Title: Powercaller Spike?
Post by: mr. wolfsheim on July 30, 2008, 11:57:36 PM
So, in the first episode of the new regime, Spike became a supercaller, but then all supercallers were stripped of their status that same evening.

Dave, Erica and Paycheck all came back as powercallers, and now Laurie is one as well (congratulations). But there is no mention of Spike in this group.

So, are the Powercallers a quartet or a quintet?

Spike seems immune to the allure of something of this nature, I suspect.  It's a complete mystery to me what Spike actually cares about, apart from doowop and maybe one or two other things.

Spike would never be interested in joining such a group - after all, there are both under 25s AND women.

Spike is still doing penance for the "Where's Sexy Sadie?" Years.

i say Spike is back in powercaller status on the downlow; its an unspoken thing.

however, neil has drawn the original powercallers (Dave, Paycheck, and Erika), i would like to seer Laurie (and Spike) in Neil's image.

Spike exists as a singularity in the Best Show universe (in the northernmost quadrant) and forever shall remain as such.

Spike is one of my favorite callers, and whoever put up the picture of Cheswick from One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest in the thread about how you picture callers - you are a genius. That is exactly how I always pictured him.

something that patton oswalt and i have in common* is that we're both big fans of spike. all due respect to erika, dave, laurie, and paycheque, but spike is the superpowercaller of my heart.

*we also have a slow metabolism coupled with a passionate love for food in common. that isn't as noteworthy, though.

This begs the question... if you did have the legion of powercallers at your disposal, what tasks would you assign them?

spike is the superpowercaller of my heart.

mine too.

all week i couldn't stop thinking about how fascinating this gentleman is. i love his unfunny pet names for celebrities he despises (although "stinky/sleepy la beef" had me laughing pretty good.) i love that he has no detectable sense of humor and will, in all sincerity, repeatedly answer a very flat "no" to tom's increasingly ridiculous questions. i love how he never appears annoyed at these questions - no matter how humiliating or how many references to hot plates/parole officers they contain. i love that whenever tom has asked him to make an off show appearance, either via the phone or in person, he's always busy and/or needs to check his calendar. i love that he's possibly the only being on earth who enjoys the chucky movies. i love his weird laugh.

i love spike (i do.)

I've heard him chuckle away from the phone a couple of times (including this week when he called in during the topic), so I think he may just be doing a really good job of disguising his amusement. After all, he wouldn't listen every week if he didn't find the show funny.

and how amazing was that to hear spike contributing to that topic? and calling in well after 8:17pm too!

but the guy is a total enigma. i wouldn't be surprised in the least to learn he didn't find the show funny at all and listened for reasons you and i can't even fathom.

he's the best.

Easily the most fascinating part of the show.  Also the most up and down--when it tanks, blam-o, but when that "I don't know what" is there, it's funnier/more surreal than anything I can imagine.

If this is an elaborate act, the guy's good.  Even that weird scrolling "I should be king of the supercallers" message...that's absolutely sublime.

I hope I never, ever see Spike's visage in reality (or a representation of reality on the interwebs).

If he ain't a super/powercaller, he darn well should be.

Ike

Spike works for the government. I'm afraid to imagine how many people he knows about, let alone what he might know about them. Or maybe he just keeps his love of rockabilly locked in the dungeon.

spike might be thee only super/power caller that is also in the hall of shame!  if thats not an accomplishment of epic proportions i dont know what is.

am i mistaken but wasn't officer tom a super caller at one point.  wasn't also paychecks friend in toronto (gordy?) a super caller also?

No and no. They're both in the FOT Hall of Fame, though. And I don't think Gord and Paycheck know each other.

I actually meant Stinky LeBeef. I know Sleepy LeBeef is a singer. I had no idea who Stinky LeBeef was until I read about his car accident.

My stomach hurt so much from laughing at this:

Tom announces that after explaining their problem, "I want everyone to say "aaaarrrrghhhhh, THE LITTLE THINGS!""

Two minutes later---

Tom: Alright, let's hear you say it.
Spike: I WANT THESE CHANNELS OFF MY SYSTEM... NOW.
Tom: Well no, that's not what we were doing. You gotta go "aarrrghhh, the little things!".
Spike: The little things in life... SSSSUCK.

I am still a little behind; I love it a few weeks back when Spike was going to visit friends and Tom asked "Do these people KNOW they're your friends."

I read in the employment section of the NYT that Spike and Mike's Day Camp was laying off dozens of their camp counselors now that summer is over.   I mean, what do they expect, it's only seasonal work.

Nightline is also doing an expose on them.  Apparently the City Council has been cracking down on them because they congregate on corners and wait to be picked up by construction agencies and contractors.  I admit it's quite unsavory, but since they drove the hookers out of times square it's only natural that the 2nd oldest profession--day-laboring-- would take its place.

spike is rapidly losing me as member of his fan club. the first strike was calling sarah palin's husband unemployed. he's a fisherman and a stay-at-home dad. the second was referring to sarah palin as a housewife. she is the opposite of a housewife, spike! she returned to work three days after giving birth!

he's putting me in a position of defending the palins, which is the last thing on earth i want to do. please continue to hate her, but hate her for the right reasons, like her backwards policies and her bald-faced lies, just for starters. but can we leave her family out of this? like we would if she were a male? that would be aces!

C'mon. Spike's views on women are profoundly fucked up, but it's nothing new. The same goes for his mishandling of facts about famous people.

He's been making slanderous statements about Hillary Clinton for the past year, hating her for the wrong reasons as well. While I don't agree with him, I don't think we're going to change his mind about that kind of stuff. Just roll with it. Spike is Spike is Spike.
