My Sad Story, by Dave from Knoxville.
On Saturday the 14th, my family packed up and went to the beach.
I must stay and work.
They will also miss (probably) my 50th birthday.
The End.

and a big up to all the FOTs without dads

Jeepers. Thanks!
My kids drew pictures for me and bought me a flashlight for camping. My wife said, "Guess what. I walked around the mall looking for something for you, panicked, and got you nothing." It was fricking hilarious. And given that she let me sit on the couch for like two hours this morning to read the New York Times while she watched the kids, no other gift was needed, thank you.

whoa. I posted before reading DFK's and Josh's post.
I feel like a jackass.

No, please, don't! I am not a third as bitter as I sounded.
OK, not half as.
Alright, not 90% as.

awww.. thanks so much!
i had an inadvertent philly boy roy-style father's day surprise: my wife made me a hoagie and had it waitin' for me when i got home from work sunday morning (she's a longtime vegetarian too so i appreciate her indulging me.) also a nice card she had our daughter scribble on and a kid's' book to read to her. 'twas nice.

I didn't even get a card. :-[

I got a Father's Day card from my dog.

I can only feel a third of your pain, I only had to work. But, it was my first Father's Day.
My wife is taking me out to dinner tonight because the place we want to go to was in the thick of the Gaspee Days (http://www.gaspee.org/BurningGaspee.html) celebrations (the beginning of Providence and its smaller siblings', Cranston and Warwick, claim to Angriest City in the country) yesterday.

no father's day for myself or my father...but i called my brother!
he was pretty excited since his first is only 3 months old. apaprently he bought himself a WORLD'S GREATEST DAD shirt. between my phone call and his own indulgence, he had an awesome father's day.
-
Thanks, my son called me up and said "hey, uh, dad, happy's father's day. i don't really know what to say, so..........."
and then he put the phone next to his stereo, which was playing the Macarena song.

My father informed me two weeks ago that he wanted no calls on Father's Day, so I of course respected his wishes. That was my little gift to him.

I called my dad on the phone. Does that count?

Laurie,
it was sweet of you to post this thread. I had a really nice first Father's Day. My six month old son got me two coffee cups from Sweeden complete with saucers.

But you know what, Jed? I will be a super-caller again. It's my destiny!

I also appreciate the thread, Laurie. Thank you.

It wasn't Father's Day here yesterday, and I'm not a father, but thank you all the same.

I'm not a father but we had a pretty eventful fathers day weekend. We celebrate my dad's on Saturday so he can go visit his dad on Sunday and the plan was to get my brother in law, my dad and myself to sod my dad's lawn and then have a fish fry. Plans changed when my sister had a baby boy Saturday morning! So my dad and I sodded the lawn by ourselves after we went to see the new baby.

I think that is creepily precocious, and I'd be very worried if I were you. Does he have very, very blond hair and bright blue eyes?
