A heads-up for Toronto FOTs: Ted Leo & co. are playing not-one-but-TWO shows in our fair city tomorrow (at the mod club) and Friday (at yonge-dundas square, or as it's known to the completely ridiculous, "our Very Own Times Square!").
I know there are more of us than me and Paycheck (and Ben?) and I'd really like for there to be, you know, a presence on Friday, so that if anyone starts playing that Soft Machine riff I am not literally the only person there yelling "We did it again! We did it again!" much to the bewilderment of everyone around me. That has happened to me exactly once, and that once was one time too many, you guys.

Where did the name T Dot come from? Emma, can you splain to us?
-
Also, do people really pronounce it Tronno?

Fido: I can't say for sure, but the first time I was made aware was through the stunning lyricism of cornerstone Toronto hip-hop artist Shawn Desman, who truly did our city proud with his 2002 smash hit Get Ready,

a song whose lyrics will be forever embedded in my brain thanks to the countless radio and tv stations that played it non-fucking-stop to fulfill their CanCon quotas.
I am actually 3/4 human, 1/4 encyclopedia of terrible pop music from the late '90s/early 2000s. This was, I think, from the same time I was listening nonstop to Prozzak and the soundtrack to Josie and the Pussycats. I was 11! Don't judge! Okay, you can judge a little. But not too much.
And to answer the question I know you all have about that video: yes, all Toronto women dress in bikini tops to go shopping.
Laurie: to everyone outside the GTA it is "traw-nawh" or T-oh-ron-tow, like Tom says it.

And Toronto is only Canada's #2 hot women city:

I can't imagine what they do in Montreal.

. . . I was listening nonstop to Prozzak and the soundtrack to Josie and the Pussycats. I was 11!
Is that why you were so angry?
-
Aha ha ha ha ha:
Walking the streets of downtown Toronto is like browsing God’s “hot women” catalogue.
QUALITY JOURNALISM.
The thing about that article, though, is they just named the ten major (or major-ish) cities that Canada has.
Also, Sarah: I think you may have hit the proverbial nail on the (equally proverbial) head.

Look out for my TL in the M-Hat at B-Park thread in the near future. If I could afford it , there would be a TL at M-Square w/ P-Jam thread as well.

Just for the record: I'm pretty sure T-Dot predates Shawn Desman. It does come out of Toronto's hip-hop scene, which, yes, there is one. People like Kardinall Offishall were slinging this phrase around in the mid-to-late 90s, probably earlier, since that's when it reached my white, middle-class ears.
Toronto's abbreviation has always been T.O., and you can probably all connect the dots from there.

Oh dear - I just watched the first few seconds of that Shawn Desman video. Thank christ I was out of the country for that, and missed it completely.
Emma, shame on you for posting Canadiana such as that! In the future I reccomend trying to trick others into thinking Canada is hip by posting only cool cultural artifacts! You know, Prank Patrol clips, and stuff!
