Could this rise to the level of sticker material for the next marathon?
-
I'm thinking this could be a pamphlet that can be taken door to door to spread the gospel of the Best Show.
-
Tom's not wrong though. I've been getting a lot more done since I started listening ... and none of it is murder.

never sticker material, dave. more like button material.
yeah...it has that "button feel" to me.

It would be an interesting sociological study to track Tom's influence in the human developmental stages. Here I propose a model using Erik Erikson's stages.
Tom's Role: The Hamster Dance
School-Age Child (7-10 Years)
Stage: Industry vs Inferiority
Description: Tries to develop a sense of self-worth by refining skills.
Case Study: August
Tom's Role: Puberty's Chaperon
Adolescent (10-17 Years)
Stage: Identity vs Role Confusion
Description: Tries integrating many roles (child, sibling, student, athlete, worker) into a self-image under role model and peer pressure.
Case Study: Petey
Tom's Role: I am ALL your life coaches
Young Adulthood (18-40 years)
Stage: Intimacy vs Isolation
Description: Body and ego must be masters of organ modes and of the other nuclear conflicts in order to face the fear of ego loss in situations which call for self-abandon. The avoidance of these experiences leads to openness and self-absorption.
Case Study: Jeremy aka James
Tom's Role: Mid-Life Crisis Hotline Operator
Middle-Age Adult (40-65 Years)
Stage: Generativity vs Stagnation
Description: Seeks satisfaction through productivity in career, family, and civic interests.
Case Study: DFK **only because on the dawn of your 50th b-day, Tom gave great advice to get out there and write those musicologies!
Tom's Role: Shoppin for a Coffin
Older Adult (65+)
Stage: Integrity vs Despair
Description: Reviews life accomplishments, deals with loss and preparation for death
Case Study: The Gorch

I'd better buy some reading glasses and a pipe for this one.
I love posts like this; where some real work was put into it.
-
beautiful

DFK: just re-listened. hilarious. (silence when Dr. hangs up then) . . . . . . . ."hey Tom". hahaha.
"I'll just burn up the message board". power caller indeed!
-
that's awesome, tenspeed.
-
I wanted to call last night, and give this as the reason why Tom should stay...
Somewhere out there, there is another August getting swirlied by a Troy Dersham. This why Tom has to stay. Without Puberty's Chaperone, what will he, or she, do?
-
tenspeed: that list is good shit. you're good shit.

Dave, I want you to be my lifecoach, you sounds like a well adjusted, pleasant, sensible guy.

That's nice, but I wound up HERE. So, careful what you wish for.

At least you survived the FOTCHAN era. That says something.

This is genius, but needs a rewrite to include the role as "Camp Counselor" for the FOTchan crew.

"Next time we go rafting ... You drive the bus" ~ Joe Latruglio, Wet Hot American Summer ... if Tom Scharpling had played Victor.
