Title: Bill from Consolidated Cardboard
Post by: Matt on May 14, 2008, 03:30:07 AM
In the hopes of bringing a little positivity to the boards, can I say how much I loved this bit?

I laughed as hard at Peter Benchley's White Album autograph as anything in my entire life. The whole thing was great, but the delivery and back-and-forth in the last five minutes was impeccable. Bill's defeated "Yups" were AMAZING.

Bob Spleen got served.

another great call that proves spleen doesn't know what he's talking about. i work in a lab, and from this point forward, whenever i have to get rid of a sensitive document, i shall call it 'shredding the reams'.

I feel like that whole bit was a specific response to Spleen's complaint.  He complained that they use the same jokes over and over, and they did a whole bit that was one joke: Tom calling out this guys ridiculous lies.  AND THEY MADE IT HILARIOUS!!!

They are geniuses.  I missed a bunch of the beginning, but I liked what I heard of this episode a lot.

The self-assured delivery of "...and Peter Benchly!" and then the description of Benchley signing the White Album killed me, how enamored he was with his own lie about Benchley so happily adding such a ridiculous and huge signature. And yeah, the breakdown at the end was brilliant.

Now I want to know what position Tom plays for Consolidated Cardboard's team. Hot corner or captain of the infield?

"you know who else was there?"
"George Clooney?"
".........yep"

I feel like that whole bit was a specific response to Spleen's complaint.

He also quickly announced his candidididacy for mayor, then said "but I'll talk to you about that later". hehe

Maybe my favourite ever Worcester call.

This was a great call, just because of the fact that it was my girlfriend's first time listening to the Best Show. I didn't tell her anything about Wurster's calls, and it was amazing fun to watch her listen live and get hooked into thinking that was a real call, and then the slow dawning realization that it couldn't possibly be real (She went longer than I would've thought!) A majestic moment for every first time Best Show listener.

I did the same thing for a friend of mine but with a couple of older calls I put on a cd for him.  A couple of hours later I start getting this series of text messages from him as he is listening to the cd:

1. "holy shit this stuff is hilarious"

2. "this isn't for real is it"

3. "there is no way this is real"

4. "ok, maybe it is"

5. "I tried looking up Newbridge and its all bullshit."

6. "ok, the second call you put on seems real"

7. "scratch that, wtf???!!"

8. "this is pissing me off.  I can't tell if its real or not"

9. "its funny if its real, I hate it if its not"

10. "hello?  I need to know about this asap."

11. "ok, don't give me anymore of this"

My wife has never been a huge fan of the show, because she often feels that she has to compete with it.  But when I told her about the football helmet signed by Gerard Depardieu, she lost it big time.
