Oh, I totally forgot about the doozers.  They rule.  Also, I know this is off-topic, but can I just say that redneck comedy sucks?

Doozers do rule. They are such good little workers. I'd like some for my desk... who do you have to call to make that sort of thing happen?

Rednecks? Muppets? Got you covered!

Poor Bert is stuck playing the washboard!

Down with redneck comedy and hooray for Muppets!

I've seen a lot of people giving Segel flack for bringing back the Muppets but I think it could be very good. He's also mentioned that he really wants Paul Williams to come back and help write the music, which would be fantastic.

I don't mind a cash in if it's done well, the problem is that 99.9% are awful. I think Segel's heart is in the right place with this though.  I haven't seen any of the recent Muppet films but they all sounded pretty bad.  I see this as a chance to make them awesome again, by someone who is a big fan.

Gravy, if one wanted to make a Muppet Movie, how would they do so without "cashing in on nostalgia"

The guy likes Muppets. I like Muppets. I get it.

The children I take care of's parent's have the "Sesame Street: Old School" DVDs sets. The other day, the three of us were watching, and this skit came on. I vaguely remembered it. We were all laughing and having a great time, but when the teeth started tearing the desk apart, Sadie, who is one-year old, started hysterically crying and screaming, and I couldn't get her to stop for 20 minutes. When I looked this up on youtube, the tag said that apparently a lot of children were scared by the teeth.

Also, it sounds like Don Knotts is doing the voice.

I am way too tired to find it on youtube, but my absolute favourite has always been the one where there are all these bunnies dancing around and then the monster comes in and bites all their heads off.

For some reason, in the early 90s, the christian television station 'round these parts used to show like eight episodes of the muppets in the middle of the night. My mom taped them every day and that was basically all the tv I ever watched until I turned about 6.

My first fully formed sentence was "Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Dudley Moore!" from (I guess) the episode..Dudley Moore was...on? I am told this freaked my parents out.

That is so awesome.

Although: The museum at which my girlfriend works as a docent will definitely be having a Muppets exhibit next year. Opening weekend happens to coincide with my birthday, so if you'll be in the Orlando area, look out for a 26 year old guy grinning like a fucking idiot. I've said it before and I'll say it again- The Muppet Movie, all time top 5.

You can't just throw that out without saying the name of the museum.

The Muppet Movie is one of those rare things from childhood that still holds up for me today. In fact, I probably enjoy it more now than I did when I was little.

Here's a link about that. It's a Smithsonian Institution exhibit traveling across the country. It's not coming towards me until 2010, but I'll be there.

I watched the Muppet Movie, Great Muppet Caper, and Muppets Take Manhattan recently and they all hold up for me.  All three are classics!

Great Muppet Caper was on loop when I was a kid.

Recent Muppet Movies blow.

They need to be reinvigorated the same way Batman, James Bond, and other tired franchises have been.

I think I've said this before, but a newish muppet movie that I adore is The Muppet Christmas Carol. It was made soon after Henson's death, and it's just wonderful...everything from the music to Micheal Caine as Scrooge.

The Muppets make absolutely no sense today.  They would only make sense as a snarky parody of their former selves.  Their former selves were already pretty wise-assy for ostensible children's entertainment, but wisecracks from felt things are no longer as cool as wisecracks from rudimentarily animated and minimally designed cartoon characters.  I think the only viable Muppet venture would have to be a straight-to-DVD and $2-per-download internet releases or something.  I don't think the next generation would really be on board with the Muppets showing them how to have a good time.  I also think that the world really doesn't need more Muppetness.  Muppets are like that kid that was kinda brilliant and kinda annoying that you used to hang out with in high school a lot, and then when you got to college you have fond memories, but then you run into him at a diner and are like "Ew buoy, don't need to go back to that place."

I agree.  I think the muppets should actually all be ultra-realistic puppet depictions of people with real-life, gritty urban problems.  The only element that should be kept from the original show is Snuffleupagus.

Sure, it's a show for little kids and little kids like Elmo better. It's probably the high voice, or the fact that he tells them he loves them on a regular basis.  Just a guess, but that could be more entertaining/popular with kids than Grover learning how to make baskets in Costa Rica.  It is, not to be too repetitive, a show for children.

Even if Elmo is the flagship star of Sesame Street now, as long as the Muppets live on in the hearts of kids, I'm glad.

I love it too. I know it's post-Henson and most people bash all the Muppet stuff after his death but it's a classic Christmas movie that doesn't get the praise it deserves.

There's some Elmo bashing going on, but ZOE is by far my least favorite new muppet. At least Elmo's been around since I was really small. Zoe carries no familiarity and a laugh that makes my teeth itch.

The "tuff" Sesame Street is lame.  But I think the M.O.P. song video is great, because of how well it was edited and the footage they chose to use.  Ernie popping up from behind that chair?

But I digress, and will go back to a great REAL  Muppet Show clip.  Best Muppet Show song ever.  Shel  Silverstein cover too..

This is exactly why I hated every second of that musical Avenue Q.  Whoa, there might be a gay subtext on between Bert & Ernie?  There's porn on the internet?  Gary Coleman is no longer famous?  Who the fuck knew?

Jim Henson Co. Ponders Mature Puppet Fare In ‘The Happytime Murders’

http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2008/10/15/jim-henson-co-ponders-mature-muppet-fare-in-the-happytime-murders/

Quote
Written by Todd Berger and Dee Austin Robertson, “Happytime” takes place in a world where humans and puppets co-exist. But in this world, being made of felt and possessing a set of googly-eyes makes you a second-class citizen. Things turn ugly when, one by one, the puppet cast of television’s “The Happytime Gang” begin turning up dead. It falls to a disgraced LAPD detective-turned-private-eye puppet to take on the case — and yes, in noir fashion, he has personal demons and a drinking problem to overcome.
