Title: Recommend other FMU shows
Post by: moonshake on July 22, 2008, 09:21:12 AM
The most convenient time for me to listen to shows is at work during the day. But since they block all MP3 and Real media links, I had to download the shows to my "zune" player to be able to listen at work. Because of this added hassle, the only shows I listened to for years with regularity were TBSOW and 7SD.

I've recently discovered WFMU's Pop-up MP3 Player which, to my delight, is not blocked. Since this discovery I've been listening to and really enjoying Evan "Funk" Davies' and Terre T's most recent shows. Can you recommend other shows that I might like?

If you like those shows, I'd suggest Downtown Soulville with Mr. Finewine, and Small Change's show.  I also like Sinner's Crossroads, Liz Berg's Show, Benjamen Walker's Theory of Everything, and sometimes Bronwyn & Kelly.

Wow, I was going to start a similar thread.

Ken's show plays the kooky music.  I also like Diane's Kamikaze Fun Machine* and Three Chord Monte.

I'm always discovering great new shows, though.

I haven't listened to Communication Breakdown or Aerial View since becoming a fan of the Best Show, but if you want some FMU talk show deep cuts, that's where you'd go.

* Which, Grote, is the show that I misremembered as being on Fridays.

Thanks! I used to listen to Killing time with Bronwyn C but haven't listened to her show much lately. I do prefer shows that play music for listening to at work. Talk/call-in shows are really distracting and I can't work while listening to them, but I make exceptions for TBSOW and 7SD.

I think Evan Funk Davies' show is quickly taking 7SD's place as my second favorite show on FMU. The variety is so refreshing and the songs are all fun.

I've tried listening to Ken's show a bunch of times but I find myself skipping through many of the songs. It just doesn't do it for me. I do try and listen to Michael Goodstein's Choking on Cufflinks whenever he does one. That's a kooky show that I enjoy. I recommend it.

Funk and Terre T are both real good. And yes, if you like them you should like the terrific 3 Chord Monte.

I used to listen to Music to Spazz By regularly until last year.  Upbeat goofy host and lots of old-timey  garage rock.

CBC, Music To Spazz By, Give the Drummer Some, Downtown Soulville, Sinners Crossroads, Choking on Cufflinks, Gaylord Fields, Fools Paradise, Trouble (even though she's irritating.  It's mellow-ish stuff for work), Debbie Does WFMU (new), Hatch (sometimes)

Never miss a fill-in:  Todd-o-Phoinc Todd, Ira, Monica

Fabio's show is really great, if you're into that sort of thing.

My favorite FMU DJ of all time was Doug Mosurock.

For chatter: the Dusty Show, Bronwyn, Jones & X-Ray (their banter is hilarious, imo)
For tunes: Pseu Braun, Terre T., Bill Kelly, Rex, Downtown Soulville, Sinner's Crossroads

Debbie D is great. Hope I hear her more.

I pretty much listen to FMU from the time I get home from work until sleep, and all weekend and cannot name a show I will turn off with the exception of Bob Brainen (the music stinks, and his delivery will put you in a coma)

Is she any relation to Debbie the Dominatrix?

And he hangs up on fellow WFMU DJs. No wonder Ken stuck him with a crap time slot.

I don't really like the interview parts so much, but other than that, Michael Shelley's show is pretty good.
