom's mind, anyway--that it just began to dominate the show in, what seemed to me --I was a new listener at the time--to be a really unproductive way.

I just said Myanmar to be topical.

the loss of abba box is the hardest blow, as far as i'm concerned. not just because i like abba and hearing the songs, but mostly because i will miss tom talking to abba box as if it's a dear friend.

I am entertaining a theory that the Abba Box broke it off with Tom after it got a gander at the grandeur that is Zachary Brimstead.

DFK, I think I heard your heart break on the air last night...you were completely side swiped. Think of it as a new beginning. Besides, Tom gave you a lot of leeway that wouldn't be afforded to just any caller. You're a supercaller in our hearts and minds! Same for Erika and Paycheck!

Also, if I got a copy of your book, would you sign it for me?!

Thanks Sarah, I've been there in spirit every show I've missed.

MOS - The brief explanation is that my computer died and I'm currently using a friend's generously loaned Wii to connect to the web. It's just limited enough that I can't stream or listen to archive. I actually just got some good news about borrowing another generous friends laptop, so hopefully I can catch up a bit.

Well, I managed to join last night's broadcast about half way in, then later that night, I listened on the Archives.

I nearly cried when John Lithgow forced Harry the Sasquatch to flee into the woods at the end of Harry and the Hendersons.

I DID cry when Tom forced the ABBA Box to flee the WFMU station.  Tom ... ABBA Box ... I'm nothing special ... In fact, I'm a bit of a bore ...

Usually I start listening to the most recent archive a few days after it airs and then savor it in bits and pieces throughout the week, anticipating the next triumphant return. Tonight I couldn't help listening to the whole thing all at once, and now it just feels like I'm waiting for the results of a herpes test. I hate the new regime already!

I do have faith that Tom has a master plan, he's always had one so far. I know that soon I'll no longer have to imagine DFK and Erica going through their weeks with a pall over them, each bearing a new vacancy in their souls that nobody else will ever understand. I can see a day ahead when the thought of Spike the Supercaller will only be a distant memory, and we will all be supping at the honey pot once again. The third act MUST come, I know, but this second act tension has already changed the entire flavor of my week. I think I just didn't know how good we had it!

If it helps any Tom, I'm truly repentant for not doing what I could to prevent this happening, however little. Lesson learned? It's too late, isn't it?

THIS WEEK IN REGIME CHANGE

"U.S. Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad exchanged sharp words with the Russian ambassador on Sunday, accusing Moscow of seeking "regime change" in Georgia and resisting attempts to make peace after days of fighting have left hundreds of civilians dead."
