Whoa!  Great!  Thanks for sharing.  I'm a big Patton fan but I never remember to check his blog.  Now I'm going to track down the commencement speech that he mentions in the previous post.

That was great. I really wish I had anyone half that interesting as a commencement speaker- we didn't even have any sort of outside person. Instead, we got a bizarre metaphor from the principal in which he concluded that Sisyphus was happy because he controlled his own fate and we should be happy too, and of course the brilliant speech from the class president where she listed off our accomplishments- all of which were the student government's accomplishments, and not very impressive ones at that- and paused as if expecting us to applaud after each was named. Not like I could actually see any of them, what with the hundreds of people in front of me and sun directly in my eyes...

Okay, I think it's time for me to let go of my hatred of high school. Or am I allowed to keep it until I actually start college?

I've still got mine 12 years later!

Good to know! Considering that somehow three other kids from my school are going to the same college and I don't care about Facebook enough to delete the people I honestly can't stand (which is a lot of people), it's going to be sticking with me for a while.

That speech is astonishingly good! I just learned some things about life, and I'm way past high school. Patton is a genius.

Yeah. I vote to keep that hatred.

I don't still hate it as much as I regret not taking advantage of the more outgoing parts of my personality during those years, but I think any hatred of high school is probably valid enough to hold onto for about a decade.

Uck. It sucked. At least most of it.

The only reason I don't loathe my high school days is because my junior high days were like fifteen times worse. Also I get to brag about going to the same high school that Gordon Parks and Charles Schulz used to attend.

Maybe he had me confused with another student, someone who hadn’t written his AP English paper on comparisons between Jay Gatsby and Spider-Man.

That killed me. I wrote my IB (International Baccalaureate; yeah, kinda braggin') English paper on the Ramones.

but damn, what a great speech. My HS graduation was the most solemn/boring thing I've ever attended. All we had was the Catholic Bishop of RI, and we couldn't even thrown our caps in the air at the end.

That'd be me. (I am not sure if there is really any kind of FOT contingent in St. Paul, actually.)
