I wish I could help, Erika. I'm pretty badly strapped right now, but I'm thinking of you and her and sending positive vibes your way.

You guys are making me cry.
This is too nice. You really are the best group of people I've ever associated with.

Wish I could do more but I have almost no disposable income.
I've really refrained from reading these threads because the thought of someday going through this with my own cat makes me crazy with fear.
Chester is concerned and sends his best.

what are we at now...$475?
-
I'm still pretty much a newbie, but I'm really proud to be a part of this board :)
-
Yeah, you guys are just great people. I'm so proud to say I know all of you.
-
This episode has caused me to worry, like a lot of people here, about my own cat's eventual health woes.
I propose an ongoing "FOT Sick Cat Fund." I'd ante up $20 a month into a pool that could benefit any FOTs with sick cats and limited means. Maybe we could open a savings account.
I work from home, and value my cat's company much more than it's probably cool to admit. In California, $20 gets your four gallons of gas. I'd forego one beach trip a month to help a troubled feline.
Dog buffs, you're on your own.
-
$20
-
yeah, fuck dogs.
-
whats interesting about all this heart-warming gush is that i'll probably never meet any of you (due to circumstances, not choice), which makes it all the more endearing.
i love the internet.
-
I'm sorry to say I can't participate purely because I've no money, and shan't be earning for a while due to "hilarious" immigration issues.
But I wholeheartedly endorse this initiative.
-
Can't help on the money front, but it's good to see FOTs lending a hand.
-
Erica,
I'm in a rough patch with the $$$, but I wish you and your cat all the best. Hang in there, as the poster with the kitten on it says.
Sincerely,
John
-
This is all craziness. Such wonderful wonderful, kind-hearted, amazing, soul-filling craziness.
No one should apologize for money issues. I appreciate all the good vibes, and I just don't know how to thank everyone enough.
Crazy, I tell you!
-
I'm in for $20. Erika would be the first to do it for any of us.
-
I highly recommend getting that Paypal account started before you need the cash. If you request a check it will take a few days to be processed.

Save that filth for Chinatown.
Also, $20.

I have always been proud to be an FOT and now I'm even more so.
You exemplify kindness and generosity.

(I promise I have put her on a diet and I'm not smoking in the house anymore, btw...)
-
Everyone who pledged should have a private message.
I also assumed everybody was familiar with paypal.com and did not out the address in.
-
Ack! I just saw this thread for the first time! Is it too late to contribute? Anything? Bus fare to the vet?
Seriously, let me know.
-
good luck erika!
-
I'm afraid I can't contribute, but go FOTs go! This is a nice thread and I hope your cat gets better Erika.
-
I can't pledge right now because I'm not working. But as soon as things start swinging my way, I'm flying over there with a cape and kitty IV.
-
I'm late on this, but Erika: I wish you and your cat all the best.

I hope things go well, Erika.
And Jason - PM me if you need it...
-
Also late, but also got some $ with a kitty's name on it, should PayPal skim too much off the top.
-
Same here, let me know if any more help is needed.
-
Everyone please pay the fuck up.
I'm super busy but I'll try and post a list of those who've paid.
Stragglers offering money are welcome to top it up to 700 and cover ebay fees, I'll be in touch.
-
I just saw this- I finally got confirmation that I have a job for this summer, so I'll pitch in $20 if it's not too late.

pay the fuck up, darn it.
-
The "darn" was a sweet touch.
-
i'm glad somebody noticed.
-
Still $200 short.
If you messaged me asking whether I received your money then I probably did, I just think a few people haven't paid. It's a huge task to sift through the emails and private messages and tally who is who on the board but I'll try and make a list by the weekend.
If you have not paid then please do so, Sasha's health is at stake.
-
I'm having problems with PayPal that should be straightened out in a day or two. But I might also be able to pay you faster some other way. In fact, if there's a way I can pay you without logging in, it might actually get to you faster. I'll check it out. I hate eBay, so I never use the service.

Where are you incarcerated?
Tennessee State Penal Farm for Broke Slobs
Coincidentally, as a youngster I worked at the Ford Glass Plant, which was about a football field away from the Tennessee State prison. In 1975, an inmate escaped and came over to the river side of the factory, where he found a group of workers throwing horseshoes while on break. He joined them in the game, playing for about 30 minutes before announcing "Boys, you better go ahead and call them, I am ready to go back. It's been fun!"
Was that you?

I just imagined George Clooney in his Oh, Brother Where Art Thou character as your inmate. Good story!

Sell that anecdote to the "My Name Is Earl" people.

You never know. I'm probably going to GonerFest.
Also, I can throw in some money if someone sends me the PayPal address.

How's this going? Has everyone paid up? Is Sasha getting the care she deserves?
-
Hey there... Sasha is doing OK now. I was able to temporarily borrow some money while the collection was going on (still have to pay it back) to take her to some vet appointments. She was supposed to have an echocardiogram, but then they told me to wait and see if she started coughing again. That was about a week and a half ago.
Well, that same night, she had a minute-long coughing/asphyxia attack. She was in my arms (she usually sleeps in my lap) and she got stiff and let off the scent of... well, kinda like a dog who is frightened. I've never witnessed that with her. My other cat, who hates her, came running and started licking her and crying. I really thought that was going to be it for her.
The next day I called and they told me again that she needed the echocardiogram. When I got there, they said they had persuaded the cardiologist to just take a closer look at her xrays. The cardiologist thought it was heartworm so instead of the echo test they had me get her bloodwork done and had her tested for heartworm.
Heartworm tests came back negative. (she's still coughing at this point) This was a huge relief because there's no real cure for heartworm in kitties. I spent about 5 days thinking she was going to straight up die on me. (aka having a nervous breakdown and not posting about it)
So, I took her to yet another appointment and they put her on Prednisone and a Bronchio-dilator. I can't get her to take the bronchio because it's basically a liquid made of crushed up, super bitter tablets. She won't eat it and it makes her puke. She doesn't take pills so I have to give her liquid. Fish-flavored liquid to be exact... picky little brat. Sooooo.... she's only on Prednisone right now and I just talked to the vet and he said he's not sure what it is that's going on but it could be asthma or pneumonia. He said if the prednisone is working to keep her on it for another 5 days and then they'll do more xrays to see how her heart looks and if the fluid is gone from her lungs.
More info than you probably wanted to know, but I owed an update...
We've had SIX nights of easy breathing and playing with catnip toys instead of choking. I'm more grateful than anyone could possibly imagine.
-
Good to know things are progressing. Thanks for the update.
Anyone who hasn't paid their pledge yet, do it! There's a kitty depending on you!
-
I was glad to see your post, erika. I meant to inquire about Sasha yesterday and was all set to do so this morning. I'm glad she's doing better.
-
ditto.
initially, while reading your update, i thought the worst.
nice to see things picked up.
-
Ah sorry for the scare.
-
have I ever told you guys that we're the best?
-
That's fantastic news, Erika.
Have you introduced something new to your place in the last couple of months? Like a new plant or piece of furniture?
Maybe Sasha is having an allergic reaction to something.
At any rate, I'm so glad she's feeling better.
-
have I ever told you guys that we're simply the best?
P.S. Why do my posts so often end up at the top of a new page? It's disconcerting.
-
you said it, sarah.

Having 2700 plus posts will mean you have a lot of posts everywhere on the page. You simply notice the ones at the top because they are notable.
Oh, dear, there I go again.
-
You are right. And I am dumb.
-
I'm late here, but if there's still a need, I can kick in!
I hope things go well, Erika.
And Jason - PM me if you need it...
Still collecting? If so, put me down for $30.
-
Thanks but I think we're OK :) I do appreciate it though.
(If you're still feeling generous -- and this goes for anyone -- please donate it to the ASPCA. They always need it.)

Hi FOT's who I don't still talk to elsewhere...
Been a crazy year, and I haven't been listening to TBS as much as I should, but I've been listening lately and other events made me think of this whole thread/episode in my life. This was still the nicest thing that anyone has ever done for me, and I will never forget it.
Sasha was put to sleep almost three months ago. It will be three months next week. She had acquired diabetes in 2010 and had lost a lot of weight despite being treated with insulin, etc. Couldn't watch her get any worse and when she stopped snuggling we knew it was time. There will never be another kitty like her.
Very tough end to a tough year. But she had three+ years of extra time with me and I will always appreciate that...
Here's to you all and all other FOT's. And here's to a better 2012 :) xo
-
I'm glad you got some more time with your cat.
I have an elder cat myself who was getting lethargic and showing signs of diabetes (such as drinking excessive water). She no longer shows these signs since I stopped overfeeding her (I didn't know that I had been) and switched her to wet food. So I'm thankful I'll have some more time with my tiny ball of hate, claws, and snuggling.
-
I'm glad you got bonus time with your cat and I'm glad to have helped in my own small way.
-
yesno, don't be afraid of the insulin injections if you eventually have to go to them. They're actually super easy to administer, even to the most sketched out kitties.
The wet food is an excellent choice. Sasha's sugar was lower when we gave her any of the Fancy Feast Classic varieties. Don't give anything with gluten or sugar -- aka gravy -- in it.
The problem with Sasha was that she was on other medication that was making the diabetes worse so we were kind of causing an issue and treating it at the same time. But diabetic kitties without other complications can do well for a LONG time!
Sasha ran around like a goofball even up until her last few days with us. The extra time was worth it 100%.
-
Thanks, I'll make sure to get the classic food. The cat does love that disgusting gravy/gel, though.
ps: I will need my money back, of course. I'm sure you understand.
