Anybody going to see this today or saw it last night? I just read that the midnight screenings made $18.5 million alone. And apparently there are morons out there paying $40 a ticket to see the sold-out Imax screenings on Craigslist.
-
I just saw it. Holy moly this movie was great.
-
I enjoyed it and thought it was definitely very good. My only complaint is that Christian Bale hasn't dropped the dumb voice. I understand the complaint by many that "How do these people that are so close to him not recognize it's him? They even have the same voice!" but Bale's voice just became distracting and really hard to understand as the movie went on.
Also surprised that Ledger really isn't in the movie a whole lot. You see more of Aaron Eckhart & Gary Oldman than Ledger.

Yeah, Bale's Batman voice was one of those minor problems I had with the movie too. I didn't care much about Ledger's death when it happened but now I'm really bummed out by it because a second Joker movie would've been fantastic. The main thing that set this apart from other superhero movies for me was the fact that I couldn't really predict what was going to happen next (obviously Batman wasn't going to die, but other than him anyone seemed like fair game) and that's usually my biggest problem with comic book films, the total predictability. Overall I thought it was really fantastic and I'm hoping to catch it on the IMAX next week when the crowds aren't so crazy.
-
Ugh, that voice.
I really liked everything else though.
-
I haven't seen Batman Begins (is that what it's called?) or this, but I gotta say, I don't find Batman inherently interesting and all the clips I see of this movie look totally boring. Are they just not showing the interesting parts of the movie on purpose? All the clips I see are like people having meetings, and then there's 20 seconds of Heath Ledger talking like an old hard hat guy in clown makeup.
Actually I just realized what's funny about Ledger's Joker is he could totally be based on one of those ex-cons who dress up as movie characters outside of Mann's chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
Also, I'm not denying that this movie is good, I just was voicing the fact that I'm not really getting the pull of it. But shit, I went and saw Hancock and didn't think it was that bad. At least the first half was fun.
-
Bale's Batman voice should be patterned after Super Dave.
"What's wrong with you, Joker? You're an idiot."

For a movie like this that is going to have a huge draw regardless of the trailer, I think they could get away with not spoiling most of the movie like a lot of big trailers do these days. I've read many people saying that this is really a good detective movie at heart, not a big comic book spectacular, and I think that is a fair claim. Hell, even my girlfriend, who can't sit through movie and couldn't care less about Batman, loved it.
-
Great stuff.
Loved Eckhart.
It was awesome.
-
I thought it pretty much ruled.
The only thing that me enjoy it less was the audience. Why would people talk during this movie that they've obviously been waiting a long time to see? Also, cheering and clapping when SPOILER Gary Oldman comes back so I can't even hear what he says. For shame.
-
That's why I'll never go to a midnight showing or to a show on the first day. Clapping and cheering at a movie is so lame and extremely annoying.
-

No its not, its great. Too cool? Be happy.
-
I am happy. I'm watching a movie I've wanted to see for a long time but the audience thinks it's a live show with Christopher Nolan sitting in the front row.
-
I'm interested to see where this argument goes.
-
I don't find Batman inherently interesting
I like the idea of someone who does find the idea of Batman inherently interesting, but without ever having seen or read any Batman material.
Like, "Hmmmm, guy wears bat suit and goes around beating up small time thugs and the occasional mad villain? I'll admit that my interest is piqued..... Tell me more."
-
It...was...awesome!!!
-
I enjoyed it, but I agree that the people talking in the theater thing is annoying. The theater where I saw it sells beer and food, so the alcohol may've had something to do with the chatter and cheering and talking. There was a group of frattish FWDs behind me that were whooping and cheering at all of the most sadistic parts. I was seriously surprised when these mutants didn't cheer at the part where the little boy had a gun to his head.
-
I had a friend who went to a midnight screening (and at a theater with no alcohol sales) where the crowd was mainly men ages 16 to 30. She complained that the people that went out of their ways to see it late at night, who were presumably eager fans, were all talking throughout the movie.
I can understand hooting and hollering, but it depends on the type of movie. If you're watching District B-13 or some action movie with crazy sequences, I get it. I also understand the laughing at overly gruesome stuff (but when it's for shock value -- like Saw or something). I think it's just annoying though for a movie like the Dark Knight that wasn't exactly full of amazing action and had an emphasis on the story.
With fans talking and shouting during the movie, along with being unable to understand Christian Bale's Batman voice, it makes me wish for subtitles.
What are everybody's thoughts on where this ranks with other sequels (Empire Strikes Back) and other comic book/super hero movies? After only one viewing, I think there are some aspects of the movie that could've made this even better (SPOILER ALERT -- one example being that Harvey Dent's transformation into Two-Face occurred so incredibly quickly -- END SPOILER) but I still really enjoyed it.
-
SPOILERS - I liked it, but Batman kinda ends up being the weak link of the movie. Bale's Dirty Harry montone is so ridiculous and hard to understand (although a lot of the dialogue sounded murky on the theater's sound system) that I finally had to snicker during the final confrontation with Dent. Plus, Nolan strives to create a relatively realistic atmosphere but occasionally frames Batman in ways that make him seem silly and anachronistic in his own movie, like early on when he suddenly and awkwardly appears in the bank vault, or when he's hanging back while Dent and Gordon are bickering. At those times it seemed more like a goofy guy in a batsuit wandering into a Michael Mann-style film to me, rather than a Batman movie. The tractor flip and the motorcycle 180 were awesome enough to make up for a lot though.
I can't complain about much else. There were other moments I loved, most of them Joker-related. I was surprised they killed off Maggie (if it had been Katie Holmes the midnight screening crowd would have cheered their baseball hats/makeshift cowls off). I guess they'll need to bring in Catwoman next to make for it, although I'll wonder if they'll place the same priority on acting chops when searching for an actress who looks good in skintight fetishwear.

angelina jolie as catwoman in the next movie?

Geez, I sure hope not. I can't ever take her seriously as an action actress. I always think that her 2 inch thick wrists/ankles are about to snap in two when she's punching and kicking.
-
Loved it! Perfect summer action flick.

I really liked it but I think the hype for Ledger's performance is a tad overblown. He was good but it wasn't anything oscar worthy. You guys were totally right about the growl on Batman though. That's pretty bad. I like that it's different than Bruce Wayne but man, that's going a little too far. Also, I know everybody agrees that the MPAA is corrupt but there is no way that movie should have been PG-13. That is probably the most R rated PG-13 movie I've ever seen.
****SPOILER ALERT: I was really shocked that they only used the Two Face character for about 20-30 minutes. I thought he'd be the villain of the next one. Turns out it's going to be Batman (and probably somebody else too) and I think that will be an aggravating 3 hours. Also, did Scarecrow really need to be in the movie? That was a little strange.

SPOILER ALERT: It was a poorly scripted cameo from the Scarecrow that was just kinda confusing and dumb. Looking back, they should've cut the scene where Batman goes to Hong Kong and allowed more time for the Maggie G/Christian Bale relationship (their relationship doesn't look genuine) or allowed more time for Two-Face's development (and maybe not kill him off).
I wasn't impressed with Maggie Gyllenhaal. She doesn't fit the role well (I can't see her as the middle of a love triangle between Dent/Wayne).

MINOR SPOILER ALERT: Not really a spoiler but The Joker is still alive- Heath Ledger isn't. How sweet would it be to see Daniel Day Lewis take the role?

I would probably pay the insane craigslist prices for that.

Out of fairness to Maggie (and I guess Katie Holmes) that character was pretty much an underwritten dud in the end. I don't even remember or care what she was saying when she got blown up. Something about having offbeat good looks, I think (unless I'm thinking of Meryl Streep on Farm Film Blowup (http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/c3ec14d084)). They could've saved Two-Face for the next movie, as he's one of the few usable villains in this interpretation of the story, but obviously they had no inkling what was going to happen w/ Ledger (SUPERFULOUS EDIT: Or did they?).
-
During the half-hour First Look pre-preview deal they advertised the movie, The Dark Knight. I crap you not.
-
I'm thinking they should do some sort of Ricola product placement/tie-in for Batman in the next movie so I can understand what the F he's saying.

I thought the Scarecrow cameo was a great idea that was extraordinarily poorly, as you say, scripted. I THINK it was meant to show how far he'd fallen, and that he'd sort of become one of the loser bad guys that Batman was always defeating in the first few pages of the comic book when he'd hear about the real bad guy he'd have to fight. I like that idea - but the way it was written was just lousy.
I liked the movie a lot, although like all action films nowadays it was at least 20 minutes too long.
-

I'm almost certain they won't recast The Joker, especially with the kind of acclaim Ledger's performance has gotten. It seems like the best villain for the third movie would be the Riddler. I could see them turning him into a guy who sets up crazy elaborate plots (like Saw, or what I assume happens in Saw since I've never actually seen any of them). All the other remaining villains are too ridiculous for a more "serious" Batman movie. Honestly, I'd be fine with Dark Knight being the last one but I know that's not too realistic. I'm really hoping they don't bring Robin or Batgirl in at any point.
-
I think Christian Bale said that as long as he was Batman, there would be no Robin. Which I extrapolate to mean no Batgirl, as well.

I haven't seen it yet but I overheard some guy talking about it this weekend at a Zine Fest and it was obvious he hated it. He went on at length about how right-winged it was based on the surveillance systems in it, how hard on women the movie was and the best bit I heard was "..not only that, it glorified vigilantism."

****HUGE SPOILERS****
You know, I haven't heard many people talk about the cell phone tapping and that Batman was only able to finish off Joker by using very illegal equipment and that Lucious was so quick to make the decision to go ahead with it. Obviously, it was destroyed and Batman has never followed the laws to a t but it was surprising that they decided to go all 24 on us.

It was also the weakest part of the movie. It was half-baked political commentary that failed to make a strong point one way or the other, and the technological aspect wasn't fun or interesting at all for the story. They should've dropped the whole concept.
Still a good movie!

The Toronto Globe and Mail review summed this part up a bit: "If the Joker suggests Osama bin Laden, Batman could be a morally conflicted George W. Bush. He is forced to resort to violent interrogation, even mass surveillance (one-time-only, of course) when he enlists Morgan Freeman's Lucius to turn every cellphone in Gotham City turns into a sonar imaging system."
I too don't think the allusions worked. SPOILER ALERT -- The whole idea of the hostages being disguised as Joker's henchman and Batman relying on the sonar was kinda lame anyways.
-
i liked it, even with the lame parts. although, i dont get the whole BOLT preview before (what seems like every movie ive seen this last month).
and i dont think the joker should come back. however, i preferred this TWO FACE look much better than the tommy lee jones character. and the small SCARECROW cameo in the beginning...weak. do it or dont, i say.
-
I don't buy the political allegory. People are too keen to tack that on to everything these days. Batman has always (or at least since the 80s) been 1) a vigilante and 2) morally ambiguous.
The Joker as Osama bin Laden? That's just dumb for a bunch of reasons.
Edit: Did I say I loved this movie? I did love it. It's terrific.

For me at least, the most interesting stuff came from (for a comic book movie anyway) extensive discussions/discourses between pairings of the major characters. I was trying to explain to Andy from Knoxville why I loved it so much (he did too), and I think it comes down to movies it reminds me of, particularly great old westerns, in which the character-driven action was a framing device for larger questions. The Dark Knight's got more of a philosophical bent than most films in its genre, and that, for me, was fun. Maybe the best super-hero movie ever, and, I think, the best movie of any kind I have seen this year.

You know why Bale beat his Mom? Her disappointment when she learned there was no Robin.
-
Also, I would suggest Gillian Anderson as the perfect Catwoman.
Or Crispin Glover.
-
Crispin Glover as Catwoman? That would be a sight to see and I bet he would be delighted to take the role. He wouldn't be a bad Riddler and I really want to see Nolan's take on the Riddler. I'm not a hater of Batman Forever: it wasn't great but it was kind of fun. But, the Riddler deserves another look and Nolan's Batman would be a great time to revisit the character.
-
I generally recommend Crispin for any role that comes open. I wanted to see his Bond.

I can't imagine how Crispin would look coming out of the water wearing a speedo like Daniel Craig in Casino Royale.
I normally dismiss the IMDB Top 250 rating, but has anybody else noticed that The Dark Knight is #1 of all time?
-

So would I. But it will never happen. Speilberg is too powerful.
-
...I just don't think I'm a superhero guy. I enjoyed it up until Joker got arrested; I could have called it quits at that point.

I finally saws it and it was awesome. Until it went on too long. Its really unfortunate for any sequel of that movie that they killed Twoface. With the actor who played Joker to perfection (he really did, I thinks) dead, they've set this Batman up as so badass that I can't think of any Batman villians worthy of this franchise other than Twoface and Joker.
As for the Scarecrow thing, don't you think that was set-up for a later movie? They wouldn't have used a very good actor unless they were going to bring him back.
-
I realize this makes me stupid, but I stopped comprehending parts of the plot about halfway through. Once the joker got arrested, I assumed the story was wrapping up and kind of zoned out. By then I was exhausted by the noise, fistfights, explosions and growly dialogue.
I also got majorly distracted by two teenagers to the front-right of me who kept checking their fucking text messages and distracting me with the light from their phones. I finally stormed over and did something that'd make my dad proud: told them to turn the fucking things off, and they did, looking a little scared. I'm easily half their size and twice their age, FWIW.

I'm pretty sure Two Face is still alive- probably in Arkham. They only buried Harvey Dent.
-
and the harvey dent turned two face looks MUCH better than the purple goop face on tommy lee jones.
-
i really liked the way they did two face in this one. I always bothered me how he just got acid thrown in his face and suddenly he's a crazy villain.
I think they came up with a really convincing back story that fit really well with the rest of the plot.
-
Two-Face as a self-pitying lapsed liberal is a pretty awesome character idea. It would've been neat to see a whole movie of this either sniveling or slovering lunatic go on an extended wounded-feelings vengeance mission throughout Gotham. But it would be a sort of sick pleasure. As it was, I don't think his character was all that great.
I also pretty much thought it was over after the Joker got arrested. The whole "He planned to get arrested!" thing didn't really set well with me. I mean I could see him wanting to get arrested in order to access the Asian mobster guy (I guess...) even though he didn't really do anything with that guy except perch him on top of a big pile of money and set him on fire, but then why bother with the extended armored-car chase. Also, what's up with that guy being like "I know who Batman is!" and getting on television in order to waffle about it for a half hour. If I were Anthony Michael Hall I'd be like "Out with it, son!"
It was pretty awesome, though.
Anyone else reminded, just a teeny bit, of the squat evil clown from Spawn's old-timey tough-guy voice w/ Ledger's Joker? Not even a little bit?
Also: I never really watched Spawn.
-
Count me in the "Pro" column w/r/t the Scarecrow cameo. I thought it was fun and unexpected, and a good way to sort of open up the universe and make it feel like the movies are taking place in a real city where stuff is going on whether we're watching or not, not just a world that switches on during the opening credits and then switches off at the end of the movie.
And it's a dead horse, but the PG-13 rating on that movie was indeed insane. Any movie where someone gets killed onscreen by having their face slammed down into an upright pen is pretty much an R. I'm sort of an old fogey about that kind of stuff, but still - yeesh.
I keep trying to do Christian Bale's ultraintense Batman voice for my girlfriend, but I always start cracking up before I get through any of the lines.
-
I liked the Scarecrow cameo, and I'm also glad that Murphy showed up that afternoon for filming. It's always distracting when you can tell that the actor didn't want to do it, or had better things to do because they will keep the mask on and have a reasonably approximate voice-over. Kudos to Mt Murphy for the follow-through.
And isn't that how the comics always begin? You're always dropped into the story as Batman is mopping the floor with one of the other villains... then the real plot starts to take shape. It gives the viewer the impression that this just another day in the life.
Since they only have one other established bad guy, Scarecrow will have to do.
-
Also, I would suggest Gillian Anderson as the perfect Catwoman.
Or Crispin Glover.
Gillian Anderson would be super-foxy as Catwoman.
And Crispin Glover, actually, maybe could be nuts enough to pull off the role of the Joker.
-
Someone should tell Crispen Glover that he never was in Batman to begin with. That might be his problem.
-
I thought it was a half hour too long. It started to drag in the last quarter and I was wishing it would end.
I still think the 1st Tim Burton Batman movie was the best in recent (past 20 years) times. Jack Nicholson was a better joker.
-
I liked how long it was. I thought they throughly flushed out the story, it would have been cheesy to end it when Two-Face awoke in the hospital. I thought it might end there, but I was pleasantly surprised when it didn't.
-
Fleshed out, right?
DON'T JUDGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
"flushed out". yes. I can't wait to use that.
-
I'm still starting to think they might have bitten off too much than they could chew. I love the vast scope of the film and its ambitions, but I think they sacrificed some character development and focus on the relationship of Rachel/Bruce, among other things.
I do wanna ask though: did anybody else get annoyed that Batman drops Maroney from a two story ledge and Maroney clearly breaks his ankles (he lands from a 30 feet drop on his feet) yet in the next few scenes a day later (like at the hospital and the car scene with Two-Face) , he is walking perfectly fine.
-

He's using a cane, but a wheelchair would've been a stronger choice.
-
So I finally saw it yesterday. I was a little disappointed. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood, or maybe all the hype spoiled it for me. I think I need to see it again.
Here's how I feel about it right now: I didn't like Nolan/Ledger's interpretation of the Joker. I really love the Joker as a villain, he's THE Batman villain. I especially like him in The Killing Joke and The Dark Knight Returns. To me, those are the two comics that capture the way I view the Joker. Ledger did a great job, but I felt like his portrayal was too scummy. He captured the psychotic nature, but the other aspects of the character felt off.
I also didn't like the Two-Face face effect. It felt really cartoony in a movie that was trying very hard to be realistic as possible. The exposed muscles/eyeball and the holes in his face just didn't seem realistic, and it looked too CG. It just bothered me. Also, I was disappointed that he died.
I was really surprised at how disappointed I was, because Batman is my favorite superhero and I thought Batman Begins was the best adaptation so far. I think The Dark Knight tried too hard to be realistic. It's still a comic book superhero, and even the darkest interpretations of the character (such as the Dark Knight Returns) don't forget that.
I think my feelings might change after another viewing, but that's how I stand right now.
I do agree with Tom that Gary Oldman did a great job, and his understated performance was perfect. Probably the best part of the movie.
Did anybody else think it was a weird casting choice to have Anthony Michael Hall as the newscaster?
-
Why does everyone think Two-Face is dead? The only character who had a funeral was Harvey Dent.
-
Did anybody else think it was a weird casting choice to have Anthony Michael Hall as the newscaster?
I didn't even recognize him. I just kept thinking he looked too much like Glenn Beck.
-
Why does everyone think Two-Face is dead? The only character who had a funeral was Harvey Dent.
So you think he'll be back? If you mean a new Two-Face, maybe. But the Harvey Dent Two-Face is dead. The whole point of Batman taking the rap for Two-Face's murders was so the hopeful image of Dent wouldn't be tarnished. If he's still alive somewhere, like Arkham Asylum, the truth would inevitably get out. I don't think that's a risk that either Gordon or Batman would take.
-
I don't think anybody knew that Two-Face existed and I'm pretty positive that only Gordon and Batman know who actually abducted his family. So, nobody knows what Harvey Dent turned into, as far as the city knows, he died in the hospital as a noble man.
-
Yeah, okay, I agree with you. Nobody knew about Two-Face except the people he killed/abducted.
But you imply that Two-Face is still alive in this post:
Why does everyone think Two-Face is dead? The only character who had a funeral was Harvey Dent.
I just don't see it. Having Two-Face around, even locked up, would be too risky. He could ruin Batman's plans to take the rap for the Two-Face murders.
Whatever. I feel like I'm repeating myself.
-

I think you're treating the idea of Two-Face as Dent's alter-ego too literally. In the movie, "Two-Face" is only the nickname Dent received years ago in internal affairs. As far as Gordon, Batman and the rest of the world were concerned he was Harvey Dent, and if they attempted to discreetly drop him off in Arkham every single staff member there would instantly question what the hell was going on. Their plan of covering up Dent's crimes is only feasible if Dent is dead, since despite all their ethical compromises Gordon and Batman wouldn't "disappear" a living Dent against his will. Anyway, the female cop also knew Dent abducted Gordon's family, though judging from her actions elsewhere she'd probably have no problem keeping quiet about it to keep her job.
I wrote this response while wearing a Riddler jacket, by the way. If you want to discuss Spider-Man, my Kraven the Hunter costume's at the cleaners so I'll have to bow out.
-
I wrote this response while wearing a Riddler jacket, by the way.
FUN FACT: Chris L is one of Christopher Nolan's top choices to play The Riddler in the next Batman movie. His only competition...
...is this guy.

That role is mine. Lesko lives in DC and I've seen him driving a questionmobile here in Bethesda before. He should be easy to find and clobber.
-
I finally saw it.
I found my celebrity crush, Gary Oldman, slightly less attractive with the moustache, but enjoyed the movie all the same.
Good times!

and if they attempted to discreetly drop him off in Arkham every single staff member there would instantly question what the hell was going on.
You're absolutely right.

Arkham Asylum Doctor: Commissioner, is that-
Commissioner Gordon: What? No! No, that's not-
Batman: It's, ah...his name is Half-Harvey Dent Face.
Arkham Asylum Doctor: Half...?
Batman: Half-Harvey Dent Face, yes.
Arkham Asylum Doctor: I don't, uh, I don't understand.
Commissioner Gordon: Well, you see, doctor...
Batman: See that horribly burned part of his face? That's his his real face.
Commissioner Gordon: Right!
Batman: The half that looks like Harvey Dent, he was having plastic surgery to make himself look like Harvey Dent.
Commissioner Gordon: To, uh, to ...he was going to discredit Harvey Dent, I guess?
Batman: Mmm-hmm, right, exactly. Steal his identity and discredit him. But we stopped him. Like, right at halfway through.
Arkham Asylum Doctor: Holy crap, that's wild!
Batman: I know, right? Anyway, he also...he also sounds like Harvey Dent and thinks he is Harvey Dent. But make no mistake, he is not Harvey Dent. He's...
Commissioner Gordon: Half-Harvey Dent Face.
Batman: Half-Harvey Dent Face.
Arkham Asylum Doctor: Well, fair enough. Hey, do you...do you need a lozenge or something, Batman?
Batman: No, no, I'm good.

Alright, you've convinced me. It is a pretty sound plan after all.

That's awesome.
I've been wondering about the Harvey Dent death thing. I read some blurb about Aaron Eckhardt saying he would love to return for the next Batman movie. Maybe he knows something we don't?
Anyway, I loved the movie. Saw it in IMAX last week. We're going to go see it in, uh, regular size soon because some of the action was a little hard to catch on the gigantor screen. But other than that, I can imagine the IMAX experience to be the way to go.
[Especially if you're a long-time Heath Ledger/Christian Bale/Gary Oldman/Cillian Murphy fan such as myself!]

He and Maggie Gyllenhaal were both signed for two movies, if that means anything.

I also didn't like the Two-Face face effect. It felt really cartoony in a movie that was trying very hard to be realistic as possible. The exposed muscles/eyeball and the holes in his face just didn't seem realistic, and it looked too CG. It just bothered me. Also, I was disappointed that he died.
whuuut...are you crazy?! his face looked much mroe realistic in this feature than it did a la tommy lee jones. mokin, i have to disagree- im sorry.

I think it looked better than Tommy Lee Jones, sure. But how hard is it to top Joel Schumacher?

FUN FACT: Chris L is one of Christopher Nolan's top choices to play The Riddler in the next Batman movie. His only competition...
...is this guy.

He looks like the real-life version of the one of the of the characters from Rug Rats.

Has there been any confirmation yet of the rumors that Christian Bale based the Batman voice on the narrator from Alphaville?
-
why is batman always so pissed off about shit? he should be like, 'dude, i'm fuckin batman. let's go break some shit!'
in my mind, batman could be cool. but it's like in comic books and movies he always comes out gay.

Batman would be way better if he started holding up liquor stores and stopped having sex with dudes, you mean?

that actually sounds close to what Grant Morrison has been making batman do in comic books lately

no, dill. why can't batman use his powers for some fun stuff too? he could start a band or throw more parties for cool subplots. basically, why the fuck would you waste all your time risking your life if you had a ton of money and nothing to do all day? it's just not believable.

I believe the super hero for you would be Iron Man.

I've always imagined Raad_Man to be more of a Matter-Eater Lad guy:

After viewing The Dark Knight for the second time the other night, my companion and I went for post-movie beverage/discussion (which usually turns into post-movie beverageS). Somehow the discussion ended with us deciding to start a new fantasy concept band called BatManDü. We will dress as Batman and do Hüsker Dü covers.
Is that wrong?
[sigh]

Finally, my dream of seeing Batman with a handlebar moustache may be realized.

If wanting to see a bunch of Batmen performing "Masochism World" is wrong, then being right is for chumps.

I don't know in what part of the world you live but wherever it is I'll be traveling to see this performance.
Suggestion: You rewrite the lyrics to be Batman-centric.
It's Not Funny Anymore- Joker
How to Skin a Cat- Catwoman
Ice Cold Ice- Mr Freeze
I could go on. But I won't.

"Two-Face Rising" is going to be intense.

Wow - maybe we should take this on the road. Take advantage of all the Batman Fever that sweeping the nation....
I'm thinking maybe we should be decked up in the Adam West-era Batman costume. Or maybe one Adam West, one Michael Keaton and one Christian Bale.
Or all 3 in whichever one had nipples on his suit.

Finally saw it tonight at.....the Palisades Mall! It did not sink into the ground.
Ledger's performance was not subtle.
My only complaint about the film? Commisioner Gordon's final soliloquy as Batman rides off into the....well....dark night. He goes into this profound speech about what Batman is, and why he is that way....to his little kid! The kid must have been like..."Daddy? What the fuck are you talking about?"

I was so mad when they took the Rainforest Cafe out of that mall.

I watched this mo-fo in BFI's IMAX in London the other day. Hard to know what was more impressive - the IMAX experience or the movie itself, tough to separate the two. In any way I was thoroughly entertained. Some minor gripes mentioned by others - the ridiculously gravelly Batman voice, the silly ship sequence - but I'll take it. Way better than Batman Begins, which I thought was "OK".
It's got a 12 certificate in England; I think they could have given it a 15, it's so grim and violent. (It's 15 in Sweden.) Of course, parents know best, and so the screening I went to was attended by probably 30-40 kids in the ages 5-10. I would never in a million years take my kids to see that movie. Way to go, mom and dad.

Totally agree, Martin. My kids aren't going anywhere near that movie for a solid decade.
I still don't know how I felt about the "IMAX experience." Once I'm "in" the movie, I lose complete awareness of the medium. The only time it came back to a conscious level was when there was a shot of a city from high up. Other times, I could have been watching it on a portable DVD player.
-
I haven't seen the new Batman but this is just a comment on the PG-13 wackiness. I saw Disturbia recently on cable. That was PG-13!
** SPOLIER ALERT **
That movie begins with a llloooonnnggg graphic sequence where a teenager's father gets killed in a horrific highway accident, and then culminates with a serial killer torturing the teenager's mother in his basement -- where you also get to see some of his other mummified victims. PG-13??!! That movie should be x-rated.
Payola -- cough-cough.
Edit - i just looked up this film and I found I'm not alone. The Christian Analysis of American Culture (CAP Ministry) also took offense --
"Offense to God (O)
God's name in sued in vain without the four letter expletive at least 19 times, all by adolescents who are paid to do so by adults. Take heed, filmmakers, of Deut. 5:11 and Luke 17:2."
Ew buoy. I'm an old man.
-
Those breathtaking helicopter shots (those must have been made specifically for IMAX, right?) are the only ones where I though, "wow, IMAX!". The rest of the time I was "just" watching the biggest screen I've ever watched a movie on. Which of course was awesome too.
The Watchmen trailer was pretty impressive on that screen too.
-
Totally agree, Martin. My kids aren't going anywhere near that movie for a solid decade.
fair enough...although, at that point they'll have no idea what the big deal was.
-
I would never in a million years take my kids to see that movie. Way to go, mom and dad.
Martin, this statement is absurd. In a million years your kids will be plenty old to see Bat-Man.
I expected more accuracy from you.

Fan-made new poster for The Dark Knight Returns

enticing, but not nearly as mouth-watering as the dark knight promo posters.
