I love when you're watching a tv show or something about a band and the fake songs they write are actually really enjoyable.
I've been on a big It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia kick lately so I'm going to start off with Night Man and it's response song Day Man
i wish i could find you tube clip of them but you can watch them here

I kind of liked those songs that Polaris did for "The Adventures of Pete & Pete," but were those fake enough?
-
Human Giant- Old Fashioned Fun
And the one fake song to rule them all: The Beets- Killer Tofu
-
I have to throw in these too.

Oh hell yeah.

Probably not Hey Sandy or Waiting for October, but maybe Summerbaby, which I think was younger Pete's favorite song within the show.

Rip and Destroy from KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park
Bwa ha ha ha! Because "Hotter Than Hell" was too risque for network television. I remember going WTF? when this originally aired.

"Evolution Revolution" by The Evolution Revolution, you know it had to be good if they used the same name for the band and the song:

"Can You Picture That" by Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, in all its "Big Barn Bed"-like glory:

Does the Plastic Bertrand tune in the Garmin commercial count? Who on earth thought he still had it in him?
Then there's always this:

Wes, 'Can you picture that?' is anything but fake.
I'm going to have it as my first dance when I get married.

My vote has to be for "Gordon Won't You Come Out and Play"
from Mother Goose Rock & Rhyme

Also, from the "That Thing You Do!" OST:
Hold My Hand, Hold My Heart (The Chantrellines)
Mr. Downtown (Freddy Fredrickson)

19 pounds, 99 pence??
Jeez - I mean, I know it was over twenty years ago, but I definitely was still paying a good $45.00 for a pair of Docs.
And that was when the Yanque dollar was STRONG, amigos!

I can't for the life of me find a decent clip of it, but the song "Higher and Higher" from Wet Hot American Summer. I get that shit in my head all the time.
-
1.Hi fives all around for night man and day man, champions. aaaahhh!
2.I kind of liked those songs that Polaris did for "The Adventures of Pete & Pete," but were those fake enough?
I know tha Polaris had an album or two out and I think that the theme song to "Adventures of Pete and Pete" was on one of them.

I love Porcupine Racetrack to a ridiculous extent:

I think Polaris was a side project specifically for Pete & Pete, but that show did have lots of other good music by Stephen Merritt too.
I love all the Paul Williams songs for the Muppets.

I think that was Craig Wedren. I know he did the Stella theme too (which I liked). "Higher and Higher" fits into the movie so well, especially with all the great Loverboy songs.

There's a blog out there... I don't have the link since I downloaded it a few months ago, but it has a two disc compilation of all the songs played on Pete and Pete.

Re-recordings kill the humor - it's the same thing with Will Ferrell's studio version of "Afternoon Delight." At least there's still "Pug Nose Face":

Also from Buffy, Giles's song in "Restless" that features the immortal lyric "And try not to bleed on my couch / I've just had it steam [beat] cleaned."
I can't find a clip.

you know what song is sadly lacking from this thread?

I completely forgot about Mother Goose Rock & Rhyme. I probably watched it a million times on the Disney Channel as a kid. How can you beat a cast that has the Del Rubio triplets, Bobby Brown, and ZZ Top?
