Title: F Yeah Fest

http://www.fyeahfest.com/

I'm going to try to be in Los Angeles for this the weekend of August 29-31 (anybody else planning on going?), but I have never listened to many of these bands, so I'm looking for some pre-festival FOT direction on who I definitely need to see.

Line-up:

NO AGE
NEGATIVE APROACH
GLASS CANDY
MATT AND KIM
TWO GALLANTS
FUCKED UP
LADYHAWK
CRYSTAL ANTLERS
DAVID VANDERVELDE
SILVERGHOST
BEST FWENDS
HIGH PLACES
WAR TAPES
MIKA MIKO
PAST LIVES
UNDERGROUND RAILROAD TO CANDYLAND
MONOTONIX
DAVID DONDERO
ABE VIGODA
DUBLAB SOUNDSYSTEM
THE STRANGE BOYS
MANNEQUIN MEN
FRANK FAIRFIELD
GRAHAM FOREST
NODZZZ
60 WATT KID
KYLE KINANE

There are also separate F Yeah shows going on this weekend featuring the likes of THE MELVINS, HOT WATER MUSIC, POLVO and DAN DEACON.

HOly shit!  Polvo!!  In my 'hood!!

I probably won't go to this thing but it basically happens all around my apt., so maybe if you see some dude with sideburns and a Scharpling Landscaping t-shirt skulking around and resenting all the drunk, coked up children in the street, that's me.

You have to see Crystal Antlers.  No Age is the most famous, and I've heard like one song.  I have no opinion about them at all.  I've also seen Mika Miko and they're pretty run-of-the-mill noise punk by feminists.  Their secret is that they're all kinda gnarly looking and punker-than-thou, but there's one member who's actually attractive.  I think Glass Candy is some electro-damage nonsense, but I'm not sure.  Abe Vigoda is pretty good.  LIke solid indie rock, I thought.  My friend likes Ladyhawk but I don't know them.  Best Fwends is like some cutesy post-ween synth irony thing (name alone = red flags, although a friend of mine said I'd like them because I'm in a post-ween synth irony band myself).

Seriously, even though they have the ultimate in trendy cliche band names, Crystal Antlers is one of the best live shows i've seen in a very long time.

im going to be at this.  i just happen to be returning from the radiohead show in santa barbara that weekend.  im going to see whoever is in front of me when i decide to stop.

the last time i was able to go to f*** yeah fest was 3 or 4 years ago.  im looking forward to being there.  unfortunately, i have no opinion on who you should check out.  but do the homework and spend a few hours on myspace looking up these bands.

its what i do when the occasion calls for it.

I've become seriously addicted to 'Nouns' by No Age in the past month or 2. Somehow, I don't know how, there are a few annoyingly-catchy songs on it. Of the rest of them, I only know and like High Places and The Strange Boys.

it'd be cool to see other FOTs at this...anybody going?  or even a LA FOT meetup outside of this.

(just throwing it out there)

I'm definitely going to the Polvo/Trans Am show; not sure about the others.  See youse guys there.

(And John Junk, way to answer my e-mail.  Jerk.)

For the sake of clarification, I look nothing like Jason Grote, but I do look like his current avatar.

I have a ticket for Saturday. Look for a tall, skinny guy with a prominent chin.

I'm a chronic smartypants so I'm taking this question seriously....

it used to outright be called F*** Yeah Fest and only seemed to exist via a myspace page; since then, developments have been made.

Man, the drummer from Trans Am really looks like Jim Osterberg, doesn't he?

Ash Bowie kinda  looks like Scott Bakula trying to channel Jimi Hendrix.
