This was a stronger jolt than my morning coffee. Julia Child was a OSS spy for the US in WWII. That's amazing.
Even better was the sidenote halfway through the article that revealed that Stuart Copeland's father was also under CIA employ.

Sterling Hayden, too. That's not so much of a surprise - that guy was the coolest.
-
When are they going to release the Chuck Barris files?
-
Can you imagine Sterling Heydon trying to be inconspicuous?
He even LOOKED like a G Man. That's like sending commercial airliner to fly spy missions. That guy reminds me of a terrifying high school principal.

no kidding

It's been public knowledge for years that Julia Child was in the OSS. Why is this news?
-
its news because im only 25, having created my own bubble and it filled with things that revolve around me.
but mostly because im 25.

This has been public knowledge? Where the hell have I been? You mean everyone knew that if there was something The Child wanted to know, she'd get it out of you one way or another?

There was some documentary about her years ago that reported she worked for the OSS
in Paris. I don't think it came right out and said she'd been a spy, but, come on, the OSS in Paris?
-
I thought OSS was the Office of Savory Snacks?

This is great news because not only do I do a pretty good Julia Child impersonation, but I also work with microfilm, so later when my boss leaves I can reenact her role as a spy!
All I need is someone to play Stuart Copeland...

I spent 10 minutes trying to come up with a good headline for this story today and the best I could come up with was "Mastering the art of American spying."
-
I would love to hear Julia Child instruct an audience how to dispose of an SS officer you've seduced and garroted in 30 minutes or less.
"Make sure you've washed your hands first..."

The fact that Stewart Copeland's dad was in the CIA has been out there for years, too.
Any other interesting nuggets? I didn't know that about Julia Child, but I loved learning that. I love espionage.
